OhCanada-ParticipantWith confirmation of the recent injury I think Joel Embiid will be picked selected 6th overall in this years draft. He wont be out for his full rookie season like Noel yet I make this comparison because I believe whichever team selects him will go for a full fledged tank this year.
At 6 he would currently be selected by Boston although they have been offering the pick to Minnesota. I think whether Boston keeps it or trades it he falls no furrher than 6th.
If Boston keeps the pick I feel like they are committing to a rebuild and will also trade Rondo. They could be like Philly last year who traded Jrue Holiday then tanked to a top 3 pick.
If Minni gets the 6th and 17th that would give them the 6th, 13th, and 17th. Alot of options in such a deep draft. Drafting Embiid would give them alot of talent going forward and they wouldnt mind sitting him out to help the tank. At 13 they could select BPA like Philly last year with MCW. Then at 17th they could go BPA or International with Nurkic or Capela.
Utah is also an option but I think they would want to start winning games now. They have a hungry fan base since Sloan left.

Jester87ParticipantPeople are freaking out about this. We simply don’t know enough yet. Foot injury is just too vague. It might be a simple fracture, which takes a month to recover. It might be something worse. But until we know something more there’s no way we can tell how this is going to affect his stock.

220ParticipantI agree people are freaking out about this, but the main issue is Embiid already had injury issues so this foot injury could be what sinks his value.

Jester87ParticipantHonestly I don’t think Nba decision makers do their job relying on such a simplistic thought process. I mean, they have those prospects tested with accurate medical examinations. And even if a prospect has injury issues, it’s not like he’s going to sink for a totally unrelated injury, at least not without having carefully evaluated how serious the injury is, if it’s something that might recur and so on. Let’s say Embiid broke his foot because something really heavy fell on it, how can that affect his draft stock if his back tested well? And by the way, there’s really a lot of crap being thrown out in the days before the draft it’s really impossible for us, not having reliable sources to understand what’s going on. Of course we don’t really know how his back tested, what kind of injury is this and all that stuff. We don’t know if his agent, or the Cavs or another team drafting with a lower pick is playing some kind of game.

tuck243ParticipantAlthough I’m not sold even if Embiid was healthy that he would come right in and dominate, I still don’t see how a ‘foot’ injury is an issue. Embiid is still 3-4 years away from actually being depended on, so this foot injury (if it’s just a broken foot) isn’t that big of an issue if you had him #1 on your big board. It’s not an ankle injury, it’s not a knee injury, it’s not the back injury… I can see how there will be red flags on him, but taking him any lower than 5 to the Jazz is comical…
There are only 2 lotto players in this draft that I am certain will be legit starters in the league. That’s Wiggins and Parker. Next tier would be Randle… Then after that would be Embiid and Smart. The rest are all big question marks IMO….

Jester87ParticipantWell, stress fracture, now this does sound concerning, though I’m not a doctor and I don’t know much. Let’s see what happens.
