Tom Thibodeau has done an incredible job as the Bulls coach, leading a team with minimal talent to the 3rd or 4th seed in the East. Imagine if you stuck an average coach on this team, they may not make the playoffs with Deng and Rose, but with Thibs, they are East contenders.

I think Pop and Thibs are easily 1,2 in terms of the best NBA coaches. I mean Thibs defense is incredible,

Also, here is a 5 minute video where I breakdown one of their defensive concepts ICE.

Personally if I was an NBA owner I would probably prefer him as a coach for about 26 of the 30 teams. For my money he is my favorite coach and the best in the NBA.

I mean outside of Miami, San Antonio, Golden State and maybe Houston having Thibs as the coach (instead of the current coach, either because of fit or system) would have made every other team in the NBA 3 to 15 games better. If Pop coached the Cavs or the Magic they would still suck and if Thibs coached them they be 8 seeds or better. Just think about that. Lebron should make 50 million a season at least in a fair market and Thibs should make at least 15, IMO.

As a side note I think G.S. and Houston would recieve the same bump for George Karl.

Style or no style, Thibs is a far better coach than McHale or Jackson, so I think he would be a better coach for those teams as well.

I don’t know if Thibs supresses offence some or Chicago just doesn’t have shooters. Plus some of Thibs defensive abilities would be negated by the likes of Harden, Curry, Lee and Thompson among others that simply hate defense. Not even Thibs could make Lee servicable or Harden care.

How does Thibs surpress offense? Do you know who the Bulls have on their roster? He has reinvented the offense through almost a collegiate level system of screening and cutting, and he’s running it through Joakim Noah! The Bulls best offensive player is a guy who couldn’t even hold down a backcourt job on a contender last year, and was cut by the Raptors this year in Augustin. Their 2nd best offensive player, Boozer, is such a detrimit to the team in other ways he only plays the first and third quarter every game. If he had Harden and Parsons, or Curry and Thompson, the offense would look completely different. There is also no evidence what so ever Jackson is an offensive coach, the Warriors actually were a better scoring team before Jackson was their, while Jackson’s arrival improved their defense.

And to your point about Thibs not being able to make Lee servicable or Harden care…so what? Thibs runs a defensive system that can compensate for poor defenders. Remember, a year ago he was getting major minutes from Boozer, Bellinelli, and Robinson, who are all subpar defenders, and still with Noah, Gibson, and Butler was able to make that a 2nd round team with it’s defense. If you gave him Howard or Bogut, he would construct a defense around those guys that would be effective.

Maybe they wouldn’t be as good as the Bulls, but there is no doubt in my mind he would have those teams in a better place than McHale or Jackson does.

When I read the title I thought this was about Jeff Hornaceck and the Phoenix Suns. That poor man doesn’t get enough credit. If they make the playoffs, Coach ‘Horny is my choice for coach of the year. Even if they don’t make the playoffs he should get consideration as they are in the stacked west and they could get 50 wins and still miss the playoffs!

Also, props to Mike Budenholzer  for leading the hawks to their 7th straight playoff apperance. That guy is a master coaching in the offensive end. I mean, he makes a team who just lost Al Horford, dealt with a bunch of injuries the whole year and who starts Demarre Carrol, Pero Antic, and Kyle Korver look really good. (Not discounting the abilities of those players but they definitely would be better suited as role players) And aside from Lou Williams, the guy has a bunch of d-leaguers coming off the bench. Put Mike Brown in that situation and who knows what would happen lol.

Stop the press! Did the mighty heat tank against the hawks?

It’s a little too convenient that the hawks beat the heat to clinch the 8th seed. That would mean the heat don’t have to play the knicks in the 1st round.

I honestly don’t know how much (if any) the Heat fear the knicks, but I get the feeling they’d feel more comfortable against the hawks. But enough to tank??

Steve Clifford has done a great job at Charlotte this year and Jeff Hornaceck has had an amazing year at Phoenix even if they do miss the play offs after blowing a couple of big leads.

Coach Thibs preaches hard work and defence very much like Coach Poppovich and also how Larry Brown used to. So if you put him onto any losing team he’d improve them just through making them work hard and as a team. When you look at say the Knicks roster, it makes you wonder what a Thibs type coach could do there theoretically.
