llperezthe clippers owner has long been rumored to be a closet racist. His former gm elgin baylor said sterling was racist but most turned their head becasue baylor had been there 20+ years despite not excelling at his job and figured it was sour grapes once he was finally fired. but now there is recorded audio of stern spouting ignorance. Here are some excerpts:
— “It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?” (3:30)
— “You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that … and not to bring them to my games.” (5:15)
— “I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.” (7:45)
— “…Don’t put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don’t bring him to my games.” (9:13)

llperezmy question is does this impact the clippers ability to attract and keep players going forward? Will this result in fan backlash?
edit: and to put the original post into context, it was a conversation sterling was having with a girl he was seeing discussing with how he didnt appreciate her posting pictures of herself with black people. The story is on tmz where i found it.

DaGuywhodidurmaParticipantThis isn’t anything new. One of the worst quotes I’ve ever read about him from a reporter was when he supposedly walked into the locker room after a game with 2 women and told them to "look at all that beautiful black meat" while the players were showering.
He’s a disgusting human being.

Forte IVParticipantI see no reason for this thread honestly. Everyone knows he’s racist and hates pregant women and poor families. There’s already been evidence shown in the past about how horrible of a human being he is. It hasn’t lead to backlash before, and it won’t now. Especially now that the Clippers are title contenders. Players want to win. Coaches want to win. A horrible owner won’t push people away. Especially when they’re already known for it.

llperezbecasue there has been tons of reports without proof. Rumors and supposed comments that came from someone who heard something that someone told them. Now their is audio proof in a day and age where media jumps all over this stuff. If you dont think an active nba owner being openly racist is thread worthy, then go click on another "look at my mock draft" thread.

butidonthavemoneyHe’s had a long history of racist behavior, and it hasn’t seemed to have affected the franchise’s ability to sign talent. I doubt this changes anything on that front.
Fans are resilient. A player can slam his pregnant girlfriend’s head on a staircase, threaten to kill a fan while shouting racist and homophobic slurs, or impregnate a 13-year-old girl; fans will defend these players as long on they’re playing well.
Nobody likes Donald Sterling, but the man could have been caught on video burning puppies while wearing a Nazi uniform with no significant hit as far as the team’s fan-support is concerned.

Scott42444ParticipantYeah, this isn’t anything new. At fiirst I was annoyed that this was getting so much coverage, because this is NOTHING new from this scumbag. But, maybe this will finally get enough traction to force him to sell the team. One story that popped into my mind was that of Baron Davis claiming that Sterling was screaming the N-word at him, claiming that he stole his money when Baron signed with the Clippers (then gave a darn good pick to Cleveland just to take him off their hands).

OhCanada-ParticipantHes like the modern day Calvin Candy from Django Unchained and the LA Clippers and Staples Center is his Candyland. Sterling doesnt care anyways he could probally buy tmz a 500 000 times. Pretty much what you would expect from a 150 year old jewish billionaire (not to affend any jewish people but Sterling grew up during terribly rascist times).

TEQU1LAParticipantWhy Donald? Why? As a long suffering Clippers fan throughout the years now more than ever isn’t the time to stir up drama while the Clips are in the playoffs. The last thing u want is for reporters to ask the Clips players and coaches about having a racist as their boss while their trying to put a team away. I have listened to the audio of this conversation and "the Donald" comes out as an insecure old man more than anything. Honestly, his girlfriend kept baiting him about the whole "black people" thing and the Donald just took the bait everytime. This man sounds like he’s in the early stages of dimentia doesn’t appear to be all there all the time.

schvartze = n!gg*r
goyim = non-Jews = cattle
shiksa = non-Jewish female = filthy whore
shonde fer die goyim = giving God/Jews a bad name in front of the non-Jews/cattle
In a sentence: Sterling committed a shonde fer die goyim by talking about schvartzes with his shiksa girlfriend.

aramboneParticipantRACHEL: Hollywood’s run by Jews. I was advised by an American agent when I was about 19 to change my surname. And I said “Why? Jews run Hollywood.” He said “Exactly.” He had a theory that all the executives think acting’s a job for shiksas.
EMMA: Of all the self-loathing Jews in the world, the most self-loathing are the Hollywood Jews. They don’t want to see images of themselves on screen. That’s why Lauren Bacall had to hide her identity, and Winona Ryder changed her name from Horowitz.
RACHEL: In some way acting is prostitution, and Hollywood Jews don’t want their own women to participate. Also, there’s an element of Portnoy’s Complaint — they all fancy Aryan blondes.

