Flameres15ParticipantI have been reading about the continuous growth of Giannis Antetokounmpo, now listed at 6’11" 217lbs and a 7’4" wingspan. These numbers reminded me of Anthony Davis, who plays a completely different position as a big man. We know Davis played guard when he was shorter, and moved to the big man position when he hit his growth spurt. I want to know, does anyone here think Antetokounmpo could make the transition to a big man? He would play much like Davis did in college at UK, until he bulks up. Giannis has 2 shot blocking big men in John Henson and Larry Sanders that could teach him how to efficiently block shots, and Henson, Ersan Ilyasova, and Zaza Pachulia would help Giannis on offense. Anyone have any other thoughts on this subject? Thanks.
Also, would this affect how the Bucks draft?

MikezParticipantOr he could be a freak at the 2/3 position

Buckets21ParticipantGiannis is a 3, he’s not a 2 and he never will be. Again it is nitpicking, but I’ve just seen something along those lines posted a few times recently and I don’t know where it’s coming from.

MopgrassParticipantProbably the fact they often played him at the 2.

Buckets21ParticipantBy often played him at the 2 do you mean he played at the 2 for 1% of the time? If so then you should look up the word often.

He played 67% of the time at the 3 and 31% of the time at the 4

Anton123ParticipantIf I were the Bucks – I’d try really hard to get Jabari Parker. Both he and Giannis can play both forward positions and I think will work out really well defensively (Giannis will simply take the better forward most of the time, unless it’s a big-bodied forward like Randolph, who Jabari could slow down with his 250 lb. frame).
Offensively they wouldn’t get into each other’s way at all since they’ve got completely different offensive games.
I would watch the Bucks just to see that forward duo.

Memphis MadnessParticipantNah, I like Exum. Put him at guard and let him handle the ball. Put Brandon Knight off the ball to shoot 3’s.
A front line of Giannis, Henson, and Larry Sanders would be really long and athletic.
If Jabari gets picked at 1, then Milwaukee should swap picks with Philly. Philly takes Wiggins at 2. Exum goes to Milwaukee at 3.
The rest of the deal might be something like Bucks send the second pick and OJ Mayo to the Sixers for 3, 32, 39, Thad Young, Elliott Williams, and cash.

Moon RiverParticipantI like Exum in Milwaukee to Memphis and your deal is reasonable, but I don’t think Exum wants to be in Milwaukee. I think it would be a mistake for the Bucks to take Exum because he will bolt the first chance he gets. He clearly wants to be in a large market and places like Milwaukee and Utah don’t interest him.

Memphis MadnessParticipantExum wants to play in the same places as Wiggins, Embiid, and all those other guys.
Jabari wants to play in Milwaukee, but why would you draft a guy that wants to play in MILWAUKEE???

WhodunitParticipantAnthony Davis in his one year college became a transformative player. Because he grew up with a guards mindset and body and was able to ADAPT according to his coaches/teams needs of being a Defensive minded center. Thats a humongous change for a player to make. Otherwise he could have been another Austin Daye if he choose to force the issue that "No, im gonna be a wing and thats it, thats whats best for me.Period". But he didn’t he adapted and provided the team with what it was lacking. I cant tell you how rare that is.
Giannis grew up an athletic slasher with nowhere near the level of guard skill that Davis had in high school and then built upon in college. So its hard, but not impossible, picturing Giannis suddenly accepting and thriving in the role of a big man when he never grew up with that mindset or was pushed in that direction by his developers. Maybe he could be an athletic Serge Ibaka if he got moved to the 4.
But i wouldn’t want to pigeonhole a talent like that into being a big man only. Let him develop all facets of his game as he is still very young and raw and then see where he fits. By comparison, i’d say Davis is closer to his peak potential than Giannis. We know more or less what to expect of Davis in the future and its undeniable greatness. Giannis is still a work in progress who might be best served to play a wing, or athletic big or even center. To early to tell, let him keep growing before you decide.

Moon RiverParticipantIn his interview today, Parker said that Milwaukee said they wanted him and that impressed Parker when he visited. Plus he grew up about two hours away from Milwaukee, so that doesn’t hurt either.
Don’t trade the pick Milwaukee and take Wiggins or Parker!

HitsterParticipantGiannis’s long term position depends on so many factors including who the Bucks draft tomorrow night. Personally I see him as a SF long term able to create mismatches and use his skill as a point forward. He has the potential to play some PF in a stretch PF type role in due course if needs be.
