Jayhawks2011ParticipantWith the Embiid injury I think this makes it a very interesting draft for the C’s. I think that Embiid will fall, however I do not see him going past the C’s at 6. Then I think the C’s will go into full rebuild mode and move Rondo to the Kings for B-Mac and the 8th pick.
6th pick–Embiid, take a huge risk, but you are in a full rebuild mode and can wait, giant risk with upside.
8th pick–Whoever falls from (Smart, Gordon, Vonleh, Randle). The C’s probably hope it is Smart ot replace Rondo who was traded.
Free Agency–Popular belief is that they will go after Hayward, who you would have to outbid the Jazz for.
Best Case for the Celtics, their rotation going forward with all the Nets picks in the future look bright.
Smart, Mclemore, Hayward, Sullinger, Embiid (Olynyk, Bradley, Nets future picks)
Anyways, what would you guys do if you were Boston.

FearTheStacheParticipantI like that. Maybe add in the Kings 2015 pick in that trade? Not sure if they’ll spend in free agency. With prospects like Embiid and Smart, they shouldn’t look to spend and compete now. Look how that turned out for Detroit. Maybe they save their money and wait for a free agent in 2015? Kevin Love?

Bostoncelticsforlife9ParticipantI love it for me that is the best casinerio the only thing i would change is not resigning avery bradley and maybe either drafting young or signing anthony morrow. We don’t really want to rely on Mclemore to break out or anything so that way we have some back up. We resign hump. Trade Bass for 2 2nd rounders in this year. Draft Damien Inglis.
Smart/Pressey
Mclemore/Young or Morrow
Hayward/ Wallace/Inglis
Sully/Olynyk/Hump
Embiid/Faverani/ Hump

mike_r232ParticipantThis is exactly what I hope happens. Option 1 for them is to try to get Love and then maybe another stud to make a big 3 (very Ainge). But, if Love gets traded to the Warriors and Embiid is there?… you have to take him! I actually have the same Rondo trade in mind (man… I think you read my mind). Ben Mac, the 8th pick, and a future 1st would be a good haul for the Celtics. And don’t forget about the 17th pick. Could pickup a decent talent there as well (Payton, Lavine, Hood, Young, etc). Embiid’s injury actually gives them a better chance at a higher pick next year. Going to be an interesting offseason for the C’s!

capecodderParticipantIf Embiid is there at 6, take him….without a Love type trade, not enough to compete this yeat anyhow….six months = December…take Payton at 17 if Rondo is traded….maybe take him anyhow
…As for Rondo for BMac and #8 from the Kings….not enough…..the C’s own two future very protected #2s from the Kings….remove the protection and the deal makes more sense
As much as I like Love….6 and 17 and Olinyk and another first is too much

The GoatParticipantId draft Embiid at 6, then draft whoever is left out of Payton, Ennis and Napier at 17 (lets say its Payton).
Then Id trade Rondo to Orlando for Afflalo, Harless and Nicholson, which works in the ESPN trade machine http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=lptgjy3
The lineup would look like this –
Payton Afflalo Green Sullinger Embiid
Pressey Bradley Harkless Nicholson Olynyk
Id say Orlando is happy to make the deal, starting Rondo, Oladipo, Harris, Vonleh (#4) and Vucevic.

What The DevilParticipantIsn’t this the last year of Rondo’s deal? Why would the Kings trade a high draft pick/McLemore for a one year rental of Rondo?

FearTheStacheParticipantI see what you’re saying, but at the same time, they are willing to do the same thing with Love. Desperate for another all star player, I don’t think they’d do it much different for rondo

What The DevilParticipantI can’t quite remember the details for the Love trade. I thought it was just the 8th pick and Ben wasn’t included? I could be completely wrong so I apologize if I am.

natevalParticipantDream situation for me as a Celtics fan is Embiid falls to us, we trade Rondo in some sort of deal to Sac or Lakers for the 7th or 8th pick. We draft Smart there and Kyle Anderson at 17

omphalosParticipantMy dream scenario is we take Embiid at 6, keep Rondo for a reasonable price, sign Hayward in FA, let Bradley go and take Young/Lavine/Harris/Stauskas (one of them will fall). Yes we go without Embiid for a bit of the season, but this team could make playoffs and Rondo needs to be kept around as a steadying force for the young players.

ExumInfernoParticipantThe Celtics should either try to win now, which means trading for K Love or someone similar, or look to the future which means moving Rondo.
If Embiid is there at pick 6 they have to take him.
Then trading away Rondo for a pick certainly works. Lakers, Kings, both could be options.
Hayward is restricted so too difficult to get him. But Celtics could wait a year and see what unrestricted free agents are around in a year from now, and adjust their salaries to target that.
The Celtics could combine a lot of ideas in one trade. Rondo for just the Lakers pick would clear salary. Or Rondo, Green G Wallace to the Kings for R Gay, D Williams and T Outlaw and this year’s pick would give Boston salaries that only have one more year to go.
Less than a week and everyone will know which path the Celtics are on, reload or rebuild.
