Every year there are a few prospects who should absolutely go to the draft due to a combination of stock being high and risk of (over)exposure the following season. Examples of guys from last year who fit this criteria: The Michigan trio: Trey Burke (magic run with him as the catalyst lead to super crushes from scouts), Mitch McGary (would’ve been a mid 1st rounder with an outside shot at the end of the lottery, is old for his class and was always going to struggle without Burke to create for him) and GR3 (likely mid 1st rounder last year, came back and failed to show major improvement and now sees his stock in flux).

Considering only their likely draft position, who should make the jump now, regardless of readiness?

I’m going with DeAndre Daniels of UCONN. For 3 years he has only shown flashes of the potential he showed in HS, but durring this UCONN run he has been huge on the glass while also shooting pretty well from outside (obviously not so much tonight). I can’t imagine if he came back for his SR year he’d be able to play at this level for he entire year without Napier. If he can shoot well in workouts he has a shot to go at the back end of the 1st round

Aaron Gordon- The longer he stays the more scouts will pick at his game. Chad Ford has him at #6, which is a joke to me, but strike while the irons hot or else he’ll end up like McAdoo.

I read the comparison with McAdoo everywhere and it makes no sense at all. McAdoo barely played in his freshman season and was considered a candidate for a lottery pick in 2013 only based on his HS hype and on expectation that he showed some improvements. But other than his physical tools he had never shown anything that suggested he could find a niche in the league. Gordon was a starter and a very solid contributor for a team that had a great season and made a deep run in the tourney and he had a great tournament on his own. Also, he has shown one thing he could do in the Nba, he can be a lock down defender, he could guard multiple position, so in the very worst case scenario he will be able to find a role as a specialist. Not to mention that he displayed ball handling and passing skills and overall awareness that McAdoo is still far from. If there’s a joke that’s the fact that here they had McAdoo at 4 a few years ago while Gordon has never been higher than 15. Obviously coming back to school might hurt him and I totally think he should leave, but he’s no McAdoo.

Jerami Grant – Tweener, no outside shot, but people still seem to value him top 10-20. Without a real PG, his weaknesses will be exposed even more.

    James Young,

Looked like the best player on the floor during the Final 4, showcased great athleticism and steady outside shooting. He’s gonna measure long in the combine, and look good in workouts. He’s gonna be 18 during the draft too, and quite frankly, I’d take him above a guy like Zach LaVine. Think he might be able to sneak into the top 10 this year.

Jabari Parker. Otherwise he’s gonna get the marcus smart treatment.

Plus next year’s class is loaded with talented bigs, so he really might go lower next year.

I personally don’t think Daniels is ready for the NBA. He doesn’t have a position IMO.

I think Ennis had to go pro.

Wiggins is the other obvious one.

    Rodney Hood too.
