Moon RiverParticipantI guess it is true. He was a first round lock two years ago, but see him in round two this year.

Fun one partyParticipantHonestly if McAdoo had left school earlier he would have been a higher pick most likely but he will still possibly get drafted in round one and he will make the team drafting him look very smart.McAdoo seemed to play hard and give a ton of effort in his games. He looks like a NBA player and he just knows how to play the game of basketball the right way.Nothing but love for this guy hopefully he has a long career in the NBA.I wish him the best.

SpaceghostParticipantAs a Tarheels fan , I can not express how happy I am with him deciding to go pro. More Mins for Brice Johnson. More mins For Justin Jackson. While McAdoo has talent it wont be reached by playing another year at UNC. He crumbled under the pressure of being the next star at UNC.
Paige, Pinson,Tokoto,Johnson, Meeks… Let GO HEELS

Chilbert arenasParticipantChad Ford has him as #60 ranked prospect. I rarely agree with Ford but is there a possibility he goes undrafted? He would have gone much higher a couple years ago, but would be in the D-league since.

uabasketballParticipantI find a UNC fan who is not "gushing" about McAdoo. The guy just plain and simple didn’t live up to expectations, and personally, those expectations weren’t even warranted for him as he did NOTHING to help facilitate in creating them. The guy only played 15 minutes per game his freshman year while averaging 6 pts and 4 rbs a game and people actually thought he meritted a top lottery pick?!? Those same people are probably the ones thinking there’s no chance in hell Aaron Gordon succeeds in the League, well check the stats my friends. I will be the first to say that Gordon is probably the worst shooter in the NCAA this year, HOWEVER basketball is much more than a jump shot (which can be taught), and he possesses the skills, motor, and IQ that you can’t teach to players like McAdoo.

uabasketballParticipantI was actually just trying to talk about McAdoo and used Gordon as an example because they are both being labeled as "tweener" players. Though my username does imply me to be a "homer" when it comes to Arizona basketball I am a very objective person when it comes to discussing any sports topic. Hence me saying that Gordon is probably the worst shooter in the entire NCAA, and I actually mean that. I even reverted back to McAdoo’s freshman year stats when his "potential" was at an all time high, especially on this website.

qDizzle32ParticipantHe’s just one of those guys who would be making much more money if he had left earlier. He could have been one of those guys drafted in the late lotto without ever starting in college. Now he more than likely will be making less than a million with a non guaranteed contact as a 2nd rounder.

Lotto StudParticipantCatch-22 because if he left early we would be questioning his decision if he didn’t perfom up to expectations. We pick apart so many guys it’s not funny. Look how it turned out for fellow Tarheel Marvin Williams.

Memphis MadnessParticipantI compared Aaron Gordon to James McAdoo but it might have been on another board.
On another board I also suggested that when our team works out bigs we should also bring in James McAdoo so we can answer this question: "Is this guy better than James McAdoo?" It’s called the James McAdoo Test.

samosasParticipantEveryone always says that a player who’s iffy should come back and work on their game and improve. McAdoo did not improve and now he is going to be millions of dollars less rich than he would have been had he left after his freshman year. But..but..education! Degree! Please. Who gives a shit if you have a degree if you’re a millionaire.

Memphis MadnessParticipantHis draft stock never improved after his first semester in college. He peaked in HS as far as "potential" goes. Now, he has no buzz, and comes out in a DEEP draft? Damn, now he is probably better off staying, getting his degree, and show NBA teams that he could be an "energy guy" off the bench.
I don’t see how his draft stock could get any worse…
If UNC makes a Final Four run next year, I think that would automatically bump up James McAdoo’s draft stock.
One guy who might consider coming back is Willie Cauley-Stein. His draft stock is in the 20’s and he is hurt. I think he can move into the top 10 or so next year, and you could see him developing into a Tyson Chandler type. Or, if he works on his leadership and intensity I could even see him being compared to a Joakim Noah.
Aaron Gordon might need to go pro, since he is top 20 at the very worst, and might even be top ten on some draft boards. He is basically a tweener who can’t shoot, so if that doesn’t improve he could drift like McAdoo.

he’s handled this whole process, from freshmen year to now, the worst you can possibly do it.

