what a horrible game for a horrible and unbalanced team…and if you have to blame someone that has to be mike kryzewski. duke’s always been my favorite college team and i’ve always admired coach k, but today’s game has to be one of the worst if not the worst game he’s ever coached..

there’s no way that someone with that knowledge of the game hasn’t been able to run a play to attack that zone and do something else than shoot a 3..come on is just as simple as putting someone in top of the key(hood) to attack the basket from there or to pass the ball inside to jabari instead of having the player on top of the key just to set screens and pop like they’ve done.

off course all they’ve been able to do is shoot 3’s, and coach k can thank cook and sulaimon for hitting a bunch of them, if not, mercer would have kick their ass…

with that offence they’ve run, jabari was totally out of place and misused and he’s had to force bad shots all game..not to mention coach k sitting jabari with 3min left and 3point up for duke even if he had 4 fouls when they’ve could have killed the game there…

and we better not talk about duke’s deffense…mercer has run the whole game the same damn pick and the same back doors..amazing…

a case apart his rodney hood, he’s showned that even though he has nice tools for the next level, he is very very weak mentally and if he declares he’s not worth a lottery pick, well actually not even a top 20 pick because he’ll never be more than an ok role player..

off course all my congratulation to mercer because they’ve played really hard and smart and they totally deserve the win..

Duke outshot Mercer from 3 yet lost, so that’s clearly not the case.

      Duke was 40.5% from 3 (15/37) while Mercer was 38.5% from 3 (5/13).

      40.5% from 3 is excellent.

      Duke shot 28.5% from 2 (7/25) while Mercer shot 62.5% from 2 (20/32), haha.

      Imagine that.

A team full of 5-star players, coached by the supposed best coach in the game, not even shooting 30% from 2.

We know this about Coach K. While it feels wrong to be critical of the winningest coach, he doesn’t play enough players, and he doesn’t make in game adjustments like he should. It can be extremely frustrating.

i have also been a duke fan my whole life and i just cant believe what happened. Coach K lost control of this team entirely. You have the most versatile scoring player since durant and you made him a non factor in this ball game. One thing i disagree on is giving cook or sulaimon any credit. Throughout the year in games we were winning and sulaimon struggled he showed on his face he was mad and a selfish player….cook as an experienced point guard should have known to give the ball to your best player penetrate and get the ball inside….yes we are unbalanced but we are four and five star recruits this isnt acceptable. And to be undersized and that talented Mercer shouldnt be driving past you at all!!! Jabari Parker this year should have been better and put in better spots to score…..yes he learned alot learned to rebound got stronger pkay defense vuard all spots and play down low but several times we didnt give him the ball when we should have. 12-15 shots a game is unacceptable sulaimon and cook should be niwhere near the shots jabari should be taking. Okafor might be regretting this decision as much as coach k allows his guards to rule HIM and dominate the game. This game should cost cook his starting spot next year and if i had it my way on a more talented deeper team sulaimon should transfer or know his role and give the ball to the ppl it needs to be given to. Cause thais team and coaching job is the sorriest i have ever seen and the day coach k doesnhave conteol over his team ir thibk this was the pedigree to win against that team is the day duke may be in trouble……

Sulaimon and Cook were nailing their shots, though.  Yes, Duke needed more inside shots, but to a certain extent, Cook and Sulaimon are who they are.  They are scorers and they shot well against Mercer.  The only reason Duke was in the game was because of how well they shot the ball from down town.

While certainly some blame lies with the guards for Duke’s lack of interior scoring, more blame lies with their offensive system, which doesn’t stress post play, and Parker’s and Jefferson’s struggles themselves.  Parker is a fantastic scorer, but he is not flawless.  He still has to improve his ability to get open off-the-ball.  He is very skilled with the ball in his hands, but he still needs to improve his conditioning and motor to become more of a post threat.

Jabari Parker used 21 possessions for Duke against Mercer and scored 14 points.  Rodney Hood had 6 points on 13 used possesions.

Quinn Cook had 23 points on 13 used possessions.  Rasheed Sulaimon had 20 points on 16 possessions.  Sulaimon and Cook combined to score more than twice as much as Parker and Hood combined, despite using fewer possessions on the game.

I don’t think too many shots from Quinn Cook or Rasheed Sulaimon was the reason for Duke’s loss.

Jabari didn’t hit shots or score.  Didn’t get separation.  He’s not Durant (at least so far).

Definitely some of the worst coaching I’ve ever seen from Coach K came this year, and its been all year. First in the beginning of the season by starting and giving Josh Hairston minutes. Idk how he garnered D1 attention as a highschooler. Those minutes should’ve been given to Plumlee, who actually did EXACTLY what they needed him to do when he was getting minutes. If he had gotten 15-20 minutes a game for the whole season he might have been primed to step up like Zoubs did in 2010. Idk why K stopped playing him. Speaking off not playing idk why Dawkins only saw 14 minutes of action a night. I understand that if he isn’t hitting 3’s then he’s pretty useless, but he averaged 8 pts in 14 minutes and can be a game breaker when hot. He should’ve gotten more tick. Another issue I had with K’s coaching is the offense they ran..or the lack thereof. This team was built like a rec center team, pick the best 5 regardless of position. That didn’t mean they had to play like one. The reason Duke struggled on offense most of the time is because there were hardly any set plays. Sulaimon and Cook passing the ball back and forth against a zone then finally someone shooting a 3 smh. K was content with that. Sulaimon had a terrible year because he didn’t know his offensive role and there were no plays designed for him. There were no plays designed for anyone, for that matter. The only good thing K did all year was bench Cook for Thornton. He set the tone defensively, and Cook is the REAL cancer to the team. You have 3 players who are all great scorers when engaged (Parker, Hood, Sulaimon), so as the POINT GUARD, why not get them engaged. I’m hoping Jabari doesn’t want to be remembered like this and comes back..for blood lol

He gets practically home games and overseeded in tourney and yet he finds
ways to lose to 14 seeds. No in game corrections. He unlike Cal can’t coach one and done type players. So next year will be a big letdown for the dukies. Looks like he is losing the ACC vs A10 argument. He has just flatout got outcoached last couple years.
