When you have the best player in the world, you pay Lebron, KD there 20 million because they are generation players that are significant difference makers. The young max types like Paul George, Blake Griffin offer decent value as there years of service don’t allow them to be 20 million yet and they can be had for 15 million. The problem with The Heat to overcome western powerhouses like The Spurs, Thunder, Clippers and Rockets and possibly the East challengers Pacers and Bulls providing that they have healthy Rosé, Mirotic and use there cap space and two first rounders efficiently will be Wade and Bosh.

They are both 20 million players but Bosh has been relegated to putting up similar numbers to MarqueefMorris (3milllion), Ibaka (12 million), Duncan (10 million). Dwayne Wade is declining rapidly and has even worse comparables with Stevenson (soon to be 8-10 million) Ginolbi (7 million), perhaps even Gerald Green will outplay 2015 Wade at (3.5 million).

The Big 3 has been worth every penny to Mickey Arison in the 4 NBA finals and the increased franchise value and revenue they bring. The problem is all 3 are 11 year max players and Bosh and Wade can no longer make 20 million if The Heat have any chance to beat The West. Wade lacks the defence and 3 point shooting to be an effective matchup against The Spurs as there offence will find the weak link every possession and the lack of 3 point shooting effect spacing.

didn’t quite get the first paragraph, but a valid point in the last two. this isn’t so much about building a team as about rebuilding, and knowing when guys are ‘done’.

It’s happened so many times. Boston were done for years but kept coming back- and then got saved by a great trade by Ainge with the suckers from Brooklyn. Detroit recycled through Allen Iverson, Chris Webber, the ghost of Ben Wallace and Ben f’ing Gordon before they realised they were done.

San Antonio are almost an aberration to the rule because their system and Pop’s coaching+minute management have allowed their ‘big 3’ to stay strong over the years.

But in summary, YES- I agree- ‘Bron is worth the big contract, maybe Bosh, but Wade isn’t. The dilemma is that if they lose Wade and break ‘the big 3’ you might risk losing Bron or Wade. A total conundrum.

I’d look to lock down Bron, make a play for Melo, and then worry about about the future after that!
