For_Never_EverParticipantI think Jerami Grant could end up better then poeple think. He is seen as a undersized PF at the next level. But, I think he can end up being a very high level motor defender and hustle player at SF. He has a very quick step and bouncy, orperates well using it in the the mid range attacking the basket like MKG.
If he was to become a SF in the NBA he would be one of the most gifted phyically out of this draft being likely 6’8.5 with a 7ft plus wingspand, broad shoulders and large hands.
He will need become a better shooter. I think his form can be tweaked by shooting the ball to the side of his head off his shoulder like Tony Allen or Larry bird. My best case is Kawhi Leonard, and worst case is MKG right now.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantHe is no where even CLOSE to MKG as a defender, that basement is a huge slight to MKG. Sure he hasnt been great in the league, but you are underrating him incredibly if you think Jerami is going to be AT LEAST as good as him.

For_Never_EverParticipantI don’t believe I said he is good as MKG on defense. Worst case meaning he is the kinda player MKG is right now.

he_gets_bucketsParticipantThe kind of player MKG is right now is a high level defender, above average rebounder and elite athelete. Jerami average about .6 board less then MKG in the same amount of minutes in their respective solo years in college, but MKG had much better rebounding bigs on his team, and as such I think MKG is a much better rebounder and defender. They are on similar levels offensively, but I dont see Jerami Grants base being 7.5 points and 5 boards. I can see him being MUCH worse then that.

SpaceghostParticipantMKG..Good Ath.yes.Elite nawwww..as far as Jerami.. Really hard to tell what kind of defender he really is because the Cuse play 98% zone and rarely if ever presses defensivly. Rebounding.. Again Cuse zone forces teams to take long shots which leads to long rebounds so i think grant will be more of a high motor rebounder similar to MKG.. Both players are very limited offensively..Its basically depending apon what team drafts Jerami. Should only be asked to defend and rebound . How the hell cant he shoot..His Dad Harvey and Uncle Horace both were good spot up 15 ft shooters in the league..Damn work with ya boy! MKG shot just really limits his growth as a player.

Moon RiverParticipantHow about Hakim Warrick? He carved himself out a nice little niche in the association. Both are very good athletes and came into the league with questionable outside shooting.
Still happy Phoenix gave him that big contract. Seems like a good dude.

B-ball fanParticipantI think Grant could be a solid PF in the league, but he will likely need to play PF to make it. His offensive game is that of a PF. He is very good at catching the ball within 15 feet of the rim and flying in to attack the basket, but if he gets out farther than that, his lack of shooting ability hurts him. Maybe he could do well at SF on a team with a stretch-4 that allows Grant to stay inside the arc without hurting spacing, but I think Grant is a PF at the next level.
I do think Grant will get very favorable measurements at the combine. He has grown since entering college. He looks at least 2 inches taller than CJ Fair, so I expect Grant is at least 6’8" and perhaps 6’9" in shoes, as he does claim to have grown to 6’9".

Lotto StudParticipantSince you threw out the PF talks, do you think he can have the same type of impact as Thaddeus Young who plays out of position as well?
I’m not opposed to this at all. Just want some insight on the impact he can have by mentioning Thad.

B-ball fanParticipantPehaps, but considering Young is stronger than Grant and is really the only starting PF his size in the league, I think it is somewhat unlikely Grant makes the impact Young does.
I think stylistically Grant is like a miniature homeless man’s version of Anthony Davis. Worse at just about everything, but good with quick drives to the rim, the PnR, running the floor in transition and attacking the O-Boards. Young actually plays more like a wing than Grant and is a more adept ball-handler. So is DAD, but Grants tries to score in the same way as AD.

imAboutDatActionParticipantthis kid has no position.
he will not play SF. he simply cant shoot or even handle the ball. We all know the struggles MKG has shooting the ball, but Grant is worse lol. i believe he only made 1 3 pointer last season.
he’s a PF who’s extremly skinny with no post game. for all the people raving about his defensive potential, his steals/block rates were underwhelming. he had the athletcism and length to make an impact, but he didnt, which raises red flags.
i wouldnt touch him. i see him busting.

