Crean In Trouble at Indiana?

This is why I wasn’t upset when Kentucky quit playing IU, when some people were calling UK ‘scared’.  Tom Crean is not, by any strech, a good coach.  Why would Kentucky take a potential dome game (where are Final Fours played???) away and do a home and home with a team that can do nothing but hurt their SOS?  This is the place that hangs banners for beating a #1 team….in the regular season.  Not the winning attitude you want a talented kid to have.

I don’t understand how Indy has soured so much on Crean. He’s done an excellent job rebuilding a program that was in shambles (relatively speaking) when he got there, and has turned it into a yearly contender. He’s done nothing but bring in awesome recruiting classes, and with the exception of this year, get them to the NCAA’s. It just goes to show that being a coach at a blue blood university can be a very unforgiving and fickle gig- even when you are doing good, it may not be good enough. If Crean does get the boot, he’ll basically have another job guaranteed.

They return Ferrell (Jr.), Troy Williams (So.), Standford Robinson (So.), and Perea (Jr.), who were all 4 or 5 star recruits. There is also a 7 footer who may contribute this coming year named Peter Jurkin. They also two 4 star guard recruits in this year’s freshman class. 

Another year of maturity for Troy Williams could turn him into an NBA prospect. Robinson looks like he can contribute consistently. With more opportunity, Perea could look really good.

I still think my prediction I posted in another topic about Brad Stevens eventually becoming IU’s coach has a very strong possibility of coming true. When he was Butler’s coach, the only thing holding him back from winning over top in-state recruits from Indiana and Purdue was that Butler was in the Horizon League for most of his tender. With a few years of NBA experience, the history of IU, and an already established respect from in-state players, especially guys from Indy, I think Brad Stevens could do amazing things with IU’s program.

Again, I’m not saying this would be an imminent change for IU’s program because Crean has some fantastic recruits coming in next year and could still turn things around, but I’ve questioned a lot of Crean’s in-game decision making the past couple years, and I know I’m not the only Hoosier who has.

P.S. In-game decisions have never been considered a weakness by any means for Mr. Stevens.
