Say what you want about the man but he has been playing his ass off recently despite his team record. Since the All-Star break has ended he has averaged 37.4ppg 7.8rpg 3apg while shooting 50% from the field 49% from 3pt land and 78% from the free throw line. It’s too bad that the New York Knicks organization is wasting the best individual season of Carmelo Anthony’s career this year. Actually since he’s averaging 28.2ppg 8.6rpg 3apg with a PER of 25.4 which is 7th best in the NBA I would say that he’s been playing his ass of the entire season. While I don’t think that he can dodge all the blame for everything that has been wrong with the Knicks (the Denver trade) he has been the primary reason for guiding the Knicks back to relevance and has been the best player they’ve had in a LONG time. I hope he gets a ring soon to shut the haters up.

yeah, no doubt melo has been playing great.  it’s just unfortunate the cast of jokers the knicks have surrounding him.

Melo is and has been a hero all year.  I always thought his bball iq was questionable but he has shown this year he is at least slightly above average in that category (or maybe it’s the fact that the only other person on the team with any iq is prigioni and he looks better by comparison).  I think this season has shown Melo that he can either go team up with some real talent or continue to waste season after season until he has to chase a ring at the end of his career.

the highlights of Melos game vs the Mavs.  He was on fire and looked unguardable.  But im a big hater.  Just how he forced his way out of Denver and the comments he made along the way.  He had a really good team built around him there and they made strong runs in the playoffs each year.  Good coach in Karl,  Defense and rebounding in Birdman, Nene, Kmart, and half court offense made for his isolation play led by Billups.  As good as he is all i see is one self centered, team last player.  I love seeing him lose in NY.  They can continue enjoying his amazing shots and fat losing records each year

He had a really good team in Denver that was built around him. The issue with that team unfortunately was that they were always at a major size disadvantage and they weren’t a good rebounding team. The teams that he was constantly knocked out of the playoffs against were the Los Angeles Lakers who had a major size advantage against them with Andrew Bynum, Pau Gasol, and Lamar Odom. The tallest person on the Denver Nuggets team was NeNe who was 6’10 and is a horrible rebounder for his size. Also they had a really high payroll at the time and with virtually no tradeable assets on the team at the time he saw that he would probably never make it past L.A. and San Antonio with the Denver team currently constructed the way it was. I don’t think he was wrong to want out of Denver but he did screw up by forcing a trade. I am a huge Carmelo Anthony fan but the biggest mistake he made was not joining New York in free agency like he could’ve because he wanted his pre-lockout money so bad.

Yes, and when he is sitting home during the playoffs this year (and the Knicks don’t even have the benefit of a draft pick in a pretty damn good lottery) I hope he comes to his senses about money and organizations.  He has already stated that he doesn’t care about the money and would be willing to take less to compete for a championship.  I am a Bulls fan and would love to see an actual scorer (besides the oft-injured Rose) wearing a Bulls uniform.  I don’t think they will offer Melo more than $15-$16 million.  I don’t know if he takes that and they have other options.  So will he.  Many, many, many other options.  However, I really don’t think that he is the same 2-way type of player as most of the other "stars" in the NBA.  LeBron and Wade actually make less than him and they impact the game on both sides of the ball, as well as being MORE than willing to pass to each other and their other teammates when they can.  He probably could join a team, like the Bulls, that could at least be in the conversation if he is willing to take a 33% paycut.  The new CBA is very restrictive, and as you said he was ADAMANT about getting the "pre-lockout" money.  Hopefully, because I really like seeing stars play for good teams and play in important games (and nobody can say that Melo isn’t a star), that makes him REALLY NOT CARE about the "status" of being a max contract guy.

But, more importantly, the Knicks aren’t going to compete for a championship for (I am being very gracious here) at least 3 – 4 seasons.  Without draft picks, teams really have a hard time making major improvements.  Just look at how valuable Iman Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr. are to the Knicks.  A team like OKC, Chicago, Boston, LAL, LAC, etc have actually developed youth so they can make trades.  They have held onto their OWN draftpicks so they can develop starters (at good, team friendly deals) and also they can develop assets.  They have made trades, in the case of Boston they shipped EVERYONE out including their caoch, because they knew they weren’t a championship contender.  The Knicks are just a terrible organization.  Which is a damn shame because I love when the New York Knicks are relevant.  I love watching big games at the Garden.  But James Dolan is just terrible.  Terrible, terrible, terrible.

I’m confused at what you’re implying about Melo. Are you calling him a ball hog because despite the opinions of people who never watch the Knicks play he’s not. He does take some questionable shots at times and I agree that Melo doesn’t have the all around game that LeBron has which is OK he needs to play with a guy that’s going to be able to facilitate the offense and just let him focus on what he does best and that’s scoring.

Not his fault the Knicks are at the bottom of the league at PG, SG, SF.

Felton shooting 40% and 30 % on 3s, last year 43% and 36% on 3s. Turnovers are up from 2 to 2.5 a game, steals down from 1.4 to 1. Even free throws 79% last year to a horrible 70% this year which is a joke for a PG.

JR Smith was terrible shooting for a while and makes some horrible plays. Rarely does he drive to the rim.

Shumpert injured and is shooting up 40% overall which is terrible.  His trade value is shot but I’m still glad the Knicks kept him since he has talent and can play defense.

Injuries to Chandler, Felton, Prigioni, Amare, Bargnani have hurt esp. Chandler which helped cause an early season losing streak.

Opposing PG’s are averaging 24+ points against them and SG’s are averaging 20+…  Take into consideration that their backcourt aren’t averaging no where near that amd you’ll understand that its not his fault (or front line).

Another thing, the Knicks are switching everything which causes match up problems and why they’re getting killed on the defensive end.   The funny thing about them switching everything is they didn’t switch versus the Heat cross match ups the other night.  I don’t understand why they chose not to switch then because the Heat runs the same small line up as them.  Outside of LeBron it doesn’t matter who is guarding who.

Lastly, you guys forgot to mention Melo is playing defense on the opposing teams best wing or PF.  He guarded Dirk a good portion of the night and LeBron damn near all game.  I’m surprise he has any energy at this point, he’s literally doing by himself.  I know sometimes he’s out of position defensively but majority of the time it’s his teammates.  Like Tim Hardaway (who has been playing horrible lately and might be the worst defender on the Knicks) leave Ray Allen (who is one pass away) wide open to guard Shane Battier from 3…  Wow, just wow…