Judaism breeds collective narcissists with indocrtination that Jews are more moral, smarter, more civilized, and on and on and on. Chosen shmozen.

“Goyim were born only to serve us. Without that, they have no place in the world; only to serve the People of Israel,” he said during a public discussion of what kind of work non-Jews are allowed to perform on Shabbat.
“Why are gentiles needed? They will work, they will plow, they will reap. We will sit like an effendi and eat,” he said to some laughter.
“With gentiles, it will be like any person: They need to die, but God will give them longevity. Why? Imagine that one’s donkey would die, they’d lose their money. This is his servant. That’s why he gets a long life, to work well for this Jew,”0- Posted on: Sat, 04/26/2014 - 6:41am #893802

ItsVictorOladipoParticipantI like how you decided not to quote the part where it says:
The American Jewish Committee condemned the rabbi’s remarks in a statement issued Monday.
“Rabbi Yosef’s remarks — suggesting outrageously that Jewish scripture asserts non-Jews exist to serve Jews — are abhorrent and an offense to human dignity and human equality,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. “Judaism first taught the world that all individuals are created in the divine image, which helped form the basis of our moral code. A rabbi should be the first, not the last, to reflect that bedrock teaching of our tradition.”
—————————————————————————————–Yes it’s disgusting that Donald Sterling is this way but lets be honest, anybody will tell you that racism is still alive and well especially among the older generations. However to turn around and start attacking Jewish people is just as bad. Donald Sterling is an individual, and as an individual he is responsible for his own words and deeds. Malik Zulu Shabazz called for the deaths of every “Zionist” in Israel, including babies and old women, but that doesn’t make all black people hateful and bloodthirsty. SMH that a thread about Sterling being a racist has simply brought out more racism.

aramboneParticipantCriticizing the ideology of Jewish supremacism is not racism, but Jewish supremacists will call it racism even though 90% of Jews like Sterling are white. Arab Jews tend to be less supremacist, because they know what it’s like to be brown.
When you tell a kid that his tribe is Chosen, and his tribe is better than all the goyim, intellectually and morally, eternally, that’s supremacism.
Supremacists always believe that THEIR supremacism is simply fact, not repugnant like all the other supremacists they criticize.
This ideology is simply central to Jewish religion and Halacha (Jewish law), which is why we haven’t seen a real Jewish Reformation that involves a real schism. The AJC isn’t about to cut off money to orthodox communities who are supremacist, because those orthodox are just following the Torah and Talmud, and the AJC is still Jewish nationalist/supremacist.

Magic JordanParticipantMan that girlfriend must of really had enough of it so record that and get those responses out of him. In the court room we call that entrapment but not in the court room… Puuure gold.
This is nothing new. Everybody knew this guy was a bigot. Glad someone finally caught it on tape for the whole world to hear.
This might be too soon to think about for those close to the situation. But how are black clipper fans supposed to feel? What about the black clipper players and the black clipper coach? I know how it would make me feel in my place of employment, I would quit. But I imagine no players, or fans or coaches will skip a beat on this. People will still buy tickets and the players will continue to play making him rich. The problem in society isn’t racism anymore ( though don’t get me wrong it does still exist) because for the most part the bigots have been weeded out by the masses who have progressed into accepting people for who they are. The real problem is the value that people place on money. They place it above their own ethics, values and morales and as despicable as this act was…. He won’t face any consequences because the people still just want their money.
Aside from the obvious reasons like actually winning championships this is the main reason LA will never be a Clipper town because their owner won’t help them.
This is the guy you are lining the pockets of with endless amounts of money clippers fans and players…… Be proud of yourselves.

