What do you feel about him heading into the Draft?

What is your projected range for him?

Which situation would be best suited for him within his range?

If he slides how far will the drop be?

I’ve recently stated that Marcus Smart will be a ROY contender and is one of the most NBA-Ready prospects in the draft. I think he could be the first guard drafted if GM’s are nervous about Exum so around 4-7 if he’s the first guard, but as low as 10 if he’s the second guard.

He’ll get a lot of counting stats but also brick a lot of 3’s in his rookie year. I think he’ll have a season similar to Tyreke Evan’s Rookie year which was fantastic. I see him being a fringe all-star during his prime.

Best situation: Starting PG with wing players who can space the floor with their 3pt shooting.

I didn’t elaborate enough on the best situation. I meant which team.

I have him in the 4-8 range, and no way he can fall out of top 10 imo.

Orlando might be the best situation for him, and I think if they don’t have a top 3 pick Smart might be their guy.

In his range if I had to choose in order where I would like to see him land it would be… Orlando, LA, Sacramento

Not a fan for a few reasons.

    1.  No true position.  Not a pure PG by any stretch of the imagination, and is a terrible shooter so really not an ideal SG.

    2.  Maturity issues.  No explanation needed…

    3.  Poor decision maker.  High turnover rate.  Takes really bad shots and makes highly questionable passes.

    4.  Won’t be able to bulldog through defenders in the NBA like he did in college.

    5.  Although he’s a good athlete, his athleticism isn’t going to standout in the NBA.

My NBA comparison for him, a more athletic Tyreke Evans.  To me, he’s more of a 6th man type combo guard who will play good defense.  He won’t be anyone to rely on as a first, second, or even third option on offense.  I will say I like his toughness and his bulldog nature, but that will only get him so far.

I really feel he will go anywhere from 3-6. I feel that this he will be one of the stars of this draft. He really has great court vision (which IMO is pretty underrated on here), and he has the killer instinct of a Russell Westbrook. I think hes gonna surprise alot of people in the NBA…..

He’s going to be productive immediately, but he’s going to take time to be efficient. He’s too physically dominant and aggressive to not be productive. I think he will BE a high stats, low FG% season in his 1st year or 2, but I also feel he’s going to Orlando and will have a chance to really handle the ball alot immediately. Look for him to be top 3 in the ROY ballot next season.

Him and Dipo would really be a tough defensive backcourt.

I think Smarts vision is underrated.  He might be turnover prone but he improved it in his 2nd year while also upping his usage rate.  I think he will continue to improve that but maybe not his rookie year.

I am of the minority I believe but I think he will do fine as a PG.  What we used to call a combo guard is the modern day PG.  Jamal Crawford is a combo guard. Not really looking to pass but may pick up a few assists attacking the hole.

I think Smart will be able to play and defend both guard positions… Offensively I think he creates a mismatch is at the 1.

my projected range for him is around 6-12

he’s such an incredible defender, i feel he’ll have a long career just with that.

now, as a true floor general, i have my questions. he’s a awlful shooter with questionable shot selection. he doesnt posses elite vision and makes alot of bone headed dcisions with the ball.

but he has a good phyisque, great defender, athletic enough, and just a bulldog. at worst, he’s your 3rd guard off the bench thats going to defend great and be able to give you a spark.

Any team could pick him wnd I wouldnt be mad at them. He will be one of the best PG’s in the league and borderline allstar from day one. I see him going anywhere from 3-7.

I am not a fan of him being a high lottery pick. Is too inconsistent. Not a true pg or sg for that matter. Turns the ball over way to much. He averaged 3.4 turnovers per game this year, to only 4.2 assists per game. He only shot 29% from the three point mark too. I feel like with his size and athleticsm he never got to the rim enough, and settled for jumpers. 35% of his shots were 3’s, which is not good when you shoot 29%.

The part of his game i like the most is on the other end of the court. Feel like he creates of havoc on the defensive end, and that should translate well to the NBA. But still at 6’4 he will have some challenges if he was to guard a 2.

Also, just want to mention that the whole fan incident this year was so blown out of proportion. If that was a mid-major game Valpo vs Evansville, it would have received no attention. That would not factor in my decision of drafting Marcus Smart of not.
