 Best pure scorer I have ever seen.  Literally no weaknesses on the offensive end.  If he stays healthy, he’ll break the all time scoring record easily.

 One of the most underrated things about Kareem was his intense fitness regimine. He was able to play for a long time because of that and his diet.

Also, his hook shot was unstoppable and was always there. Not as easy for KD as you think. Though he is the guy with the best chance to do it.

 KD is a phenominal talent. You look at a guy like Lebron, who is the best in the game, right now, and you say that guy was born to be an athlete…hence all this if Lebron could play football or hockey BS we always see on EPSN, but KD was born to play basketball.

I think his upside is as high as it gets as long as he stays healthy. He’s a cross between MJ and Dirk, with a flash of Bird. His D isn’t at the level it could be but, this kid is a major talent. As much as I respect Lebron James, it kind of feels like 5 or so years ago when Kobe was regarded by many as the best in the game, and Lebron was clearly the next in line.

 KD is a phenominal talent. You look at a guy like Lebron, who is the best in the game, right now, and you say that guy was born to be an athlete…hence all this if Lebron could play football or hockey BS we always see on EPSN, but KD was born to play basketball.

Durant is probably a more well-rounded scorer in that he’s a better 3pt shooter and ft shooter, but I think MJ was better in the mid-range, post-ups and and driving to the hoop.

Back to JoeWolf’s point, Durant has Jordan’s devastating scoring and Bird’s devastating shooting.  Heck of a combination. 

You could one day say that Durant has been the Best Scorer in NBA history while also saying that Jordan is still recognized as the BEST PLAYER in NBA history due to more titles, better defense, etc.  You can separate scoring greatness from all around greatness.  So, Durant might be named the best EVER as far as scoring goes, without him being able to pass Jordan, Wilt, or even LeBron on the lists of BEST EVER. 

Durant looks like a guy who should be among the 10 to 15 best players EVER.  How far up that ladder he climbs will depend primarily on rings.  There are some guys up there with LOTS of rings.  Looks like his baseline would be to end up as the third best small forward in NBA history behind Bird/LeBron.  Now Durant could obviously do some things to make that distinction pretty much a three way tie.

Too many people don’t seem to realize the unreal consistency it would take to attain certain records. KD’s first seven seasons have been spectacular, probably 4 scoring titles and about 15,000 points after this season. He has also been fortunate enough to not have been affected by any injuries.

If his next 7 years are just as good as his first seven he will have about 30,000 points but he’ll be going into his 15th season and will be about 33 years old with about 1100 regular season games on his body and probably about 140+ playoff games too. His body will start to break down and his scoring will decrease, it happens to everyone. Even Kareem was averaging about 22 PPG by his 14th season at the age of 35. Saying KD will average 25 PPG until he is 37 is generous at best.

He’ll still need another 8500 points or so. It is certainly possible but he’ll need to stay healthy, continue being the focal point of his team’s offense and play at an All-Star level until he is 37 or 38. It’s nowhere near a probability and saying that he’ll break the all-time scoring record “easily” is absurd.

I love KD and think about this, he doesn’t have much of a post game yet.  I bet that the minute Dirk retires, KD will hire him to help develop his post game.  If he can get that fade away that Dirk loves, he will be unguardable until he is 40.
