Where would the best destination for Greg Monroe be? I think he would be a perfect fit with Philadelphia. They have plenty of cap room to make a ridiculous offer that Detroit would have to pass on and I think he would be an almost perfect fit eith Noel. For the record his perfect fit would be next to Drummond minus Josh Smith but Detroit butchered that. Any thoughts or a better situation then a core of MCW, Wiggins/Parker, Monroe, Noel.

Detroit is his best fit… the Smith signing was a disaster. If I were Detroit, I’d shop Smith rather than Monroe, but his contract is practically untradeable unless they take back some horrible deal as well or give up draft picks. I think Philly would be a great fit for Monroe. I’d imagine the Lakers would go after someone like him if they think they won’t be able to get Love. The Heat are actually a possibility if they don’t bring back all of the big 3. The Suns and Wizards are other possibilities. He’ll be a hot commodity this summer, guys with his skillset don’t grow on trees.

Agree, but the thing is Detroit will not be able to get rid of Smith with his ridiculous contract.

He’s a 15 and 8 guy who’s a minus defender. Someone might give him the max, but he probably won’t be worth it. But next to a guy like Noel he’d fit perfectly :/

more people realized that he just isn’t worth the max.  Watching him try to defend is as painful as it is watching Smith play offense at SF.

Washington could be a good fit. If they don’t re-sign gortat, they will have a big hole in the front court and Nene at this point is not reliable to play 82 games with his injury history. Wall, Beal, Monroe could be a nice trio

I was thinking Washington but they have 45 mil invested into 6 players next gear without resigning Ariza or Gortat. Nene is penciled in at 13-mil for two more years. Its a great fit considering hes a Washington/Georgetown boy other then that it doesnt make much sense.

But I’d play him at C with Noel playing PF, I feel both players benefit more by playing the other’s postion on Offense/Defense

The PF’s in the NBA are getting faster by the day and Noel would be a better defender in those situations

Monroe can hold his own at C for a majority of the game, then Moultrie and Noel give him relief there if he needs it…

My ideal 2014/2015 Lineup would include Monroe as the starting Center

    Starters

    PG-MCW

    SG-James Young/Zach Lavine via Pelican’s pick

    SF-Jabarri Parker/Andrew Wiggins via 76ers pick

    PF-Nerlens Noel

    C-Greg Monroe via Fre Agency

    6th Man-Thad Young

    Bench G-T.Wroten F/C-A.Moultrie

The 32nd and 39th picks plus 2 Mid Level Veterans

D’Antoni wants athletic guys who run the floor and space the floor. I’m sure they’d take him if he were at a discount, but he’s definitely not who they’d target.

But I think the perfect place would be the Sac Kings since they’re going to play at a slow pace anyway. They have to feed Cousins the ball and Rudy goes 1 on 1 a lot. Having a 4 that can hit a 15 footer and grab boards would be ideal. Also, being able to pass from the high post will enable Boogie to get better looks.

The Pistons issues are Greg Monroe. They play too much of a slow pace game for inefficient scorers in the half court. The way that team is built, they should play an up-tempo style of offense. Mikey D would make them a playoff team (and I hate him) I think. Josh would be much better at the 4 and Andre at the 5. Give Brandon Jennings a chance to go crazy in that style of offense and you’ll see major production from him (don’t believe me? Look at what that offense did for every PG in it- Nash was a 2 time MVP, Linsanity?, Chris Duhon holds the most assists in a game for NYK, and Kendall Marshall this year?).

He’s a tough fit for many teams, because he’s at the same time a weak defender and he has no range. So he mostly has to play at center on offense, unless you have a shooting 5 (and none of those guys are good protecting the rim usually), which is rare, and that way it takes a lot of creativity on his coach to build his defense in order to hide a 5 who’s a liability on defense (somehow Clifford manage to do that with Big Al in Charlotte). But at the same time if you play him at 4 your team is really exposed against smaller opponents playing a stretch 4 or a combo forward and it might mess up spacings on offense. Still there’s a lot to like about his game, he has good hands, he’s smart, can pass the ball, he can score on the low block (though he’s mostly a volume scorer and not that efficient). He understands the game and that makes you believe that even if he’s never going to be a good rim protector, he can at least become a good team defender, improving his timing on rotations and his grasp of defensive schemes. But the scary thing is that he seems to be the same player he was two years ago, I can’t think of anything he’s improved on in the last two seasons.

