Joel Embiid and Sam Hinkie

 Joel Embiid is the most talked about prospect in the 2014 Draft process. Alot of people seem to believe strongly he will go no further than 3rd overall. I doubt Hinkie selects him. 

Sam Hinkie is not "a" analytics guy, he is "the" analytics guy in the sports industry. He advised NFL managers on draft decisions in the past, and he also lectured at Harvard and Stanford. The best way to explain Sams insatiable infatuation with analytical analysis.. Hinkie likey numbers.

He definitely seems like the type of guy who uses statistical breakdowns to decide how to brush his teeth or which route to walk his dog. Im obviously exagurating but you get the point, he strongly believes in stats  more then he believes in his gut. His eyes and his heart may have given him a gut feeling to draft Embiid yet he will crunch the numbers on Joel Embiid and I dont think they will work in his favor.

Embiid has a stress fracture in his foot, maybe its just me but when I hear stress fracture I feel like that is a repetitive injury for big men. I will expect to watch Embiid thinking when will his foot give in and break same way I watched Bynum, Yao, and Oden. Maybe thats just because of Yao and Odens injury plagued career with tons of stress fractures that left a negative thought lingering. Hinkie will do a study on this and see if he can spot any similarities.

Philly has already selected one player already considered risky due to a torn ACL. Noel does not have injury issues in the past and his tear was obviously just a bad landing. I just dont see Hinkie a stats guy using the franchises rebuild ticket to grab a second player at the same position with above average injury risk.
