I was reading a post earlier regarding Thon Maker, I really hope he commits to the Aussie national team, I heard he has problems with someone within the camp and won’t commit. It’s been a long wait to be competitive as a nation and although we will never worry the USA, the below squad if healthy can contend for a medal if all things pan out for the youngsters as expected:
C – Bogut/Baynes
PF – Maker/Ogilvie
SF – Simmons/Ingles
SG – Exum/Newley
PG – Mills/Dellavadova
Good mix of exciting youth and experience.

That is a nice squad on paper. Unfortunately Bogut will retire after (if not before) the Rio games which will most likely be too early for him to play with Simmons and Maker as with his injury history he needs all the offseason recuperation he can get.
And I didn’t know he had a problem with someone within the camp but if he does you have to fire him immediately and do whatever you can to get Thon to commit!

  I should probably mention retire from international basketball haha. My bad. No doubt he is going to stay in the NBA as long as he physically can.

Bogut will still be contracted with the warriors in 2016 so unless he gets a career ending injury (which, granted, is a chance) he will be playing. He has already stated his intention to play this years World Cup. I could actually see him returning to Australia or Croatia to play after his contract expires. I agree about firing the problem NOW to get Maker in camp.

Jonah Bolden is also one for the future. Has committed to UCLA. I dont see Bogut playing for the boomers again unfortunately.

  Jackson Aldridge averages less than 4 points per game for a mid major college that’s under .500. We aren’t that strapped for talent down here.

Who do you think could contribute in Rio that currently play in the NBL?
Anyone outside of Goulding, Madgen or D.Johnson?

  Oligvy is currently in with the Sydney Kings (as I mentioned in the other post).
  Damian Martin could possibly be a 3rd string PG for the team. Same goes for Steven Markovic. Nate Tomilison is leading the league in assists in only his second year, if Lemanis wanted to inject some youth in the squad he could go over the above two.
  Mitch Creek of the 36ers and Todd Blanchfield of the Crocs are both up and coming SF’s who could feature in the future, Creek being elite athleticism and Blanchfield a nice all-round skillset.
  Mark Worthington despite being on his last legs is still a viable scoring option (who can still show greatness on his day) could be considered if injury strikes the squad.
  Although Goulding and Madgen are the only two who’d potenially star for the squad, don’t underestimate the depth the NBL provides to the squad.

Oligvy at PF is a horrible idea. I know the Sydney Kings were planning to try it before Crosswhite retired but that would’ve ended horrible having watched Oligvy play this year. He’s a great centre and could easily be the Boomers backup over guys like Maric and Andersen.
I say backup because I’ve heard from a variety of sources on Aussie basketball sites that Bogut was leaning against competing this year but has never verbally committed one way or the other. However, he has been quoted saying he’s still "100% committed" to playing in future events.
Other than that, if you are looking for a team in the future SG’s like Ben Magden and Chris Goulding from the NBL could Elapse Brad Newley in the coming years.
Your squad does look like the Aussies ideal squad apart of Oligvy at PF, perhaps Cam Bairstow (who’s been tearing it up in college this season) could take that spot.

Didn’t mean to offend you frogman but I’ve seen college role players play a on a whole different level once they put on that national team jersey (Martynas Pocius) not to mention I remember him being a good scorer for before he came to Butler. I was just naming a few NCAA players I know off the top of my head.

Will Thon Maker even represent Australia? I read an article recently where Basketball Australia officials stated that they’d kind of given up hope on him representing Australia and that they’d "Lost contact" with him.

Sort of sucks as a New Zealander seeing this haha. We just get Steven Adams in the NBA and have Webster, Salt and Fotu in college and some other young players coming up but not on the same level as Aussies young guys. Dont get me wrong, NZ can ball, but just as the gap was closing a bit it seems like Aussie is going to shoot ahead a bit. Still good to see the young talent though, hope it actually pans out for all those young fullas.

It’s important for us to remember that Abercrombie’s entering his prime and Kirk Penney can still ball as well. Reuben Te Rangi would also be another player I’d throw in to the up and coming talk for us.

    Yeah thats true man, its like Aussie are getting that combination of size, skill and athleticism with our players a bit behind in one or two of those areas. True aswell, hoping Abercrombie can show a bit more throughout his prime, hope Penney can keep it going for a while aswell. Yeah I would put him in there, guess he just doesnt get noticed as much outside of Oceania since hes with the Breakers instead of over in college. Hope Reuben works on his handles a good amount though with him playing on the wing, think he might have had his wing skills held back a little bit when he was playing as a big for Grammer.
    But not to turn this thread away from Aussies haha they are developing their talent well.