For_Never_EverParticipantI’m equating that zone defense limits your stats numbers. However, he stood out being able quickle leave the paint sticking smaller players on the perimater. I don’t know what his stats were on the free throw line, but his form is nowhere near bad as MKG.

imAboutDatActionParticipantzone or not, a person with his athleticism should have higher steals/block rates. we’ve all become aware on how imprtant that is for a prospect.
form or not, Grant is a worse shooter. which puts things into perspective into how bad of a shooter he is.
i just see another player without a position and skillset.

0- Posted on: Thu, 05/01/2014 - 9:22am #896263

imAboutDatActionParticipantMKG was part of the reason that college team was great.after AD,he was the 2nd best player on that team. anywhere else he still would’ve been a top 5-7 pick.
lol oh, now you’re not a stats guy? but you were when you asked for MKG’s shooting stats.
you cant just say someone will improve their shooting when their stats suggest they;re so far behind. even if his jumper looks better than MKG’s, its still broken.
Grant simply cant shoot the ball. his stats tell the story.

For_Never_EverParticipantYeah, Grant shooting from the line 55% his first year, then his second year what up close to 70% isn’t improving. Yeah, I misunderstood you and corrected it. I’m not sure why, but you seem to be getting really upset at the notion I think Grant can be a simliar player to what MKG is right now.

imAboutDatActionParticipantaint nobody upset.
you’re just way off in this thread.
yeah his FT% improved ( shot 56% last year & 67% this year) but thats mianly due to playing 17 more minutes a game this year.
he simply cant shot the ball in the perimeter.
your comparisons to Leonard ( his best case) is off because he can actually stretch the floor. he’s a great 3 and D guy.
giving MKG as his floor is giving Grant too much credit. MKG is not an all world NBA player, but he’s a real decent rotational player.
Grant will not be a SF at the NBA. he’s a 6’8 skinny PF with no post moves to speak of…good luck with that.

Scott42444ParticipantGrant doesn’t have the skillset to play SF in the NBA. He’s SOOOO far away that he would actually hurt a team if they put him on the wing. The NBA is NOT the proper place for him to make such major strides. If his measurements do him some favors and he’s a legit 6’9", taller with shoes, he will make the league as a PF. His skills would allow him to see the court in garbage minutes at the PF position and he would spend the majority of his 1st year (and probably his 2nd year) in the D-League. His athleticism is elite, but he can’t dribble or shoot. If he were 2 inches taller, he wouldn’t have so many questions around him. Unfortunately, he’s not strong enough yet and isn’t tall enough to really stay on the block. It’s a shame. I would love for him to succeed as I loved his Uncle Horace here in Chicago. I just think there are players that have great athleticism that are so much further along with their shot and ball handling skills, or are taller and have more weight on their body to bang down low.

machu46ParticipantAs a huge Cuse fan, I’ve seen all of his games the past two years. I think he’ll end up playing the PF in the NBA, or like someone else mentioned, he could potentially play SF if they have a stretch PF.
If he bulks up a bit, I think he’s athletic and long enough to play PF, and he’s a good enough ball-handler as a PF that he can catch the ball 15 feet and in and face-up his man like Blake Griffin does (but obviously not nearly as good as Blake).
In the very least, I think he’ll carve out a niche as a high-motor kinda guy. He’s not a very disciplined defender yet, but he flies around the court trying to make things happen, and I also think he’ll eventually develop an average mid-range game. The percentages probably don’t show it, but his jumper looks a lot better now than it did when he first arrived on campus, and he shoots it pretty well in workouts and warm-ups. He’ll never be a knockdown shooter, but I think he can get to the point where his mid-range is good enough that you have to respect it, and then he’ll be able to use his ball-handling and explosive first step to beat his man to the basket.

tidhoParticipantI see him as a project with nice upside, but a long shot to fulfill it.
He’s an NBA SF. I don’t see why people view an underdeveloped offensive game as a deterant to that. Its your defensive ability, or limitations, that define your NBA position.
Any team with two ball dominant guards (Cleveland for example) or a team that runs their offenst through a PF (like Dallas or often Miami) could easily insert Grant into their lineup.