M-EazyParticipantCrazy seeing his decline over the years. I remember watching him in high school against Dorian Finney-Smith in what is known as a local classic basketball game. After that game I walked away convinced he was the next big thing, then he won MVP of both McDonalds and Jordan Brand classic and became a sure top 5 pick in most people eyes. Then UNC happened to him! A lot of people in the local area (757, VA) think that Roy Williams system is doing nothing for McAdoo’s game like Harrison Barnes. Hopefully he makes it to the NBA and makes some noise but after watching him in college these past 3 years I’m convinced he’s a future NBA bum.
Sidenote — interesting timing in the announcement. Did McAdoo watch Justin Jackson in the McDonalds game last night and think "Damn he could take my spot next year"?

ncballerUNC fan here. Macadoo had his chance at UNC plain and simple. He simply decided that his athleticism was enough. Roy’s system is not at fault here. He never worked on finishing, never developed a free throw shot nor consistent mid-range game. He simply was overrated. And LOL at the Jackson statement. Jackson will likely start at the 3 pushing Tokoto to the 2. He is not a 4. He is 6’8 185 lbs haha. Macadoo should have seen the bench this year because Johnson is just flat out better. No contest. Better touch, rebounding and shows up in big games.

ncballerNot sure why you got negged for that, it’s true. Johnson averaged 1 rebound less a game than JMM in about 12 less minutes. The only reason he started was the JMM name. While Roy isn’t the best at developing wings, he is great at developing bigmen. JMM lack of progress reflects his lack of focus, mental toughness and a consistant work ethic. Heck Brice Johnson at 6’10" 215 lbs finishes through contact better than 6’9 240 lbs of muscle JMM.

surveParticipantMost top prospects Roy ever had turned out to be much better pros because he didnt use them right. McAdoo definitely lacked skills…I am not saying he didnt, but the dumb azz style Roy plays in is only conducive to winning based on pure talent. Thats why we won all those games this year. Why did we lose to UAB, Belmont, Wake Forest? It wasnt due to lack of talent.
I will say that Johnson shouldve started over McAdoo, but as I said….it wasnt all JMMs fault. Roy’s plays are terrible. He refuses to designate a go-to guy….which Paige had to just basically step up and do it. He is seriously holding back the all-around game of Tokoto. Hicks really didnt get any burn. Simmons deserved more burn but why they had him in the lineup as opposed to Hubert in the final min of the last game is beyond me.
The most frustrating game of the year was Iowa State. They left a fukking gap in the middle of the lane the entire 2nd half and Roy either couldnt see it or refused to adjust to it and Kane just went in the lane every time. Also as soon as Meeks or somebody else makes a shot he yanks them out. How can you get in rhythm. McAdoo shouldve learned from Barnes staying longer than he should have!

antoniom229ParticipantOkay, who is the player that is playing much better in the NBA? Ty Lawson is the only one that is playing great from UNC. Roy won two titles, had coached in 3 final fours, and he has the highest winning percentage in College Basketball. Mcadoo had the green light and he didn’t dominate because he is too inconsistent. Why didn’t Hansbrough, May, or Zeller didn’t struggle at UNC. They didn’t struggle because they are good players!!! The team had lost them early games because they were inconsistent and they had one shooter on the team. They got better after that Syracuse’s loss. If this team had PJ, they could still be playing right now. Mcadoo was the go-to guy but he is so inconsistent that he hurts the team with his terrible free throw shooting and miss lay-ups. Paige waited to long to be aggresive and that is another reason why this team was so hard to watch. What isn’t about Tokoto that y’all think he is an all-round player? Tokoto can’t shoot, he can’t handle the ball, and he is overrated on defense? That is not on the coach when you got a player like that! Hicks didn’t play that much because he was terrible on the court. Did you watch the games? He acts like he didn’t play basketball a day in his life. You think Simmons should play more? LOL! Simmons sucks! He should be playing on the Division 2 level. Against ISU, UNC didn’t start playing bad until Paige shot that 3 point shot when there was plenty of time on the shot clock. Kane did not drive all game. There was no lane open the whole entire game. WTF? LOL! Roy did not yank nobody after they made a shot. Stop making up stuff! If that was the case, why he never took out Paige or Mcadoo? Barnes had left after his sophomore year and he is coming off the bench. Find another team to cheer for if you hate Roy so much!