I don’t know, maybe playing for Memphis next to Gasol would be perfect for him, but Z-Bo will be there for at least another year. If the Warriors didn’t have David Lee he could be a less efficient version of the former Gator (though Lee has some mid range shot). Atlanta is another possible fit for him, but again, they already have Halford and Millsap and he won’t be an upgrade over either. I think he’ll likely end up on a bad/average team with lot of cap space that will go after him having missed the most coveted free agents and he will provide his scoring ability there. I’d be very surprised if Philly even shows some interest in him.

wanting to avoid paying Monroe the max, I would do a sign-and-trade of Monroe to ATL for Korver and Millsap.  Pistons really need to get the most out of Monroe this offseason.

The best fit for Monroe – and its not even close – is New Orleans. Davis allows him to play the 5 without needing to anchor the D, and Davis’ ability to stretch the floor allows Greg more room in the paint. Add in the fact that he’s a Louisiana native and there’s no question it’s the best fit. Hell, if they did a sign and trade for Anderson to Detroit then everybody wins.

I could see that… But I don’t know if NO is ready to do that yet. I think they’re waiting for everyone to get healthy and see where that takes them…. Giving up a stretch 4 like Anderson will not give Davis the floor space he needs. It’s already bad enough with the lack of shooters on the team. I was reading an article about how good Anthony Davis is and it broke down his game. Currently what he doesn’t need to someone to clog the lane and force him to be a secondary player to Monroe’s post game.

NO doesn’t have enough cap room and anyway I don’t think it’s a good fit at all, you want Davis paired with someone who stays away and leaves the paint open for him to destroy everyone and everything with the pick and roll or taking opposing big men off the dribble. Monroe makes a living at the elbow and in the low block, he’s going to clog the lanes. Also, Davis still has to prove he can really stretch the floor, he had decent numbers shooting from the mid range, but he’s not elite yet. I expect him to improve, but it’s still to prove. Also, do you really want the Brow to spot up and shoot 18 to 20 footers?

On the defensive end Davis has great tools and he will become outstanding, but at this point he’s not able to anchor a denfese and make it better. There are good chances he will eventually become that kind of player, but he’s not there yet.

I said this would be the best fit for Monroe, not Davis. New Orleans is perfectly positioned to get the most out of Greg Monroe, but doing so might not be the best thing for Davis.

That said, it’s not as bad for Davis as you’re all making it out to be.

As far as PFs like Davis needing a C who will "clear the lane" and all that crap, I’d like to point you in the direction of Dirk when they won the championship alongside Chandler, a dude with NO outside shooting ability, or Garnett playing alongside Perkins when they won the championship.

There’s no reason why you’d want both of your big men floating on the perimeter, having a guy inside to bang and go for offensive rebounds, get fouled and score on the block is a good thing for PFs like Davis.

If Davis was a straight up post-player then I’d see why he might have a problem with Monroe, but he’s not, he’s a face-up 4 who can post at times.

Also, as far as cap space goes, I mentioned the sign and trade for Anderson, who has had trouble staying healthy his whole career.

Chicago could make a play. They’ve been clearing room, and with Thibs, they were the best defensive team in the league while giving Korver and Boozer major minutes a few years ago. They’re a team that can operate with a post scorer, and one that will get the most out of a player defensively, and be able to hide where he falls short.

I don’t think it’ll be long before Taj Gibson is considered the better player. He’s probably already there considering his defensive impact. Gibson’s per 36 numbers are very impressive, and I see him having a breakout season when he gets the starting nod. Chicago would be better suited going for a star wing player who can really score to pair with their suffocating post defense, and Rose when he comes back.

While Chicago can hide bad defense, they can go the other way and maximize their abilities with guys who are actually good defensively like Gibson, which is why he gets way more 4th quarter minutes than Boozer (Gibson averages about double Boozers playing time in 4th quarters).

I don’t think it’s a terrible idea but I see a lot of similarities with Boozer and Monroe and I think it would be kind of a stagnant move.
