Living in the states I rarely get to watch European basketball. I know of a lot of players over there especially the younger guys who are prospects. But my question is who are the best players in Europe right now and if they were to play in the NBA right now what do you think their realistic role/ comparison would be. Thanks for the info.

Right now the Italian legue is terrible… The best players here are:

    – Alessandro Gentile. The only real prospect from our legue that can have success in the NBA. A lot of people do not like him because he is arrogant, but he is a leader and a real competitor… I believe he can be a good player given the chance in the NBA. He is young, but he is already the captain of the best team in Italy, the EA7, that almost made it to the Euroleague final four. Comparison: Sasha Danilovic

    – Joel Hackett. He made the college in the US, but now he much more ready for the NBA. He can play both PG and SG and I believe that he could be a nice bench player in the US. He is strong and a good defender, but does not shoot well. Comparison: Dwayne Wade as far as play style, but nowhere near Wade.

    – Keith Langford is by far the best player we have in Italy probably, but I do not believe he can be succesful in the NBA.

In Europe, there are lots of prospects, but I believe Mirotic is the best player right now. He could be succesful in the NBA.

I can make suggestions for the role of the players, but we all know that the success of a player depends a lot on the team/coach/style, even more for rookies and EVEN MORE for Europeans (change of country, language, culture…) at least in my opinion. Here comes a list that could be perfectly longer:

Sergio Rodriguez — 25-30 mpg – Game changer

     Nikola Mirotic — 25 mpg – Versatility (stretch 4)

Ante Tomic — 20 mpg – Polished post moves

     Victor Khryapa — 20 mpg – All around player/Team-first

Milos Teodosic — 20 mpg – Energy and character

Dimitris Diamantidis — 20 mpg – Wits/Best option on the court

     Sonny Weems — 20-25 mpg – Shooting/highlights

     Vassilis Spanoulis — 25-30 mpg – Leadership/Push

     Keith Langford — 20 mpg – Scoring

     Alessandro Gentile — 15 mpg – Youth/Potential/All around/Glue guy

     Bo McCalebb — 25 mpg – Explosiveness/Scoring

    Nemanja Bjelica — 15 mpg – Stretch 4/Shooting

    Linas Kleiza — 15-20 mpg – Shooting/Toughness

    Tibor Pleiss — 15 mpg – Rebounding/Post moves

    Bojan Bogdanovic — 20-25 mpg – All around/Shooting

    Bogdan Bogdanovic — 10 mpg – Youth/Shooting

    Daniel Hackett — 15 mpg – Control/Decision making

    Justin Doellman — 15-20 mpg – Unpredictable moves/Versatility

PDT: Linas Kleiza will bring you some of King’s Landing as well 😉