antoniom229ParticipantRoy Williams’s system is perfect for a big men. Look at Sean May, Hansbrough, & Zeller. They "all" flourish under that system. So, why couldn’t Mcadoo do that? He is the most disappointing player in UNC History. He can’t shoot, can’t make free throws, and he misses alot of lay ups! He fouls too damn much! Please don’t compare Barnes to Mcadoo! Harrison had avg 16 points in his two years at UNC. He was a 2nd All American, 1st team All-ACC and the ACC Rookie Of The Year. Harrison had a good career at UNC. Mcadoo didn’t and that is why there are so many UNC that won’t miss him. Justin is a small foward and Tokoto is the one who needs to improve his game or Justin will start over him. Justin Jackson is the #2 Small Foward in the country.

MettaWorldDurant1ParticipantThis is just another example of the fact that tweeners who can’t stretch the floor are pretty much useless in the NBA and end up having to do the dirty work. A tweener who plays off enegery needs to show some signs of development should he decide to stay in school other wise scouts will pick apart his game. IMO players like McAdoo, Aaron Gordon,Montrezl harris and Cleathony Early need to build hype and act fast as bullying college players is necessarily prepping him for the NBA.

TEQU1LAParticipantMcAdoo reminds me a lot of Matt Barnes, I see him having a pretty similar career as him. Neither of them have particular good skills but are able to stick with a team due to their atleticism and hustle. A good NBA team for McAdoo might be the Clips as they like to run and dunk two things he’s good at, an having CP3 throwing lobs for him would make things easier for him.

TarHeelRavenParticipantThis is great new for Isaiah hicks. Hicks came in last year as a top 20 recruit but looked lost all season. If mcadoo comes back he stuck behind him and Justin Jackson at the 3 and might have to consider transferring. Now he can work on his game all summer and come back next season more confident and able to come off the bench and contribute.

TarHeelRavenParticipantThis is great new for Isaiah hicks. Hicks came in last year as a top 20 recruit but looked lost all season. If mcadoo comes back he stuck behind him and Justin Jackson at the 3 and might have to consider transferring. HomerKangParticipantI think McAdoo will do well as a backup PF or SF. He’ll be a Juwan Howard type in terms of size and skills.

antoniom229ParticipantJuwan Howard was good in his prime in the NBA. He was better in College than Mcadoo. No comparision!

bigtymer32Participantmc Adoo stock wise it wasn’t wise to stay in school but maturity wise best decision for him.should of just stayed his senior year and got that degree.he can still be a good player some guys need a new challenge to bring there game to another level.he can be a defensive stopper or energy guy in the nba.just a story of over hyped.if he came out early he could of been a story of someone that had a short stay in the league.now he can be a niche guy.

SpaceghostParticipantUNC FAN here to the Highest.. But its not ROY’S job to turn out pro’s.. Its Roy’s Job to win at UNC which he has done twice. Do i agree with who he plays and his x’s and o’s ..HELL NO! but im not going to the Hall of Fame ..He is. The summer is where a players get better and McADOO choose not to expand his game in 3 summers while attending UNC. WTF was he doing. UNC players have an open door policy to all the pros.. all the Alum. Mcdoo could have picked up the phone called anyone to get tips how to improve his game.. Twan Jamison, Vince, Sheed, Stackhouse hell even Rick Fox. but he did nothing..came back the same player each year until the pressure cracked his confidence.

JoeWolf1McAdoo will help his cause in the combine. I still think he’s going to end up being a 2nd round pick, but he’s gonna go into Chicago and showcase his athletic ability and a team will take a flier on him, just in case.
With the increase of the D-League, I think he’d be a solid pick in the 30s or 40s. You could sign him to a two year deal for not very much and work on developing him in the D-League right off the bat and maybe bring him up at the end of his rookie year or for his 2nd season. He isn’t a ball player, just an athlete, but he’s got some solid physical tools that don’t come around every day.