He won’t face any consequences because the people still just want their money.
Aside from the obvious reasons like actually winning championships this is the main reason LA will never be a Clipper town because their owner won’t help them.
This is the guy you are lining the pockets of with endless amounts of money clippers fans and players…… Be proud of yourselves.

bobbybParticipantAs we have said over and over again, this is expected behavior. He is the REAL question we should be asking, which is worse? An 80 year old billionaire racist or a Golddigger who dates/ associates with a guy like this?? Clearly she is beautiful on the outside, but how morallly bankrupt is she that she would be seen with him?? Everybody has got a price. I remember someone asking Stephen A Smith about a free agent signing with the Clips, due to an incedent with Sterling, He said " the players could care less, show me the money". And he was 100 percent correct!

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantI mean she is basically dating him for his wealth but he is doing the same for her youth and beauty. It is intellectually bankrupt to call the person in the conversation questioning rascist comments and ethics, morally bankrupt, if the other person is Donal Sterling spouting veiled and unveiled racist remarks.

RUDEBOY_ParticipantJust heard on the radio that Adam Silver will address the Media tonight here in Memphis..I’m sure he’ll talk about this matter..But there isnt much they can do but give him a hefty fine for detrimental comments..Becuz by laws protect them from forcing him to sell the team. without him doing anything criminal …..Sponsers and fans boycotting his product might force him to sell the team…
Read online where some are calling for Doc Rivers and the players to refuse to play for him…Not sure they’ll do that….I remember when those Marge Schottz racists comments came out over a decade ago, people expected the Reds players to quit the team..But All Star shortstop Byron Larking said the organization is much bigger then her ,it was there long before she became the owner and it’ll be there long after she’s gone and he wasnt playing for her…….

mikeyvthedonParticipantHave been calling him out for being a racist @sshole for years. Should not have been, yet am, a little surprised that this has been used as a platform to go on a deep, anti-semitic rant. Congrats, arambone. By the way, am a white, secular Jewish male. Who thinks that Donald Sterling is a despicable, racist and dislike his actions and practices greatly. Not to mention, know very many others who do not think like him who just so happen to be categorized as "Jewish".
Donald Sterling and some of the other figures, practices you have mentioned may believe certain things that are misinformed, ignorant and/or flat out racist. Just do not know why it has to be categorized to the point where you pretty much include everyone in their race or religion. That is pretty sad. Just throwing that out there, while still thinking Donald Sterling is a horrific owner as I have for a long time for so many reasons.

aramboneParticipantWhat’s sad is that the vast majority of US Jews support an officially Jewish supremacist government for the Jews (Israel), but preach diversity for all the non-Jews of the world. Totally hypocritical, and it just shows that Jewish values change depending upon the circumstances, and what’s "good for the Jews".
22 out of the 24 top Hollywood execs are Jewish, according to JJ Goldberg of the Jewish Daily Forward. But a non-Jew is almost universally called an anti-"semite" if they point this fact out. I don’t see many or any Jews advocating for the celebration of democracy by diversifying Hollywood and the media giants that run this country and decide elections and promote wars for Israel.
Like I said, there’s no schism in the Jewish community. The orthodox bigots are embraced by even secular Jews, who circle the wagons when outside criticism strikes. I don’t doubt you’re a decent human, and I know younger generations of Jews are more humane and less tribal and supremacist. But the toxic ideology will go on with or without you, and I hope you’ll understand and perhaps someday even join in the fight against jewish supremacism, if only because many Jewish supremacists have so much power to do so much wrong to the goyim.

