Memphis MadnessParticipantThe Thunder have two great go-to guys in Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. They also have a good third option in Serge Ibaka, but have lacked consistent scoring from anybody else. Reggie Jackson had a great Game 4 against Memphis, but has been up and down the rest of the series. Reggie was better as a starter, and hasn’t gotten into the groove as a bench guy.
Well, Westbrook is great but he is not a true point guard. Neither is Reggie. Durant is an excellent player but more of a scorer than a Bird or LeBron style playmaker at the 3.
This Thunder team needs a playmaker. A guy who passes, handles the ball, and creates offense. It could also use a crafty player/3rd or 4th option who can chip in with some scoring too, like they had with James Harden.
I think Kyle Anderson could really help them. He is a passer and a playmaker and I could also see him being a solid fourth option on offense. Having him on the team would allow OKC to play Russell off the ball. Slow Mo could help create offense for Durant, Russell, and Serge. You could picture a really well-rounded small ball Thunder team of Reggie Jackson and Russell Westbrook in the backcourt, Kyle Anderson as the point forward, Kevin Durant as the stretch four scorer, and Serge Ibaka as the paint protector inside.
In last year’s mock draft I had the Thunder taking MCW. Basically I thought MCW could pass and run the offense and allow Westbrook to concentrate on scoring off the ball. Unfortunately for the Thunder, he went a pick earlier to the Sixers.
Kyle Anderson is supposed to go 9. The Thunder don’t pick until 21, but they also have the 29th pick. I think the Thunder could package the 21st pick, the 29th pick along with Jeremy Lamb and Hasheem Thabeet to come away with Kyle Anderson.
Is Kyle Anderson the guy they need?
Would you trade those assets to get Slo Mo if you are OKC?

imAboutDatActionParticipantlol Kyle Anderson is not going top 10. i can guarantee that.
its possible he falls to their lap at 21.
and Kyle is far from a sure thing. his defense is a major problem and theres no way he can defend guards at the NBA. he’s also so slow, theres questions if he can beat people off the dribble and create shots for others/himself.
Anderson will not fix all of OKC’s problem. he’s not someone you have to trade for to take the next step.
Russell, for all the chit he gets, is still one of the top PG’s in the league. possibly top 3.

imAboutDatActionParticipanti said its possible.
he’s such a bad athlete i cant see someone grabbing him in the lottery.
i like his game, its just the lack of athleticism and defensiv question marks are huge red flags.

TyroberParticipantA rookie isn’t going to come in and help the Thunder win now. Brooks also doesn’t seem to play rookies at all so I couldn’t imagine him doing too much for a few years anyway. Rookies make a lot of mistakes and a team trying to win it all isn’t the place for them to learn and develop.

JordoParticipantI don’t see where Kyle Andreson fixes OKC’s problems. You say the need a playmaker that can handle the ball and create offense but they have two of the best players at that already. You say they need a 3rd or 4th option but I thought they were suppose to be devloping lamb to fill that role eventually?

B-ball fanParticipantWhile Kyle Anderson could really help them by giving them a creative ball mover, the Thunder are giving up way too much in that scenario, especially for a rookie. The Thunder’s offensive execution is likely going ot have to be improved from within for the most part.

Magic JordanParticipantKyle Anderson isn’t a ball mover, he does his work making plays with the ball in his hand.

BlueLacesParticipantKyle Anderson hasn’t even been drafted yet and we’re already bring up trade talk revolving around him?

King CaluchaParticipantWhile Anderson is a high iq player that makes his teammates better, I don’t think he would excel with Scott Brooks as a coach. They just run too many isos for Durant and Westbrook, the ball would not be on Anderson’s hands, hence he would struggle like he did on his freshman year at UCLA.

morestealsthanscoresParticipantI like the way you’ve thought this through, but i think Tyrober hits the nail on the head- they’re in win-now mode. they’re already carrying a lot of young players- i think they could really use some vets.
