WCS returns to UK.

It’s such a unique situation when one chooses Kentucky. Now their gonna have a frontcourt with 4 McDonalds All-Americans and WCS who was good enough to be one. Not sure how it’s going to work with WCS, Towns, Lyles, Johnson and Lee. Honestly think the best decision for Dakari would be to transfer but most players especially blue chip recruits aren’t patient enough to sit out a whole year. Wouldn’t be a bad option for Lee either.

Next year Kentucky is loaded among bigs, he will have to face really tough competition and if he doesn’t make a huge step ahead in his game he might kills his stock. Well, of course Dakari hasn’t said anything yet on whether he’s coming back or not and at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s considering the idea. He’s probably a bubble first rounder and not ready at all, but coming back might hurt him even more. Still, they have two top ten recruits coming in and Marcus Lee (who might have thrown his tv/laptop/phone/whatever he used to know about WCS out of the window). Also, funny how the Wildcats are going to be incredibly loaded with big man but really poor in the backcourt, if Harrisons and Young all leave. That’s what happens when you rely too much on potential one and doners.

Trey Lyles should have just stayed committed to Indiana. People always get on Tom Creans case but he got his players to play to thier potential. Maybe not with Vonleh this year but maybe Vonleh needs to take some responsibility for that.

Most of u guys criticize one and done or early entry and then when one Cal’s guys stays u call him stupid. Make up ur minds already. Man the Cal hate is STRONG. A Cal player with a 3.0 stays to get his degree and improve his stock AND to win a chip and u idiots guys cry. Hmmm… sounds suspect.

Wow! This is crazy!  I actually thought him and Randle were the only locks to declare. 

As a UK fan, I’m excited because I love watching him play but there has to be some transfers or declares to come.  They are loaded at the 4 and 5 spots next year.  Lee, WCS, Dakari, Lyles, Towns, and Poythress who can play both 3 and 4.   

I say Dakari pulls a stunner and declares.  That leaves Lee and Lyles to rotate the 4 and Towns and WCS to rotate the 5.  If not, things will be interesting.

 He’ll still be a starter next year did you see how Cal was subbing the last three tournament games. He was managing his big men minutes pretty well. 

If twins come back and if Jabari Parker leaves (that’s a big if at this point) UK will definitely be the #1 ranked team next year. And any word on James Young? Imagine all them coming back. UK will be scary next year if he does.

 I’m a little disappointed, because if the Celtics aren’t lucky enough to land Joell Embiid with their lottery pick, I was hoping they could pick up WCS with their second pick. We need a big, athletic, front court player who can block shots and defend the rim.

 UK needs the twins back.  They loose those two guys and they have to rely strictly on Ullis and Booker.  Front court is great but not nearly as effective without guards.  I wouldn’t be surprisedmif you see Dakari Johnson test the waters.  I personally think he is a better long term pro prospect compared to WCS.

 Good news if your a Kentucky fan if the team manages not to lose their frontcourt to transfers and/or declarations, bad news for Dakari Johnson, Trey Lyles and Karl Towns and Marcus Lee.  This year was supposed to be Dakari Johnson and Marcus Lee’s breakout year and now minutes are going to be tough to come by if they stay with upperclassmen coming back and freshman coming in.  

 Then again, maybe Kentucky is trying to set an example here in that it doesn’t matter how much talent they accumulate, what matters is they want to win a championship.  I can imagine WCS getting so close to a championship and then not being able to help his teammates over the hump was taken in to consideration in his decision to return.  It’s not a good move for WCS as an NBA prospect, but it’s a great move for Kentucky’s basketball team moving forward next season. No team in the nation is going to be able to top their frontcourt.

He’s being talked about in the 25-35 range right now, and unlike a lot of UK players, he’s not riding a stock bump due to his final 4 play because he was hurt. This isn’t a PJII or Sully situation where a coulple guys that are easy to pick apart forgo a lotto pick in a weak draft to ender a harder draft a year later. This is a raw as hamburger dude, who’s stock has slipped in a big way since Noel tore his ACL over a year ago.

Willie has NBA size and a trait that will not grow out of favor. Rim protection. He maybe hasn’t progressed on the offensive end the way many had hoped, but he got better at what he does best. WCS blocked .8 more shots per game in the same amount of minutes, with about the same amount of fouls. He also raised his FT percentage 11 points, for a barf worthy 37, to an awful 48, if he can raise it 10 more points his junior year…

WCS could have a season, based on his freshman to sophomore improvement, where he blocks over 3 shots and is close to a 60 % free throw shooter, which, sadly, is pretty decent for a young center prospect.

I don’t think he’s going to really raise his stock to being a lotto pick again, but I certainly think he can lock himself in the 14-20 range with a solid Junior season. 

If you’re gonna get mad at him for passing up the money, then you should have been pissed a year ago when he would have gone in the lotto in a weak draft as a Frosh, but coming back for his Junior year, I think can be a positive thing for him.
