im a big fan of this guy. I love his competitiveness. I noticed last year when the heat and pacers went at it in the finals and how he was one of the few guys who wouldnt get nervous or pick up their dribble early when lebron was on him. Then he turned the corner this year and became an all-star caliber guy with a bright future. He can gaurd all 3 perimter positions and is a willing passer albeit a ball stopper at times.

As a laker fan, he would be my primary target in free agency this summer ahead of guys like monroe, lowry, bledsoe etc… My question is what kind of money do you think he is worth and how highly do you rank him amongst the available free agents this summer? I would like to see the lakers offer him around 13 mill per and see if thats enough to lure him.

13 per is way too high for him no matter how high you are on him.

Not with Kobe Bryant on the roster. A ball dominant guy like Stephenson with Bryant is a horrid idea.

kobe is at a stage in his career where he should be looking to pass more which was evident in the 6 games he played last season where he was playing like a pg. Stephenson can play the point and bring it up. No reason they cant fit together.

money gets driven up when mulitple teams are bidding for a guy. I like the fact he is getting better every year and plays both ends which is key to me. this past season, eric gordon, roy hibbert, luol deng, emeka okafor, carlos boozer, rudy gay etc… all made more then 14 mill. ANd dont even get me started on the 22 mill joe johnson pulled in. What you ideally want to pay someone and what they will demand on the open market in a competive league where the team salary caps are expected to be at an all time high are two different things.

Look how it worked out for those players. Not when steph only get 9 a year, and ends up getting 13 on the last year. I’m sorry? And what is Lance demanding when his stock has dropped with all his character and team issues.

how has it worked out for those players? Great, they are making tons. Not sure what you mean.

He is young and the character issues are overblown. curry not being one of the top 50 paid players doesnt mean teams are gonna get to sign guys for cheap just becasue he is an example of someone underpaid.

But steph is at worst a top 25 player….and you’re argument is?

my argument is written out. Tons of guys make more moeny then they are worth becasue teams battle for their signing and the price is driven up. Curry being underpaid doesnt mean anything. Stephenson’s agent isnt going to say, well curry is better and he makes 9 so we will take less. Agents look at the highest paid guys that are comparable and start from there. Marcin gortats agent will probably argue that guys like hibbert and chandler are comparable and he wants that kind of money. Then its up to the teams to fight for him. The better question is whats your argument? How does a higher salary negatively impact a players production? How does curry being underpaid impact the dozens of non all-star caliber free agents making more then 13 mill?

so other then 13 million being too high, no one has an opinion on what lance is worth this summer or how highly they value him compared to other free agents?

I do this 13 is pretty high for him.  But he is a pretty unique instance as it is rare for a player who has shown growth and production like he has… And be and be as young as he is.  He could definitely play his way into a 13 mil player by the end of the contract because he is still improving.  It really is a unique situation.  For the Lakers I would be comfortable paying him 7 to 10 mil.  I know that is a wide range but its really hard to peg.

It leaves room for other max players, and still leaves potential for it to be a bargain in a few years if he reaches his potential.

Just wanted to give you an answer that wasn’t a neg or a your stupid fr suggesting something.  Like people used to do on this site.

But why would you want to devote 13 million to Lance while Kobe is making around 24 and nash around 9. That’s 46 million in 3 players you’re expecting to lead you back to the playoffs in one of the most competitive western conferences of all time.

Honestly, why not wait another year where more free agents will be available…

nash is a non factor. he will come off the bench and His 9 mill will come off the books after this season.

The 2 primary goals for the lakers this summer should be to get better defensively, and try and add quality pieces one step at a time even if it doesnt thrust them into contention. I think in lance and the #7 pick, you can add two solid pieces and hopefully both can play defense. The lakers will still be players in next years free agency class when nash’s contract comes off the books. I just look at this summer’s free agency and dont see any guys im truly excited about. monroe wants max money, lowry and bledsoe both had incredible seasons, but im always leary towards guys who have career years in a contract season, plus pg is a position with a lot of depth in the nba. And whoever the lakers add, they should be both young and able to help kobe on the wing defensively since at his age he cant be asked to gaurd the elite wings. Lance answers all those questions.

I think Lance is worth 10-11 million. 13 million wouldn’t be too high if he continued to become better. I think he matured after his loss to Miami. If you see his social media posts, he was fairly humble.

If he continues improving, 13 million would be a pretty good price…

It would be great if Kobe restructed his deal. If he instead made 12-15 million, that’d be so much more helpful to them. They could potentially then get Lance and Monroe and add a young talent in this draft.

Lance is pretty good. I predict he gets between 10-12$ mil because yes, there are many players that get overpaid because of bidding wars and remember, there are bad teams out there who need to take a risk and hope it pans out. If I’m the lakers, I don’t really plan around Kobe anymore. At this point, he’s coming off 2 pretty bad injuries and he’s 35-36 and if I’m not mistaken, his contract is up after this season anyway. He will either retire, sign elsewhere with a chance to win one more time or take a huge paycut to stay with LA. Anyway, lance isn’t a good fit in LA because aside from Kobe, their only players are gaurds right now. But, where ever he goes, hopefully he keeps up his upward production and continues to get better. By the way, I don’t think he has character concerns. He’s a quality guy off court and is a good teammate. He’s ultra competitive and will do anything to win. What’s wrong with the nba when guys that play hard and do anything for their team to win are looked at as head cases or problem players?

kobe has 2 more years remaining. ANd as for not being a good fit becasue the roster is all gaurds, nash is irrelevent and on his way out. Marshall is a backup and sacre is a big. The only other guy is kobe and both he and lance can play multiple positions 1-3. Lakers need help everywhere, but its not like the gaurd position is set by any means.
