     Hey Everyone,

Its Bracket Time right around the corner I just wanted to get a discussion on it going.  Get to talking about teams I hardly watched this year and get to know them better.  I need to better my chances at that 1 Billion smackers reward.

    Some questions I have are

Is Wichta State legit? I looked after their schedule and they have face 0 teams worth mentioning.  They won by 9 at U of Tenn.  but they seem to me like a team that should be on upset alert in the second round.

Does Florida deserve #1 seed.  They remind me too much of Miami last year.  I just dont seem them as a legit Title Contender. Final Four is an option but I think this team is an Elite 8 team written all over it.  Guard play is fine but I dont think their inside game is good enough to carry them along.

Whats the deal with Virginia, Villanova and San Diego State.  Havent seen a game all year. Weaknesses, strengths?

I’m a homer but I’m still picking Michigan State to win it all.  With Dawson back and Appling reporting he is near 100%.  They will have make a nice run through the Big Ten Tourny to regain and top 3 seed.

true on wichita st.  one of the weaker schedules.  they made in to the finals last year so i wouldn’t count them out, but i see upset written all over them.

florida definitely deserves it.  solid guard play and tough defense.  not sure if they’ll win the title, but they should make a run.

virginia is my sleeper.  tough man to man defense.  reminds me of those old wisconsin teams that ran a lot of set plays plus tough d.  not sure about villanova.  they live and die on the perimeter like the old scottie reynolds days.  san diego st. is interesting.  they are super long, but lack perimeter shooters.  if they get behind, it’s a long road for them to catch back up.

nobody will agree with my pick but i am going on a limb with cincy to win it all.  love the senior leadership with justin jackson and sean kilpatrick.

Wichita State is hard to gauge.  They are a very good team with Fred Vanvleet, Tekele Cotton, Cleanthony Early and Ron Baker.  After looking at their schedule, they didn’t play one top 25 team all year and most experts will talk about their poor strength of schedule.  Their lack of top flight competition will definitely could hurt them in the tourney.  If they get matched up with a Kansas, Arizona, Syracuse or Virginia and get hit in the mouth and get down early, how will they respond?

I may be biased because they have the hometown hero Fred Van Vleet on their squad…..but how can you count out a team that went to the final four last year that returned MOST OF their key rotation players and their best NBA prospect in Cleanthony Early?  On top of that as good as Malcolm Armstead was last year as a senior Fred VanVleet is better than he ever was as a Sophomore.  Better numbers across the board with a 4 to 1 assist to turnover ratio….at one point it was almost 5 to 1.  His numbers are eerly similar to Tyler Ennis.  They are a better team this year than last and last year they went to the finial four.  Their strength of schedule is admittedly HORRID but as im jus so offended said they did play and beat a St. Louis Bilikens team that was ranked as high as No. 10 in the nation a couple weeks ago.  I think they’re an Elite 8 team but my bias is rooting for them to win the whole shabang.  I’ll admitt an upset is possible because it’s been a long time since they’ve faced some good competition but they belong where they are and are at the very leasst one of the top 5 teams in the country.

A few teams I’d be scared to face:

Virginia – Menacing defense, talented coach, veteran ball club

Arizona – Athleticism will be unmatched no matter who they play, and they’ve been rolling through teams

Creighton – McDermott will play out of his mind and be one of the hardest guys to stop in the field; plus he has a solid supporting cast who can hit open shots – this team is experienced and deep

Michigan State – Never count out Izzo, plus they have a lot of seniors, and can play with anyone when they play well

Flordida – Unebelievably talented and deep now that they’re fully healthy. My favorite to win the title

some of my thoughts as I am really into college bball this season…

Wichita st is legit and definitely deserving of a 1 seed. Im not hating on them at all. But like every team in America, they have weaknesses. When I have seen them play, they put a lot of pressure on opposing perimeter players and guards trapping screen and rolls and causing a lot of turnovers defensively. Im just not sure that approach will work so well when they play real teams with solid guard play. The shockers wont be pushing around guards from other teams like have done with their schedule this year. It’s always questionable judging a team that has beat nobody. I mean even the st Louis team they beat has currently lost 3 in a row and has 0 wins over top 25 teams. If that’s Wichita’s best win, then they don’t have any really good wins.

