What do you think of a trade between Cavs and Magic on the draft day. Cavs acquire 3rd pick, 12th pick, top-8 protected 2016 first round pick and Mo Harkless. Magic acquire Kyire Irving and Tristan Thompson. Kyrie-Dion combo is leading the Cavs nowhere and a change is urgent. As for the Magic – they need a PG and Kyrie is the best ticket seller they could hope. Cavs rebuild real quick and look forward with Wiggins/Embliid to complement Dion and other 2 young players (9th and 12 th picks). Magic will have a young starting five of: Kyrie, Oladipo, Tobias Harris, Tristan Thompson and Vucevic. I think this should happen. Both sides get their benefit.

     1. Why would the Cavs trade their best player for a prospect? Even a great one like Wiggins/Parker/Embiid…

    2. Why take Wiggins when the Magic give you Harkless? Clearly the Cavs would need a PG-PF-C

They’d be far more likely to burn down the arena if Kyrie leaves and they get nothing in return. If all he wants to do is sign a one year qualifier to make himself an unrestricted free agent in 2016, I think that the writing would be on the wall for them. Hell, I think it’s pretty obvious that he wants out anyway. The Cavs have offered him a max extension and he has decided not to accept it. What could he be waiting on (especially with his injury history) unless he wants to leave?

I don’t envy the position that the Cavs are in . Kyrie Irving is a tremendous talent, but i am starting to fear that he has some fatal flaws and ultimately doesn’t want to be there anymore.

He is worth a max contract, but I’m not sure that he is the type of guy that you want as your best player long term, and the team isnt really good enough to be paying max contracts yet. He is a star, but is he the kind of star that other stars are going to want to play with?

They have really been hampered by poor drafting in recent years. Its a pity since they had some real lottery luck and didnt make good choices and that is going to be hard to overcome in the end.

Kyrie Irving is a star of stars! He’s the only marketable player on the CAVS team. If he leaves that’s one thing. He’s still a RFA he can’t leave until 16 at the earliest.

But if he gets Traded? That’s another. If they trade him and he goes to a team like let’s say Magic since you brought it up. If he goes there and they make the playoffs next year and get out the first rd, let’s say MAVS pick is #1. You draft wiggins and he’s very timid and CAVS win 20 games. People will get fired. No one wants to take that risk. People Tank for Kyrie Irving level talent. CAVS don’t want to take anymore and if they do fibd their idiots.

I personally think Victor Oladipo is better suited as a wing than a PG, but considering how productive Afflalo has been and how much they like Tobias Harris, it looks like Orlando wants to keep ‘Dipo at PG. They are still deciding whether or not they want to pick up the final year of 32-year-old Jameer Nelson’s partially-guaranteed contract. Even if they retain Nelson, they’ll probably bring him off the bench in favor of Oladipo. So acquiring a point guard doesn’t seem very likely.

If the Magic’s pick lands in the 3-5 range, I see them taking Julius Randle. For them, he is a good intersection of the best-player-available strategy and the fill-a-need strategy.

The Magic have held onto Afflalo to showcase him and build his market value for an inevitable trade. They seem to believe that they can get another good draft pick and possibly more for him. Needless to say, I doubt he is on the roster next season, which makes Kyrie a legitimate trade target.

Would the twolves trade thier first round pick 13-14 and Barea(cap number) + fillers for Afflalo and a couple seconds.  A line up of Rubio-Martin-Afflalo-Love-Pekovic is pretty solid.  Afflalo will help space the floor and be able to be a solid defender.

Aaron Afflalo is one of the league’s elite perimeter defenders and perimeter shooters, that routinely gets 20ppg and 4apg. You got to come better than that. If he was on a winning team, he’d be an indisputable all-star.

If he was on a winning team he wouldn’t be getting enough shots to average 20 ppg.  Let’s not over state what he is, he made his biggest leap as the best player on the 3rd worst team in the league.

He would be a great 3rd option for a championship team though, but he is more of a complimentary player, never going to be an all star.

Umm, how about the other 2 gaurd on his own team?!?! Every team in the league would take Dipo over Afflalo. And he has never scored 20ppg in a season. Lance Stephenson is better by far as well. And there’s probably a handful over other guys who would get looks over Afflalo. Klay Thompson, gordan Hayward, Jamal Crawford… You are overvalue ing him quite a bit.

You’re grasping at straws and simply trying to name every credible SG in the league. None of them are better than Afflalo. A few months prior, I would have thought that Lance Stephenson could lay claim to that title but I think it has become fairly evident that the guy is unreliable and a head case. There is a reason why the Pacers traded for Evan Turner and I suspect it is to be insurance in the event that Stephenson fancies himself as someone that deserves all-star money.

Well Kobe and Wade will be starters in the all star game until they retire, they just have too many fans.

My point was that Afflalo is having a career year on an awful team, somebody had to score points for them.   He’s 28 so he’s already firmly in his prime.  Players usually don’t make big statistical Leaps at or past this age.

If for instance he was on the Thunder there is no way he would put up 20 ppg.  I’m thinking 15 max.

Actually, I would love for you to list a contending team in which he would average 20 points a game because I can’t think of one.

You could just as easily make the argument that it is more difficult to score 20ppg on a bad team because it is easier for defenses to zero in on a particular player. That being said, I don’t buy your argument that Afflalo’s performance is somehow diminished because of his poor team. The fact is that whether he has been on a winner or loser, he has consistently put up efficient offensive numbers and impacted the game in a multitude of ways.  He’s no superstar but a star, he definitely is.

And when did averaging 20ppg become a pre-requisite to being consider a star or all-star? Dwayne Wade made it averaging just 18ppg. Joe Johnson made it averaging 15.8ppg.

The original premise that either Kyrie or Dion needs to go is flawed.  That said, if the organization thinks Kyrie is on his way out (and there’s been no legitimate information to that end) then of course you look to deal him.

Getting the 3rd pick in this draft is a pretty good starting point, and I think Orlando is giving fair value here.  I think the Cavaliers seriously consider this deal, assuming the guy I want is there at #3.  I’d pull the trigger.

It says here that Kyrie would be excited if Cleveland offered him an extension, however that doesn’t necessarily mean he’d agree to it.

    http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/04/17/kyrie-irving-would-be-excited-if-cavaliers-offer-max-contract-extension/

Trading Kyrie wouldn’t be a good move, especially for draft picks (even in this draft) and Harkless. Kyrie is a superstar and a player you build around. Point guards with his talent level don’t come around often and when they do, you do whatever it takes to hang on to them as long as possible. I understand that both parties have to be on the same page for an extension.

If I was the Cavs gm, I would look at trading Waiters before Kyrie. Waiters seems like a tool and I don’t think him and Kyrie can co-exist. Two ball dominant guards in the backcourt is rarely a recipe for success.

Cleveland has some talent. Kyrie is their cornerstone, Tristan is a solid big man, if you bring back Hawes he’s a good big to stretch the floor, I still believe Bennett will turn it around as well. Add in their draft pick at 9 and maybe bring in someone via free agency and they’re looking like a playoff team again.

I think Bennett is really going to suprise people next year since he will be motivated to come into next year in shape.  He already showed great form with his shot…  in shape he will be able to run the floor and work harder on the boards.
