HitsterParticipantI was just glancing down the career points list to see how far Melo was off 20,000 career points – he needs 89 by the way and noticed a few bigger milestones approaching.:-
Paul Pierce is only 19 points off being only the 18th player to reach 25,000 career points so should hit that mark in the next game or two.
Tim Duncan is within 140 points of this mark but is unlikely to reach it this season as I figure Greg Poppovich won’t be playing him that many minutes during the last few regular season games.
Dirk Nowitzki has moved to within 18 points of entering the top 10 NBA career scorers when he passes Oscar Robertson in the next game or two. Being the first European player to get into the top 10 will be a great feat by Dirk and he he stays sound and plays on for a few more years he could move well inside the top 10, he has Hakeem, Elvin Hayes and Moses Malone all within just over 700 points so should pass them next season.

chrisinozParticipant4 Assists away from being in top 3. Will be interesting to see if he plays next season. He wants the money after all 😛

HitsterParticipantVery good point out by Chrisinoz about Steve Nash, he should be able to get on court to get up to 3rd place this season.
It also puts into perspective that he is still 5,500 behind John Stockton, Nash has played over 1,200 career games and is a top 8 APG career player but if you added his career assists to that of Tony Parker – a 13 season player averaging 6.6 apg across his career they barely overtake John Stockton combined.
The stats that the likes of Stockton and Kareem put up may never honestly be passed. Until Magic Johnson had his health issues, he could well have set levels that Stockton would even have struggled to reach. Don’t forget that when Shaq and Kobe joined the Lakers, Magic was not as old as Nash was when the Lakers signed him. So with his size advantage and incredible court vision, I could have seen Magic pulling the Lakers strings well towards the millenium.