I really like iowa st and Michigan st. Michigan st seems to have all the pieces. Good guard play, a legit big and a great coach. Iowa st has some unique talent with bigs who can step outside and gaurds who can play inside. A very proficient offense with one of the best assists to turnover ratios in America if not the best.

And my homer pick, ucla. Seriously the bruins are 23-7 and their last "loss" was a double ot game vs Oregon where neither kyle Anderson or Jordan adams played. Every loss this year has been a close single digit game minus the loss to duke.

I really do not know enough about florida. They seem to have multiple game changers but not one single guy who really grabs your attention. Plus they play in a very weak sec.

I Gonzaga just doesn’t do anything for me this year. They are lucky to make the tourney and should be a one and done if they do make it.

And as a big pac 12 follower, Colorado is almost a lock to make the tourney, but I just don’t think they are very good and should be out rd 1. They are only 7-8 since star player spencer Dinwiddie went down and the only good win in that time frame was vs ASU.

Im pulling against Syracuse this year. Watching boehiem sacrifice his teams chances of winning by picking 2 techs in a 2 point game over a call that was close then reading about him belittling a team staff member after a win makes me not care for that squad this year. Plus I think ennis is vastly overrated. He has gotten tons of credit for being the leader of a team that is very successful, but I don’t see him as a lotto pick at all. He does nothing special.

The big 12 is a very legit conference and I could see teams like K-state and OK State make runs as lower seeds.

New Mexico could be a surprise..They’re an experienced ball club, with a very good point guard and their frontcourt players Kirk & Bairstow are physical, can blocks shots, great rebounders, that can play inside and outside…

New Mexico’s a weird team. They were actually quite a bit better overall last season (well, except that gruesome loss against Harvard in the 1st round), but their major weakness — offensive rebounding — has been cleaned up this year.

They’re quite a bit worse on the wing (Snell is in the NBA), but you’re right my bretheren, Kirk and Bairstow are a lethal combo inside and out.

I’m also concerned by how I’ve seen Kendall Williams play in the clutch.

Why are so many cautious about WSU. They went to the final four last year and had to beat good teams to do it and return basically the same team

People are concerned with them based on the schedule. But that’s not even really the issue. It’s that their best post presence is…

      Chadrick Lufile…

      …who averages a whopping 5.8 and 5 a game.

Wichita State actually played Tennessee, who is a top 25 team when you adjust for strength of schedule and scoring margin. You can’t just look at top 25 rankings. Most of these guys don’t really know how to judge teams anyway.

Wichita is excellent at the point and on the wing but they don’t have a single decent post presence, and as we’ve seen over the years, not a single team has ever advanced to the Final Four without a quality big.

We need The Don up in this thread!

Oregon is peaking at the right time, baby!!!

The Ducks have won 7 in a row (just beat the best team in the country this week) and have been getting unbelievable production from the long-sleeved wonder Jason Calliste and the man who gets paid to transfer Mike Moser.

Calliste is averaging 15.4 PPG over his last 5 and is shooting a LOCO 59% from 3.

Moser is averaging 17 and 13.4

    13.4 boards a game?!

    That’s Andre Drummond terrain!

Louisville as a projected 4-seed and Michigan State as a projected 5-seed has me salivating.

I love when elite teams get seeded lower than their actual worth.

Projected 1-seed Villanova loses to a tomato can in Seton Hall!

I hate when a team I know won’t go far, yet many will think go far, croaks early in their conference tourney to a bad team. 🙁

Here’s hoping Wiscansin or Michigan snatches up that last 1-seed.
