cheetosjalapeno17ParticipantMabuhay guys, was just wondering that if in the case that both Smart AND Randle both fall to the laker’s pick at 7, Who do you think should they get?
I have a good feeling about julius randle, and i think you need a good forward to compete out west. I know its a point guard driven lead, but I’m very cautious about Smart’s jumper and suspect decision making…I just believe that Randle is the safer AND sexier pick. I think he’ll thrive in the more open and faster NBA game. Yeah, he may have short arms (though a 7 foot wingspan is acceptable already) and he plays sort of under the rim, I believe he can compete due to his strength, face up abilities (though his spin is totally scouted already), and GREAT motor.
What do you guys think? Randle or Smart? Or maybe somebody else? (Gordon, McBuckets, Saric)
Also, Spurs in 5

ibe12ParticipantI like Randle and Smart but I think Randle is the better overall player of the two. I think it’s a lot harder for a team to find a PF who can physically do what Randle can do than it is to find someone who can do what Smart does a PG or SG.

prophetmeirParticipantI say smart would be a great pairing with Kobe, both have that killer mindset. Can guard any one or two right off the gate and would make the entire team more competitive. I think its going to take time for randle to adjust could be a few years to really find his niche.

For_Never_EverParticipantI think Randle is the safer pick like a steady steed, but if Smart truly is a PG he would be the better pick. I’m 50/50 on him actually being one in the league. He would be much more impactful and imposing at his position then Randle would be at his, if he is a PG.

AstroParticipantI actually like Smart despite his flaws and the fan incident. In the right organization he could mature into a great leader and dominate two-way PG. That combination of motor, strength, athleticism and passing ability reminds me in some ways of Jason Kidd (who was of course a better passer – and Smart may be more athletic – but it’s the closest analogy I can think of.)
My take on this is that we are approaching the draft totally wrong. The Spurs have shown that the formula isn’t “plug a good player anywhere.” It just doesn’t work. Even lottery guys need to be developed.
So it doesn’t really matter if the Lakers take Randle or Smart. It matters whether they have someone who can get them to buy in and develop what needs to be developed.

Neggedpastorabove poster is right on the money.
I say smart randle will have to compete with some of the best bigs in the west all the time their deep and huge out there.
I love randle but becoming a productive big doesn’t happen in most rookie seasons.
we have seen a lot of pgs take home rookie of the year its more easier for them because they don’t have to get fed the ball or work on post moves to even get touches by the coach or players. they have to gain trust from players if you are going to put a pg out there you will trust him or you wouldn’t let him be lead guard and smart will give you one thing you need to compete Someone able to be pesk to pgs in this league and that WANTS TO DEFEND TOP PGS IN THE LEAGUE PLUS ABLE TO.
that would help kobe so much.0 - Posted on: Fri, 06/13/2014 - 7:38am #918397

OhCanada-ParticipantLast years draft was plagued by prospects that had preseason injuries. This is a big reason why guys like Bennett, Mccollum, and Len underperformed. I think teams will make an adjustment this year and rather select a player ready to be plugged into Summer League, Training Camp, and Preseason. With Randles foot surgery and due to last years negative results for injured players drafted I believe when faced with a tough decision like Randle/Smart or Randle/Vonleh,Gordon Randle will drop.
I think Randle will eventually be a top 5 in this draft player career wise. Wouldnt it be fun to see him drop to 10th.

NbafanmanParticipantI think they should take smart. They need a strong pg with mamba mentality like Kobe to go up against the other PG’s in the west such as Westbrook, Lillard, Paul, Parker. Oh and money marcus got that jumper just watch his draft workout video on YouTube.

Skeating12345ParticipantYou cannot judge his shooting ability based on a workout video. They are all uncontested jumpers, and those workout videos only show the made shots. I am sure he is working on his jumper, but he has a long way to go until he has a consistent jumpshot.

jtthebrickParticipantNow that Randle’s foot may be an issue, this is a tougher question.
You have to consider that Kendall Marshall has shown some promise. He’s also a big PG like Smart, but also a true point. Something that Smart isn’t.
If the doctors say that Randle can have surgery and be 100% by training camp, I think you have to look hard at him if you’re the Lakers. PF is a bigger position of need.
If the Lakers go with Smart, I think they should try to move Marshall while his stock is high.

Meditated StatesParticipantAgainst no defense. He will see longef and more athletic guys in the NBA. He shot poorly throughout college. What happens to ever player year one who is a rookie guard? They shoot a bad percentage and thats even the good shooters wich Smart has not been. No way I take him b4 Randle.

HaleParticipantRandle quite easily to me. Smart has too many serious issues for me right. He can’t shoot, he has horrific shot selection and he’s not a point guard. Randle’s been harped on for his lack of defense and length. Well the combine showed his length is just fine and defensively he was much better at the end of the year. He’s going to be a great player.

Lafferty DanielParticipantWoah woah woah. You’re telling me they make jalapeno flavored Cheetos?
To answer your question, I like Randle more for the Lakers at 7. I’m not too worried about the potential minor foot surgery.

ExumInfernoParticipantThe Lakers didn’t win because of a point guard during Kobe Bryant years, so maybe because they had Shaq inside and then later Gasol, Bynum inside to balance the offense from Bryant it would mean Randle is the player they would want.
Bryant is healthy, Randle scores closer to the basket, that seems to work better than drafting a point guard although if the Lakers have an idea of which free agents they will keep, like Hill or Gasol, who can play inside and even which they can sign from other teams maybe it changes their thinking.
They also have Nash under contract, so assuming he and Bryant start for the Lakers they will have a grater need for new inside players, like Randle.

BallinmvpParticipantI feel smart can be a good offensive playmaker and an even better defender, no pg is posting him up. Randle will be a man in the post but projects to be a ok defender at best. I think smart would be the smarter pick long term but randle can come I and get you buckets and rebounds

GrandmamaParticipantI like Randle as a prospect a lot more than Smart. Hopefully Randle’s foot doesn’t remain a problem.
