pujdadeuceParticipantDo not understand this one at all…granted its just a report but still.
The Pistons must just be gluttons for misery. I 100+% agree that Dumars has to go (as everyone is sure he will once his contract is up at the end of the season), but I’m just as convinced that Thomas is not their answer. One thing for sure: that organization is loyal to their legends but maybe broadcasting jobs need to be considered moving foward lol.

ReactionParticipantI couldn’t agree more. As a Pistons fan that has been with them through these rough past years I really really hope they don’t hire Isiah in the front office. I love him as a player and I believe he is a great person too but I don’t trust him with making front office decisions for the Pistons. I hear Gores is going after Izzo after this season for coach, which I don’t mind but I hope he picks the right GM for the Pistons situation. They need to build around Drummond and should focus on going young rather than grab aging players like Smith etc. Drummond is shaping up to be a beast and his offensive game is slowly improving. As a die hard fan, I hope they take it easy these next 1-2 years and let him develop while building around him. I hope that Gores has learned that there is no "quick fix" to rebuilding the franchise. It takes time and patience and should NOT be rushed. These past two contracts of Smith and Jennings was Dumars prayer to get lucky and save his job/fulfill what Gores wanted which is a playoff calibur competitive team.

omphalosParticipantNot sure how I feel about Izzo getting the Detroit job, I’d much rather see Lionel Hollins take the helm. He has a proven track record in the NBA with Memphis’ dynamic duo inside, and could implement an offensive system based around Drummond’s excellent passing ability, a skill he’s been unable to display very often thus far.
Hollins is also no stranger to working with inefficient SFs and might be able to win despite Smith’s deficiencies.

ReactionParticipantYeah I would love Hollins over Izzo to be honest but it seems rumors are that the Pistons are after Izzo. Plus they haven’t contacted Hollins yet even though he’s been waiting for a call after hearing all the rumors flying linking him and the Pistons.

SpartanGloryParticipantHollins is the right choice for the Pistons. He has the experience with big men, AND winning. Izzo is going to be at MSU for life.

pujdadeuceParticipantI dont see him ever leaving MSU, seems like his name pops up every year but nothing happens.
Hollins is not a bad choice and neither is Woodson just as long as him and Isaiah are not a package deal. I still dont think the Pistons roster is a lost cause they just need leadership and discipline rather it be from coaching or vet players (Billups where’d you go?).

Scott42444ParticipantIf the Pistons hire Isiah Thomas to be their GM they will DESERVE to be terrible. He is seriously one of the worst front office members in basketball history. He was a good coach with the Pacers, I will give him that. But, that was as a coach and he had strong front office members with him, not allowing him to make all the decisions. As a front office member, he bankrupted the CBA, was terrible with the Raptors, and was FRANCHISE DESTROYING bad with the Knicks. One example is the Eddy Curry trade with the Bulls. The Bulls got a couple picks, the right to swap a couple picks (which gave them the #2 pick where they drafted LaMarcus Aldridge and Joakim Noah), among other things. All for a guy the Bulls were NOT even planning on signing because he A) wasn’t good enough for the money and B) had a health issue. But, Thomas insisted on getting him and he sat there literally eating millions of dollars on the end of the bench for years. They also let Marbury do whatever he wanted and was part of a sexual harassment lawsuit. Dumars is a legit GM, he has just made too many mistakes and deserves to be replaced. But, if you replace him with Thomas, the Pistons ownership DESERVES to fail. It’s less than a lateral move, it’s a crippling downgrade.

GlenTaylorSucksParticipantI feel sorry for you, Pistons fans. You deserve better than Zeke. Joe Dumars has done a good enough job keeping that team mediocre to bad for 7-8 years. I can only imagine the damage Isiah would do there.

HitsterParticipantTom Izzo has been at Michigan State for 31 years including 19 as Head Coach, so it would seem strange for him to now jump to the NBA when he has just turned 59 years old. I expect Coach Izzo has had NBA offers before given his record at Michigan over the years so why would he suddenly take the Detroit on now.
He has achieved huge success in the NCAA without having any guys who have gone onto become NBA superstars during his time at Michigan so how would he react to coaching a young highly paid team I wonder. Also Coach Izzo is rumoured to be one of the top paid NCAA coaches earning over $3.5 million a season so he’d have no financial need to move to the NBA and must be in line to be a HOF contender within the next few years given his impressive near 20 season record at Michigan State.
I agree that Lionel Hollins would be an excellent choice for Detroit Head Coach given how well he got Memphis and in particular their frontcourt playing during his time there.
