Smart decision.  No point in him playing hurt in meaningless games.  Can’t wait to see how AD does next year.  He could be right on the verge of superstardom.

Injuries are a bit of concern for Anthony Davis and his fans right now.  Injuries are pretty much the only thing that can stop him.

I compared him to Pervis Ellison, who was a guy who struggled with injuries throughout his career.

AD’s second season is very similar to Pervis Ellison’s relatively healthy 3rd season:

    Pervis Ellison:  66 games, 64 starts.  .539 FG%  .728 FT%.  20 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 0.9 steals, and 2.7 blocks.

    Anthony Davis: 67 games, 66 starts.  .519 FG%.  .791 FT%.  20.8 points, 10 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals, 2.8 blocks.

I would have to look up how many guys did what AD just did as a second year player.  I doubt many have.  20 and 10 with nearly 3 blocks is pretty special.

    Ok, how about this?

Anthony Davis’ second year stats again:

    Anthony Davis: 67 games, 66 starts.  .519 FG%.  .791 FT%.  20.8 points, 10 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.3 steals, 2.8 blocks.

    TIM DUNCAN’s second year stats: 50 games started (strike year).  .495 FG%.  .690 FT%.  21.7 points, 11.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 0.9 steals, 2.5 blocks.

So Anthony Davis stacks up well with Tim Duncan, the guy who will go down in history as the best power forward ever.

Anthony Davis projects as one of the game’s ELITE players and looks like a guy who will take home an MVP award one of these days.

I think that in terms of growth, Duncan’s comparison is good. Duncan had longer in college, compared to Davs, but his opening NBA season was lockout shortened.

However, Duncan got to learn the game from the greats (David Robinson & Pops) & wherever you place him on your list, is, in my mind, #1 in maximising a successful career (longevity, success, off-court, as a leader and a team-mate).

I believe that Davis has the attitude to improve that is required & definitely comes across as a high IQ/character guy, but is he going to be able to surround himself with the organisation that Duncan was in order to maximise it?

Out for the season sounds a lot worse than will miss the final 4 games. I really hope the Pelicans can grab a top 3 pick in this years draft.

It’s not like we are in December.  This is just a smart move by a team protecting an obvious superstar from getting further injured in meaningless games…while likely also improving their chances a bit to move up a notch in a loaded draft.  Just make sure he’s healthy to play alongside Jrue, Gordon and whatever they can find in the draft.

They will most likely lose their first rounder (top 5 protected)to the sixers, unless extremely lucky and get a top 3 pick.

Great stats and good points. But one thing in comparing these guys using per game stats is they didn’t play the same number of minutes. In the years you use, Duncan was playing 39 minutes per game and Never Nervous Pervis was playing 38. AD is putting up the same numbers in 35 minutes. So take AD’s stats and increase them by about 10% if you want to compare them to Pervis and Duncan. And a straight increase is probably fare because those extra 3-4 minutes are much more likely to be minutes against bench guys then starters. AD will be more tired playing more minutes, but his competition goes down a bit when gets more run against other team’s second units.

The guy is a star now and I agree that MVP is a possibility. Though the MVP voters tend to really like the scorers and if Davis tops out at 25 points per game in a league with a few guys flirting with 30, he might be on the outside looking in.
