The Bucks are upping the ante on the tank rankings.

Caronn Butler to be bought out with Miami seen as the early favorite.

This year has been so bad, it’s hard to the NBA to do something. But the tanking this year is getting absurd .

On the other hand, teams like the Bulls moving from 9 to 1 is jsut as bad, if not worse than tanking teams getting high picks.

I would say a smaller lottery to lock down the top 5 spots, with equal odds, would be something that could work. that way finishing 1st or 5th is of zero consequence. The only issue would be ties.

Don’t remind me.  As a Bulls fan, I feel like I am watching the Flint Tropics.  I don’t know if you guys saw/remember the movie Semi-Pro with Will Ferrel but their cheer was "4th Place".  That’s the Bulls.  Everyday they are cheering to get 4th Place.

Quite honestly I wouldn’t mind if the Sixers had the second or third pick. I want them to pick Parker but I wouldn’t be upset if they had to settle for Wiggins, Embiid or Randle. None of these guys are franchise players to me but I think they all have a chance to be all stars.

Or, your a Grizzlies fan (like me) and possibly/probably headed for the distinction of best 9th seed ever.  Oh, and the draft is loaded so it’s a year you either get a top seed or tank to get a top pick.  Being stuck in the middle — or worse, at the end of the lottery — would be the worst place to be in.

You know, where the Grizzlies are possibly headed.

I think we can still get in the playoffs but it would be hard.

Doug McDermott might not be a great consolation prize…

Nah, it’s not that easy, like compete or tank, black or white. First of all there’s really a fine line between being a contender and being a lottery team in the Western conference. There are 6 teams good enough to make the Western Conference finals under the right circumstances and at least other 2 teams will give some serious headaches to any other team in a single playoffs series. Other 2 are legit playoffs contender. So you just can’t plan to tank because you don’t know how things will go. Nobody expected Phoenix or Portland to be that good, so a team like Memphis couldn’t really think about tanking. And after the season starts it’s harder, especially because if you’re tanking, you’re doing it to get a top 2-3 pick. But tanking teams are terribly bad and playoff contenders in the west really have to blow up their roster to become bad enough to compete for a high pick. You don’t tank and make your team years away even from a playoff appearance just to get a 5-6-7 pick. I mean, once in a lifetime you get Kevin Garnett, Dwyane Wade or Charles Barkley with the 5th pick, but most of the times you get Jason Richardson, Jeff Green or Mike Miller and what’s left around them is only ashes. I mean, the Grizzlies have proven they’re a .500 team even without Gasol, they have to give away at least him and Conley to tank and they still wouldn’t be bad enough to have a shot at the top pick. Can you imagine how terrible would it be if you give away Conley and Gasol and you drafted some kind of Jeff Green? And even if you get a better pick, you tank if you think you can get a big long term upgrade, not just for the hell of it. It makes sense for Philly to tank and look for Wiggins. He has the potential to be a big upgrade over Turner. And if MCW, Noel and whoever they will draft this summer all develop their skills, they are a big upgrade over whatever Philly had in the last 2 or 3 years. But for Memphis? If they draft someone like Smart, how much of an upgrade he is over Conley? And if they had given away Conley and Gasol and got a top 3 pick, how long would have taken to make a team as good as the ones they have now? It’s just not that easy.

Think Caron would be a better fit back on the Clippers but he may not want to go there. Think OKC could use him as a back up and in a small line up where KD is the 4. Not sure about Miami as a fit though almost anyone can fit in there.

Hate to tell you this but the Bucks beat the Sixers this week without Caron Butler in the lineup…….by 20pts.

Also, as a Bucks fan, Caron Butler was one of our tank commanders.  He completely disrupted the flow of the offense in a way that made it almost impossible for us to win games.  This hurts the tank if anything IMO, as it means more playing time for Giannis and Middleton.

The Griz were in a tough spot, but not moving ZBo’s contract was mistake IMO. That cap space could be better used on a sharp shooting wing.

I really see the Griz being a team to take a guy like Stauskas or Hood.

Dear god, rodney hood would make the Griz really really good. He’s exactly what that team needs.

The 2 teams with the worst records (and most ping pong balls) from the last 8 lottos have not won the #1 pick.

As a Sixers fan that does not thrill me.

Personally I think each team should get 1 ping pong ball for each loss and draw balls for the top 10 picks, than picks 11-30 are based on record.

That MAY keeps teams more “honest”.

I’m waiting for someone to mock up Sam Hinkie as a US Army Officer in the metal hat and label it Sam Hinkie-Tank Commander. Almost sounds like a PS Game.

Also lets get the joke out of the way about the 76ers waiving Kwarme Brown when they wanted to tank when the best bet would have been to play him 30mpg.

Collins wanted to sign Kwame to a 5 year 30 million deal and the front office said no.

Guess they were tight from their time together in Washington.

Yeah, Philly is in full tank mode.  I for one think that the lottery is "sometimes" rigged.  If I were Adam Silver, and I had the ability to alter the lottery results, I would send a message at the product that Philadelphia is putting on the court by giving them the 4th pick.  Of course, I personally don’t blame their GM, Sam Hinkie, but they seriously are a joke at this point.  Dudes are falling asleep courtside and they are losing to their "tanking buddies" Orlando and Milwaukee by 20+ points.
