TenSecondTomParticipantThis is my second crack at a mock draft; I have left my analysis of all the picks in there as well. I have left out players like Mario Hezonja, the Harrison twins, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Dakari Johnson etc. due to the fact that I do not think they will declare this year. I also made these picks from the perspective of the teams; these picks do not reflect who I would necessarily take in the situation. Let me know what you think, enjoy!

ChewyParticipantLaVine at 24 and Payne at 27 are grossly underrated in my opinion.
I think LaVine’s size, athletisism and shooting form will make someone take a chance on him in the top 15.
I think Payne’s shooting will make him a great stretch 4 who still have toughness and will help on the boards, someone will take him top 20. I don’t see how the Bulls pass him with one of their two picks They took Gibson as a senior with a late 1st, they could do the same with Payne. Remember we still have N Mohammed on our roster, so we could easily use his spot for another big.

Maputo88ParticipantI think Capela has a low BBIQ so would prefer Elfrid Peyton if available or Harrel as a pf candidate. Asle really big on Jarnell Stokes as a solid pf

JoeWolf1I like WCS in Houston too. Asik isn’t happy, and I’d be he gets moved this eventually. Willie may not be ready to contribute right away, but he has some real potential as a defensive minded backup. Houston is both trying to win now, and to build a team capable of having a multiple year run as a contender, and can they afford to take a guy who may be ready to contribute in 2 or 3 years, in hope that he’s ready to jump in and play a role when his time comes. Learning defensive tips from D12 could really help his transition too.
I doubt Harrell drops as far as you, and many think he will at this time. He was about a 17 and 9 player the 2nd half of the season, and despite being a tad on the short end, he has a monster wingspan and both strength and athletic ability that will impress people in the combine and in individual workouts. I’d be surprised to see him drop past 20, but thats just my two cents…pretty solid mock overall.

thunderjerkParticipantThey’re tied with Boston and the Celtics swept the Jazz this year so they’re looking at the fourth spot right now. I fully expect them to pick either Exum or Smart and play either of them at the two with Burke and Hayward. I could see them trading Kanter and GS’s pick to get back into the lottery, too.

TenSecondTomParticipantI would not be surprised to see Napier in the first round and I think he will be a very good player in the league but I kept him out of the first in this mock due to the depth at PG in this draft… Exum, Smart, Micic, Payton, and Ennis. As good I think Napier will be in the NBA the only one out of that group that I see underperforming Napier is Payton maybe. Also, it becomes a question of how many teams need PG’s that badly this summer. I have him late-first VERY early second at the worst.
I was just reading in to Capela and how he somewhat struggled at the summit game so I could see them picking Harrell too. I agree Stokes is good but I believe he becomes a casualty of the depth in the 2014 draft and goes early 2nd.
I have differing opinions of LaVine and Payne; I really do not like LaVine and I love Payne. As far as their positions in my draft, I think LaVine could go much much higher with some good workouts. Payne again is going to have problems cracking top 15-19 because of his age and depth in the draft; he will contribute right away, but his potential may be limited, and teams drafting early aren’t looking to add a piece to the cog; they are trying to find the foundation of the cog. You mention the Bulls not passing up Payne and I would agree with you 100% if they know that Mirotic will not be coming over this year, which they will by the time the draft rolls around.
WCS that low would be a blessing in disguise and maybe it happens. He would be able to develop in to a premier defensive center in the Tyson Chandler mold if he were to learn the ropes from a guy like Dwight Howard.

TenSecondTomParticipantAt 4, I would’ve had them taking Exum in a heartbeat. Interesting scenario with Kanter btw; it would allow them to be in place to get McDermott, Saric, Hood, Anderson to fill Heyward’s spot.

Sewok15ParticipantI would find it hard to believe the Pistons would pass on Gary Harris at 8. He has much more upside than Doug and while Doug would fit more of a need at SF he can’t defend anyway so drafting another shooting guard (after KCP last year who had a disappointing rookie year) would be fine for me. Monroe is a restricted FA so maybe they don’t match the offer sheet he inevitably signs or maybe they do and trade Smith for a SF that can stretch the floor (Maybe Gallinari…especially if Denver wants to trade Faried). I like the Mock for the most part as somebody else said LaVine is too low with his major upside but other than that no major complaints. You seem to know more about the international players than I do so I can’t really say where I think many of those guys will go outside of Exum.

HomerKangParticipantIf the Sixers take Saric at 10, they will lose me as a loyal, paying-for-over-two-decades fan automatically (yes, I grew up a Sixers fan since the late 70’s). Anyway, according to your draft board, if Rodney Hood is still available there, I would take him, or Stauskas, or even Adreian Payne (100 times over) before I’d consider such a silly pick as Saric. Could you imagine a starting lineup of:
* Adreian Payne (PF)
* Thad Young ( SF )
* Nerlens Noel ( C )
* Andrew Wiggins ( SG )
* MCW ( PG )
This lineup can run and score with the best of ’em.

Sewok15ParticipantThat lineup could run with anybody but they wouldn’t instantly be one of the best scoring teams in the league. Thad Young would still be their best scorer and he hasn’t really played much 3 the last 3+ seasons. He can do it because he is versatile enough defensively and has more confidence is his outside shot than ever but he is best utilized at the 4 using his speed against bigger defenders. Unless they find a way to trade up and get Randle or Vonleh I think Thad should be starting at 4 next year.
I would like to see the Sixers take a SG with the Pelican’s pick and James Young would be a great fit. He hits big shots and is long and athletic. He thrives playing off the ball and has nice defensive potential as well. If you matched him with Wiggins and MCW you would be one of the longest most athletic teams on the wing for years to come.
