Jayhawks2011ParticipantYou look at their roster and there key pieces going forward are a scoring PG in Irving, a scoring ball dominant SG in Dion Waiters and an undersized PF in Bennett with Thompson playing the 4 and 5 putting up decent numbers with decent. You look at that team and I don’t really see how Parker fits in. He will add another poor defender to the Cavs on a team that is not looking for a dominant scorer. Also, if you put him on the court with Bennett they will have an extremely hard time to guard the three and four without a big time rim protector. I feel they will have a hard time fitting in Parker with their current squad.
Wiggins to me is the easy choice over Parker. He will give the team athletisicm on the wing and more importantly defense. Andrew should be able to average 2 steals and blocks per game for a majority of his career and gives them more of a slasher on the wing that can still spot up and shoot.
If the Cavs take Parker I think it will be a large mistake, not because I dont think he will be a good player but his abilities are don’t compliment the Cavs core young players as much as Wiggins will.

bmac697ParticipantIf Anthony leaves New York could you see a shump yet chandler for waiters Thompson veregio something along those lines. Both guys would add the defence the cavs would need and gets rid of problem with 3 ball dominant players. If Cleveland goes Parker then waiters perfect 6 th man. Hopefully we see some improvement in Bennett, apparently he’s in better shape.

WITNESS2014ParticipantIf they take Parker they should do something with Waiters and get a sg who is a good defender, can shoot the 3, and doesnt need the ball to be effective. For example Aaron Afflalo
If they take Wiggins he is already a better fit with Irving and Waiters. They still have to do something about their frontcourt though because Hawes and Thompson isn’t an ideal combo for the future, if you want to contend anyways.
Basically they need to make changes at the sg position if they get Parker, Wiggins fits the Cavs RIGHT NOW better. The frontcourt needs help either way though.

Pistol Pete. The PelicanParticipantSupposedly Waiters is on the block. The rumor last week was they’ll try to move him during the draft, and the rumor today was that the Hawks are interested in Waiters, Thompson, and Varejao. (Not all together as a package, but all of the players.) All who are on the block. I know everyone keeps mentioning Anthony Bennett, and yes he was the number 1 pick, but to the new regime that doesn’t mean a thing.
Jabari Parker in my opinion will be the best player from this draft, and you don’t pass up the best player especially when it’s at a position of need. He has good fundamental principles, he can score from everywhere on the floor, and he will be able to play off the ball, yes that is part of his versatility. I also don’t think he will be as bad on defense as everyone is saying he will be. He’s more athletic than he’s giving credit for and he started at center for Duke. We have to look at it like this, just because some of these players are big enough in size don’t mean they can bang and play in the post for full games on defense. That’s why Lebron, and Carmelo are small forwards, when both of them have had to guard legit post scorers for a long time they got tired quickly and had problems. (Brief example, Lebron trying to gaurd David West in game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals) Also coach David Blatt who played at princeton and is a great offensive coach will run a system based on ball movement with a euroleague Spurs style system. Jabari Parker and Kyrie Irving both being Coach K players and intelligent players in general will be able to adapt their game to the system, which they will still get plenty of opportunities to run and they can isolate when they need to. Something they both do well.
I really don’t think you can make this statement about Jabari and the Cavs until we see the moves they make, because we know the moves are coming, but I still think Jabari will fit with the team no matter what anyway.
Also Anthony Bennett had a 7’1" wingspan 2 years ago, it could have grown since then, he also very athletic, I think if he comes in, in shape this year he will be able to guard that 4 position with his strength, with a David West, Elton Brand style of one on one defense.

tidhoParticipantCan Jabari defend NBA SFs? If not, he doesn’t play a position of need for the Cavaliers.
….and of course to be fair, it is questionable if he’s the best prospect available in this draft.

tidhoParticipantWhy on Earth wouldn’t they?
He’s a great teammate, a plus defender, doesn’t need the ball to be effective on the offensive end, can play the 4 and the 5, and has a team friendly contract.
