Is Josh Smith To Chartlotte a real possibility?  It seems like this would ruin Detroit’s chances to make the playoffs this season, but as a Detroit fan I don’t really care.  If they can move Smith for anything I would like that.

The Pistons should trade Smith, Stuckey and maybe Monroe and tank as hard as possible…

I pray this happens and if a team was dumb enough to want to take on Josh Smith it’d be Charlotte. I actually was going to post a trade idea sending Josh Smith to NY….I think if LA can’t make a deal sending Pau to the Bobcats I’d say Detroit would be the only team willing to move a big that can actually contribute

In my perfect Piston world Detroit would trade Monroe Stuckey and Jennings to OKC for Westbrook Thabo and Perk

I think it this trade is definitely possible. Charlotte is sort of in the middle of the pack, and they do not have the ability to lure in big free agents (a player of big Al is probably the biggest they can attract). I think it really depends on who Charlotte is willing to give up for him, but If I were them I still would not do it. Smith has one of the worst contracts in the league and a bad attitude ontop of it, which to me is not worth it. Charlotte should keep their picks and young core group of guys IMO.

Might actually help their playoff chances if they get a good shooting SF that would allow spacing for Monroe and Drummond. Playing all 3 at the same time has been a disaster for them.

For the Pistons sake I hope it happens so they can look to build around there two young big men for the future. I also think Big Al and Josh Smith would complement each other quite well.

I like it but instead of Smoove for Gordon and a 2nd rounder, I’d change it to Smoove for Gordon and a first rounder (The pick that was originally the Pistons but is given to the bobcats because it is protected) Yes, I know that that would mean Detroit would get their pick back and I’m not quite sure if that can be done or not. So please tell me if that is not possible under league rules. If that is not possible then I would consider this trade having 3 teams instead of just two. Gordon could go to the third team, and that third could offer Detroit their first round pick.

The reason I think it would be wise to change it to this is because Detroit badly needs a 3 man that has strengths at long 2’s and 3’s with good defense. Charlotte has none, that I could see them being willing to give up. Kidd-Gilchrist has a low offensive game, but is an excellent defender but that doesn’t work because they really need a floor spacer for Monroe and Drummond to operate down low. And I also don’t think that the Bobcats would be willing to part with one of their young players. Henderson is a two guard, they need it to be a 3, because they already have Stuckey and Caldwell-Pope that are playing the 2. If he played the 3 then it would be perfect. Also Henderson is doing quite well right now so again I don’t think Charlotte would be to part with him. With offering a first round pick as well then Detroit can address their issue of a 3 in the draft. If a third team is necessary, then I’m not quite sure who they could get it would depend on who the third team is and where in the standings would they probably finish at season’s end. (I have not looked at who could be the third team yet). If a two team trade is possible with Detroit getting their pick back then I would say go for Rodney Hood. He could be had in the late lottery and would be perfect pairing next Monroe and Drummond. He can make the long 2’s and three’s and still play acceptable defense.

There are at least 18 to 24 teams in the NBA that don’t have a PF that would start over Josh Smith. If he was a free agent this summer and this deal was voided he would get one extremely similar in the summer of 2014.

If Smith plays all 34 of his minutes at the 4 then he would be a pretty productive player. Any and all minutes he plays at the 3 are terrible and a coach starting him there should be fired, even if he only tried it 50 games.

Smith alone should bring in at least one young prospect. If I were Cleveland I would consider Tristan Thompson and expiring, if Orlando (over the summer not while in tank mode, unless he exclusively plays the 3 then they sow up the number 2 seed of stinkiness) Harris and Nicholson, Chicago for Boozer and picks, New York for Bargs and an unprotected 2050 pick, Dallas for Marion and Wright (suprisingly productive), Gordon from NO, Okafor and Len from PHX, Derrick Williams or Jason Thompson plus thornton from Sacramento.

Not that those are great deals but Dumars is getting fired if trades Smith for another one of his bone head mistake signings in Ben Gordon. His net loss was already a first round pick, now if Charlotte gives it back then that’s another story.

Don’t get me wrong, Smith is a dumb player that only a CP3, Popovich or Phil Jackson can fix but he is flat out better than Tristan Thompson or Tobias Harris and its hard for me to say that because I have seen more than once both guys out play Smith while making a third or his salary in one on one match ups.

If Josh Smith never shot another jumper (not even 1) in his career then he would be a top 8 power forward for the next 5 years.

If Charlotte could swap Gordon for Josh Smith straight up I think they would do it. That effectively becomes a salary dump for the Pistons but frees up totally Monroe and Drummond as their PF and C.

If Charlotte could keep Biyombo, McRoberts and Zeller behind Jefferson and Smith then that would be a very good front line. They could move Smith to SF on occasion but not play him there full time like Detroit have tried to.

Charlotte are currently 26th in team scoring this season, 23rd in team rebounding but are an impressive 5th in points allowed. So adding J-Smooth would help boost the first two categories and consolidate the last one.

Charlotte are not going to get a very high draft pick this year, so why not try and consolidate their play off position and help build a team which can be a play off contender most years. Also getting Smith in would be a positive move to Jefferson who can opt out in 2015.