aramboneParticipantI’ve been studying this issue for 11 years, I used to be a Judeophile, a non-Jewish jewish supremacist basically.
The illuminati includes people of different religious and racial backgrounds, but Jewish individuals play the leading role.
Just in this country alone, Jews make up 1.5% of the population, but make up 33% of the Supreme Court, 40% of America’s billionaires, 75% of national campaign donations, 95% of Hollywood executives, etc. The past three heads of the Federal Reserve have been kosher, while incredible amounts of wealth have been transferred.
Most concerning is the wars, and the bankrupting effect they have on our souls and our national solvency. And 9/11, which relates directly http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RC1Mepk_Sw

chaParticipantImagine the things running through everyone’s head that next time he goes to a Clipper game. If I were the players, I wouldn’t play the rest of the season and boycott to send a message. I understand that they worked their butts off for the chance to be here but Sterling is a poor excuse for a human being and I can’t see myself represent a franchise and it’s ownership that discriminates my race. I don’t even know HOW you can be racist and be an owner of a basketball team. Good thing Sterling showed me how.
Also, I vote Sterling to sell his ownership as soon as possible.

TEQU1LAParticipantF*** that, u should never let someone else’s actions stop u from going after what u want in life. CP3 and the rest of the Clippers have busted their @sses this season to get to where they are. For them to give up now would be a huge spit in the face to all the fans that supported this crappy franchise throughout the yrs (me included). I been a Clips fans since 1997 back when Mo Taylor and Rodney Rogers ran the show, and trust me I have seen many of my favorite Clips come and go (Brand, Miles, QRich, Bledsoe) and still have stuck with them to this day. But I can honestly say if they gave up on the fans by boycotting the games then I’m done being a Clippers fans. Truth be told, I could really care less about DTS everyone has known for yrs he’s a racist David Stern is partly at fault for not removing him as the owner a long time ago. If I’m Doc I tell my team that champions fight through adversity and don’t give up when things get tuff.

doubledribblerParticipantI haven’t read all of these posts, but it has been widely known that he was a racist. It seems as if people forgot about the whole thing with him not wanting to rent to blacks and mexicans. Back when that was known, I could not believe people would want to play for him.
The problem is that there are only so many NBA jobs and millions of dollars at stake. Even if you are just one of the everyday workers like a janitor, this is a bad situation. These people are going to have to come to work.
If I’m a Clippers fan of any color I just stay home and watch the game on tv. If I’m a player I am publicly demanding a trade once the season is over if Sterling still owns the team. If I am Doc Rivers I am asking out. Not saying that is how it plays out because there is lots of money at stake, but sometimes you have to stand up for things that matter even if it costs you.

Definitely not saying that this makes him not racist, it’s just really bizarre that he’s dating a black girl (her name is V. The fact that people went after him on here for his being Jewish and insinuating that’s how Jewish people are is an embarrassment to the education system. When you pit a minority group against.a minority group, the only people that lose are minorities.
Being outraged at the situation is correct, warranted, and needed. But saying "The Jews are racist" (paraphrasing) IS racist. Genius. I’m sure we can be more constructive than that.

Its the hypersexualized, exotic, wild, savage imagery that society has only continued to advertise en mass. Its probably a continuation of his absolute abhorance of being around black people or even being thought to be personally connected to those he deems unworthy, aka, unfuckable, while still making bank on their effort and hard work.
Seriously, fuck this guy. FUCK this guy. And honestly, I would, and I expect any one else, to lambast any racist comment they hear, anywhere. Just letting comments like this go by without anyone telling them how horrible and stupid they are is the same as saying, "Its ok, tell me more." Apathy is acceptance.

Rip255I had to read through a lot of racial BS in this thread just to find anything basketball related regarding the clippers.
Anyways….I have a theory. I think this will unite the team. The coach and guys that actually play will use it for motivation. This will make them angry and they’ll play with a much needed mean-streak. They are winning this championship for Donald Sterling. I doubt any of them even talk to him.
Agree or disagree? I just don’t think this makes them play worse.

kingoftheplaygroundParticipant..I thought. Some of these comments are very thought provoking and I’m happy to have the opportunity to read them. I don’t want the Clippers to play. In my opinion, making a positive stand against racism would be a much bigger accomplishment than beating the Warriors. The Clippers would be taking 2 steps backward by for fitting the series but would be leaping 10 steps forward by standing up for what is just. Imagine the impact it would have on the world if these professional athletes decided that equality is worth more than money and entertainment. Until someone big enough to take an unbiased yet positive stance against racism does so, issues like these will continue to occur. I am a black man who has love and respect for all other races.

