Okay, I’m gonna start by asking why the hell isn’t McRoberts putting up better stats than what he actually puts up this season? Yes, I may be overthinking this situation or overrating the player but each time I see the guy play he impresses me more and more.

He averaged 8.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.3 assists 0.7 steals and 0.6 blocks this season in his first major role as a starter. I really feel though he could post much better numbers than that. The reason is because the guy’s a TALENT. I mean, he has practically all the tools (except maybe strength) to be an all-star in this league; and yes I cliam that in all seriousness. Dude’s extremely athletic, is an elite passer in his position, has s pretty decent post game though not used often and can shoot the three-ball consistently. (All of which are HUGE assests for a bigman to have in today’s game) He is 6’10, 240 with a 7’1 wingspan; quality physical tools. Moreover, the guy’s ball-handling and basketball IQ is again, one of the best at his position

With all that said, I don’t see why he isn’t capable of averaging  16, 8.5 and 4 with a steal and one and a half blocks per game. He is also the PERFECT complement to Al Jeff in the offensive end. His post entries to Big Al are perfectly placed, while his ability to handle the ball from outside and dish is a great complement to Jefferson’s inside presence. His long range ability also spaces the floor when Al jeff is posting up. I just see so much unfulfilled potential in the guy.

My other question would then be, would you start Cody Zeller over him in the near future? I feel, some qualities McRoberts lacks Zeller possesess which are hustle and defense. Zeller is also younger and has more potential to grow as a player. I wonder if Bobcat fans rather have Zeller starting over him in the future since it would seem like an ultimate waste of pick if Zeller won’t be given playing time to produce and flash his potential. I feel though they have a solid starter already in McRoberts especially next to Al, but it is a good problem to have. I apologize for the long post on a player no one really entirely cares about though, lol.

People asked the same thing at Duke. Lack of ways to score outside of nasty dunks has limited him.

McRoberts fluorished in high school on an AAU team with Mike Conley and Greg Oden. Conley was the type of PG who could take advantage of McRoberts’ skills, and Oden was the type of post presence that freed McRoberts to slash (rather than post). The combination made McRoberts a top recruit.

When he got to Duke he had a comparable big man, but not the PG.  Then he stepped into a team that looked to JJ Redick as options 1, 2, and 3.

And then as a sophomore, he had neither the PG nor the big man. Despite that, he played really well. He just never had it in his system to be the "take over a game" type of player.

Just to go back and think he was ranked #1 over the likes of…

    • Gerald Green
    • Monta Ellis
    • Lou Williams
    • Andrew Bynum
    • Amir Johnson

The ability is there or once was there because those guys have outperformed him at the next level.

I just know Bill Laimbeer is somewhere smiling when he watches McRoberts play in this series.

I don’t know what his stats are or how many he takes, but he is a really good shooter from the outside. He seemed forced to do it because no one was scoring.

He and Brandan Wright are the biggest enigmas in the league for me.

Mcroberts was underwhelming at duke after being a highly ranked high school player.  He even came out and said that playing for coach k wasn’t the best decision for him.  He came out after dukes embarrassing first round loss to Vcu and has turned into a pretty solid nba player.  He turned out a lot better than I thought he would.  The bobcats are a solid young team and with mcroberts should be in contention for the playoffs for years to come in a weak eastern conference.
