Some rumors have started to surface that the Sixers are putting up smokescreens to cover up the fact that the player they really want at 3 is, in fact, Joel Embiid.

Sixers fans, would you be upset if they somehow wind up drafting Embiid instead of walking away with Parker, Exum, or Wiggins ?

I wouldn’t be upset. It’s really a crapshoot with the top 3 anyway. If Embiid is the guy they think will be the best long term then they need to take him. They shouldn’t be drafting for need at this stage of the rebuild, but highest potential/BPA.

Him and Noel would form an awesome twin tower combo for the future, provided Noel is healthy next year.

I deleted 3 or 4 responses to you just now saying that they weren’t a good fit together. While writing I talked myself out of it. I thought of the troubles Howard and Asik on the floor together (and many other big man tandems) but they are different players. Embiid’s shooting stroke and fluidity look very promising. Embiid could be the next great back to the basket, true center in the league but could also be great in PnP with Noel baseline weakside catching lobs, and in the high post with Noel slashing or screening. I still worry a bit about Noel guarding quicker 4’s, especially when teams go small, but he is extremely quick and agile for his size. He could be a very versatile defender. Thad Young would be perfect compliment to pair with the two big men but he will most likely be traded. Aaron Gordon might fit as well.

Whoever they get I kinda wish I was a Philly fan. Love MCW, Noel could be elite defender, and these two picks in a supposedly great draft. I would fancy Wiggins and LaVine but you can’t be mad with Embiid and whatever shooter/wing player you like Stauskas, LaVine, McDermott, Harris, Hood, etc.

Who would drive the paint with those 2 lurking ?????  If we could only guard the 3 point line !

I think Noel is a 4 anyhoo – in the old Dale Davis mode – get boards, play D, putbacks and opportunity points

Embid projects to be the best player in this draft, philly should be ecstatic if for some crazy luck he lands there.

Would the 76ers be willing to trade Nerlens Noel to either Boston, Sacremento, or Los Angeles? The Celtics, Kings, and Lakers would need to give up their pick. Would the 76ers need to give up the 10th pick or a second rounder?

I only ask because I have some doubts about a potential Noel-Embiid pairing. They would be a block party on the defensive end, but they would have some trouble in the half-court offense. I think Embiid and Thadeus Young are a better pairing. Thoughts?

that they are smokescreening for Parker. Have you noticed Philly doesn’t talk about him.

If they can get Embiid at the 3, they can send Noel to the Lakers for the 7th pick (Randle?). Those two would be a heck of a pairing.

You know, that is quite an interesting point as well.  I think a Randle-Embiid tandem works better than a Noel-Embiid tandem anyway.

Paring of Embiid and Randle is great combination but Lakers trading the 7th pick for a player coming back from a knee injury, maybe pushing it a bit?

    whoever they get @ 3. I just don’t want them to trade 3 & 10 for 1.

I thought it was pretty obvious at the lottery drawing that they were hoping for #1 & Embiid based on Dr.J’s reaction.  I don’t think there’s any way that Embiid lasts until 3.

I think the draft shakes out 2 ways

    Embiid-Parker-Wiggins

    or

    Parker-Embiid-Wiggins

i think the big smokescreen of this draft is how teams at the top view Parker over Wiggins.  Maybe the Sixers do as well, but I got the sense that Embiid was probably their top choice.

Philly has no control over which of the three falls to them.  If they really bothering with smoke screens they are wasting their time.