MadDogParticipantThat whole conversation just makes Sterling completely insane. Blatant racist remarks aside, he doesn’t even sound like he’s got the capacity to run an NBA team at this point, its like he can’t string consistent thoughts together. I think its fair to say just a suspension / fine would not be enough in the eyes of anyone associating with the NBA at the moment and people will only be happy when he is no longer part of the league. The Larry Bird comment from his girlfriend though? HitsterParticipantRumours about Sterling’s unpleasant racial views have been an open secret for years, now it has really blown up. Lets first say that comments about Sterling being Jewish have no part to play in this investigation, we all know that lots of major businesses are run or were founded by Jewish people and I believe Adam Silver himself is jewish.
The problem here is that an owner has made comments that are directly offensive to an all time great player plus the majority of his players, coaching staff, fans and any reasonable person regardless of race. The pressure is growing on Donald Sterling from within the NBA dressing rooms, fans, media, the key could be what view do the other owners have as they effectively have Adam Silver answer to them. A lot of spotlight has also fallen on MJ as he is certainly the most famous team owner and again unfairly as he is a black american. The key will be what does Adam Silver think he can do and what will he do and how will other owners act. There are some very influential and high profile NBA owners who could well almost have to take sides.
Plus with all the media interest and comments by leading public figures like Rev Jackson, how long before this gets mentioned in one of the Houses on Capital Hill or even gets brought up at a senior political press conference maybe even with the President himself.
My own personal view of Sterling might have been that he was perhaps "generationally racist" he still maye used terms that were now considered inappropriate but didn’t realise the offence they might cause. Now I realise that was a far too generous view to take on someone who is clearly not a nice person and has biggoted views.
As you all probably know I’m UK based. Back in 1991 a former football club owner called Ron Noades who only died last year created a media storm when he said the following "The black players at this club lend the side a lot of skill and flair, but you also need white players in there to balance things up and give the team some brains and common sense". Noades was roundly condemned in the media and several of the team’s top 3 players who were either black or mixed race left the team within a year via transfers they probably requested.
The team has never reached the heights it was at when Noades made these comments although he continued to be the owner until 1998 when he sold up and brought another club which he amazingly coached to promotion despite no coaching or playing experience.

Stiviano: So do you have to treat them like that too? DS: The white Jews, there’s white Jews and black Jews, do you understand? V: And are the black Jews less than the white Jews? DS: A hundred percent, fifty, a hundred percent. V: And is that right? DS: It isn’t a question – we don’t evaluate what’s right and wrong, we live in a society. We live in a culture. mikeyvthedonParticipantIt was a sad way of looking at the world. Think it is awful that racism like this exists in Israel, as it does all over the world. My only question is, how powerful is Donald Sterling? Does he control the world? Does everyone who is Jewish think like he does? In my personal opinion, the answer is no to the last two questions and Donald Sterling may be rich, though I do not see him as a world maker. It disgusts me that people think like he does and the way they treat the Black Jewish people.
I guarantee that a vast majority of Jewish people who watch or are involved in the NBA feel sickened by what he has said and what he believes in regard to race. You say this gives proof to a connection of "Jewish Supremacy", I say this is an old man who has a very old school way of looking at the world. His way of thinking may still be prevalent among some people, though I think that the vast majority of Jewish people I know are disgusted by his beliefs and what he was using to try and justify them.

