hbomb3300ParticipantAfter what I saw last night there’s no doubt in my mind if I’m a GM picking outside the top 8 I’m taking this kid if he’s available. I agree that he is very raw and unpolished but I would take the chance on his upside over a potential role player like Hood or McDermott.
Side note: Anderson at 5 on the big board? Come on…

juves4783Participantwhat? he scored 9 points in his final 5 games and 0-10 from 3s. must of saw something differently…
i agree on the anderson thing too. he’s a mid-1st. nbadraft.net went crazy over the weekend with him and early.

hbomb3300ParticipantHe proved to me he can shoot in the beggining of the year… he went cold towards the end of the season but that wouldn’t stop me from drafting him. You can’t teach his explosiveness and I’m confident he will become a great shooter after a couple years at the NBA level.

clarkpkParticipantYeah, he has some athleticism, but his bust potential is super high. I’d be nervous about Aaron Gordon, and I’d take Aaron Gordon long before I’d take Zach.
As for Anderson, 5 is too high, and I love the guy. Still, How many guys below him are clearly better choices? Randle (who seems way underrated here) and Vonleh for sure, Exum I suppose (I’ve never actually seen him play). After that? Gary Harris is a nice player, but I’m not convinced he’s any better than Anderson. McDermott is a turd, Warren can’t shoot, Hood can only shoot, Cleathony Early is an exciting player but I’m not sure if he will be more than a spot-up shooter / tough defender type. I think somewhere around #10 makes sense for Anderson.

imAboutDatActionParticipantLavine can either be the next Gerald Green or the next Gerald Green.
what i mean by that, his career could go the same direction Gerald’s went in the start of his career. win a dunk contest, struggle to be productive and find himself out the league after his rookie deal.
Or..the Gerald we see with the Suns. productive, hitting outside shots, & providing great in-game dunks.
boom or bust prospect.

clarkpkParticipantI suppose LaVine could be as well. The main reason I hate drafting guys who clearly need 2-3 years of development is that you basically get stuck with one of two scenarios:
1. They bust out
2. They hit RFA status just as they start to develop, and someone hands them a huge offer sheet. Now, you have to decide whether to pay huge bucks for a guy who still might not work out, or let your big investment walk with nothing to show for it.
This is why I would lean towards guys with a shorter development arc.

hbomb3300ParticipantI agree with the comparison, Green and LaVine both have all the ability in the world, just a matter of putting it all together. While Green was horribly immature coming into the league out of high school, poor work ethic, and selfish, LaVine is mature, a hard worker, and played point in high school so he knows how to pass. That’s why I would feel confident investing in his future.

max23ParticipantAs far as where he’ll get picked,if he had been in Australia instead of Exum, and all we saw was highlights of his dunks, him blowing by people and his shooting,he would be going top 5…
I hope he goes to a winning team, atmosphere where he’ll be able to grow and not have too much expected too soon.Hes not close to ready to contribute, will probably be in the dleague lot of next year.Do lottery teams this year have luxury of picking a player that will play a lot in the dleague next year?

strobox88ParticipantIf you read the article this site has on his decision to enter the draft, there was a good likelihood LaVine wouldn’t have increased his role with UCLA next season, which I’m sure played a factor in him deciding to go pro. As an unproven prospect with high upside, do you ride the bench another year at UCLA, or ride the bench in the NBA making millions doing so as a potential lottery pick. Not a hard decision for me.

felixthecatParticipantJust looking at the awards Johnson is picking up and/or up for is seems odd to select a bench player who didn’t start for his team over the conference POY. But the draft is about POTENTIAL. Johnson is ready to contribute now, especially on defense. Like looking at Avery Bradley again.

Fun one partyParticipantLavine is a gamble either you hit a jackpot or you get nothing special.Lavine has a chance to be a great NBA player because he has the physical tools needed to make it in the NBA.His game is made for the NBA.Athletic and yes he can shoot. This kid will impress in the work outs teams will drool over his game.A possible steal.

OhCanada-ParticipantLavine is not a gamble in my opinion but he just needs to be evaluated correctly from a developmental stage. Terrence Ross and Jeremy Lamb are good comparisons not by game style per say but more on how to develop them. Both had similar freshman years to Lavine and pretty much doubled productivity as sophmores. As rookies both players were inconsistant and inefficient and did not consistantly get minutes. As sophmores they have both begun to carve out important roles to thier teams. They are not stars but have great dkilld and natural abillity the teamd are being patient and not rushing them into prominent scoring roles. I see a similar progression with Lavine wether he stays another year or not.
