bloodshyParticipantTwo games in a row Burks has looked like the best player on the floor–while coming off the bench. Those games have been against the Lakers and Sixers (not exactly the most impressive teams at the moment), but his play has still been impressive. Moreover, he has been key to the Jazz wins, dominating the 4th quarter offense for Utah in each game.
Over the last two games he has averaged 25 ppg (in 26 mpg), shooting 14/21 fg, 2/3 3pt and 20/25 ft. He has netted 7 rebounds and 4 steals as well (total). I think he is finally starting to find his rhythm. He looks like a legitimate scorer in this league with the potential to be among the league leaders in ft shooting, which could lead to a very strong scoring average.
Even in the last 20 games (where he’s had a few stinkers) he has scored double digits 15 times, including 6 games over 20 points and one game over 30 points, though he played over 30 minutes just 6 times in that stretch. It is becoming more and more evident that this guy has been seriously undervalued and/or improperly used. I think Burks will be the Jazz’ leading scorer next year. It’s hard to identify his ceiling at this point, but it’s higher than what most of us were thinking over the last couple of years imo.

omphalosParticipantAgree, I think he has star upside. His jumper will come with time, its not broken like certain players – MKG comes to mind – and he has an ability to drive and get fouled that you just can’t teach.

Hector_Reyes_8ParticipantSomeone needs to tell Corbin to play Burks more, he barely used him the last couple years.

i’m jus so offendedParticipantNo way man! Keep lettin’ Burks build his confidence against the second units and run Jefferson out there for those L’s! Also Jalen Rose so eloquently puts it, you gotta be "Sorry for Jabari"

JoeWolf1He may finally be getting over the hump. I always thought he’d be a "starter" caliber of player, or maybe a guy that is used like he currently is in Utah, sparking the 2nd unit and providing offense as well as playing with the 1st unit in different mathup scenarios.
Last year, he really looked like the same old Alec Burks that I was luke warm about coming out of school. I knew he had talent, but I just didn’t think he’d ever be more than a 14 ppg guy in either role I mentioned earlier. I gotta give him props, though, Utah isn’t great, but he’s making strides, and he’s young enough this may be the year that will give him the confidence and experience to propel him to a higher caliber of player than I thought he’d become.

CameronCrazy11ParticipantI really hope Utah can hold onto their current young core and get Jabari Parker in the draft. That could be a special team in a few seasons.

Captain LParticipantAlec does deserve credit, he is stepping up and proving a lot of us wrong, I have always worried he wouldn’t be able to show that he can shoot and he is proving that he can. He has always shown he can drive and get to the rim but he is showing that he has a special talent in that regard, he can contort his body and still be in control and finish or get fouled.
My biggest problem with Alec is that he doesn’t pass, he would be great and such a valuable player if he will learn to pass, creating easier shots for his teammate is or could be a result of his ability to get to the rim if he would only learn to look for his teammate and make the pass for the easy , open shot. I hope he matures to be able to do that.0 - Posted on: Thu, 02/13/2014 - 4:32pm #871650

Dale WorthingtonParticipantIf Alec Burks has indeed found his stroke then he’s gonna be an All-Star. This kid is an absolute beast of an athlete, who can get to the tin at will. He was my favorite player in the draft a couple of years ago.