70+% of US Jews support the Jewish Supremacist state of Israel. Because most white Jews apparently only really care when it is white Jews being treated like dogs. In which case they’ll call it the greatest human tragedy in history, and make 5 movies a year about it, and indoctrinate non-Jewish children into feeling guilty about it.
I’m glad you are one of the 30% that opposes Jewish supremacist governments, but please don’t run interference for the vast majority.

mikeyvthedonParticipantIf you felt the need to bring up the rest of this or the connection, I guess that is fine. However, what I really do not like is that you are grouping everything to what seems to be a full religious conspiracy. Plus you are trying to "fight against" other targets who I honestly believe are not of the same, old school mentality as Donald Sterling. You can believe whatever you would like, just found it rather sad that you are trying to get people to join what I believe is a conspiratorial crusade.
It is incredibly similar to the ignorant things that Donald Sterling is saying about a race. If you dislike all of the powerful Jewish figures, so be it. However, it seems very much that you are grouping everyone who is part of that religion or culture into the discussion, which I think is along the same lines of bigotry that indeed has been going after Donald Sterling for his comments.
Have really disliked Sterling for a long time, due to my knowledge of his stance on race before this came to light (not to mention his being a terrible owner of a basketball team). It really seems like you made this less about one basketball owners ignorance and than trying to use this as a platform to what I would deem as anti-semitic in agenda. Also being royally condescending and completely derailing a discussion about a solitary basketball owner.

“Overall, about seven-in-ten American Jews surveyed say they feel either very attached (30 percent) or somewhat attached (39 percent) to Israel, essentially unchanged since 2000-2001.”
The resilience of American Jews’ emotional attachment to Israel is remarkable in light of other trends identified in the Pew report. The survey finds that attachment declines from the oldest over-65 cohort (38 percent very attached) to the youngest cohort of 18-29-year-olds (25 percent very attached). Similar snapshots of American Jewry have led observers to erroneously conclude that attachment to Israel is declining with each passing generation.”
Let’s hope this positive trend continues and speeds up. You can play a powerful role if you choose to, but you will pay a high social price. Or you can keep quiet and perhaps enjoy the perks of the status quo. It all depends on where your heart is.

The Clippers players need listen to the rest of the tape, then protest and sit out at least one game to make a huge statement and force the national conversation that is long overdue and simply will be buried by the media and political and wall street overlords.

If I were in the situation of an active Clippers player I’m going to play and let it be known “I am playing for myself, my family, my friends, my city, my fans, and that I will not sell them short of what they all wanted to see me achieve from Day 1, whether a stand must be made or not. I know my self worth and integrity to myself as a man first and foremost.”
That would be my response in an interview setting. Now did I handle the situation accordingly in the public eye? If so, This is all that matters most!
BTW I say racist jokes whether the person is purple, blue, green etc. but it does not make me racist as a person because it’s NOT in my heart.

aramboneParticipantUgly Truth Behind Donald Sterling’s Racist Rant http://blogs.forward.com/forward-thinking/197236/ugly-truth-behind-donald-sterlings-racist-rant/
"My initial reaction was outrage and disgust. How dare this despicable human being lie about his fellow Jews and Israeli culture to hoodwink his girlfriend into believing that it is acceptable to mistreat black people? I was outraged. After all, black Jews are obviously not treated like dogs. White Jews do not really think that black Jews are less than white Jews. Preposterous! The nerve of that man! Then I realized that, while Sterling’s choice of words was inelegant and imprecise, he wasn’t lying. Too often, white Jews do treat black Jews poorly. We do have a bit of a race problem in our communities." Read more: http://blogs.forward.com/forward-thinking/197236/ugly-truth-behind-donald-sterlings-racist-rant/#ixzz30D3zJ8GG

The Palestinians living under worse-than-Jim Crow apartheid are not even mentioned. A culture of bigotry, destablizing the world and lobbying for endless wars and billions every year in hand-outs from American taxpayers.

aramboneParticipantDonald Sterling contacted his ex-girlfriend Sunday and asked her flatly, "How can we make this go away?" … sources connected with Sterling tell TMZ Sports. Our sources say … Sterling is keenly aware V. Stiviano is in possession of more than 100 hours of recordings … some of which are extremely damaging to Sterling’s reputation. Our sources say Stiviano told Sterling to call her lawyer … and thereby opened the door to settlement discussions. It’s obvious the incentive for Sterling is to make sure the rest of the tapes never see the light of day.
