So I was watching ESPN and saw the highlights of a NIT game and a guy named Karvel Anderson led Robert Morris with 38 points and 8 three pointers and thought to my self "Who is this guy? Does he have NBA potential?". So I googled his name and one of the first things that popped up was a story about him growing up. His mom gave birth to him at the age of 14 and had 2 more kids after that with 2 different men, and then eventually got arrested for cocaine trafficking. He became homeless and slept at a park. The rest of the story is right here

It’s a great story, and I’ll be rooting for him to keep succeeding in the NIT tournament and get noticed for his hard work to eventually become a pro basketball player.

Karvel is a great player!  As a Bryant University alum, I watch a lot of NEC basketball and Karvel has been pretty amazing.  He was the NEC player of the year this year and rightfully so, although I was hoping Bryant’s Alex Francis might take the crown.  A bit undersized for the 2 guard spot at 6’2, but can shoot the lights out, evident by his senior year percentages of 51% FG%, 46% 3P%, and 84% FT%.  The most impressive part about those stats is that he shot over 7 threes a game and still maintained that percentage!  Sometimes people have misconceptions about NEC players, but a lot of times they are just as skilled as major conference players, but a bit undersized.  Karvel is fairly similar to Olivier Hanlan (whom I’ve also seen play) and I think that he could do well in a summer league tryout for a team that needs a spark plug off the bench, especially next to a bigger poing guard.  Here’s hoping that he makes it and represents the NEC well!
