MopgrassParticipantIt took me 6 months to come back from -100 to get +1. What are the keys?
1) Stop saying negative things about players. Especially popular players. For me, I hate most things, so this is especially hard.
2) Don’t propose trades. Duh. Most of us think we should be GM’s, so it’s hard not to. The irony is trade proposals get the most responses.
Obviously, negs don’t really matter. But it suggests you don’t know basketball.
Most importantly, get your positive points up now so you can say truly awful things when the draft rolls around… or unreasonably optimistic things like, "Maybe Embiid might fall to my team at the 17th pick." Save it… we’ve got 140 days to go.

Chilbert arenasParticipant1.) Don’t worry about points
2.) Propose trades that make sense with todays CBA, not necessarily trades that make sense on paper.
3.) Have fun, this site is a hobby for the majority of us.0 - Posted on: Wed, 02/05/2014 - 4:13pm #868734

terrancebowerParticipantLook at your profile pic you goof! Of course Americans don’t like you! It’s also because you proclaim every European baller to be amazing and you just have a clear bias in your posts.
It’s just a forum, you don’t need points to validate your NBA related opinions. Just because people neg you doesn’t mean you’re wrong, you just have to know when to quit arguing.

joecheck88ParticipantSay one liners with no insight. For example
This post is garbage.
Seriously though, I’ve seen the most points on things with no feedback at all. This is why the whole system is flawed. It is what it is. Most people lose points for opinions. Post your opinions. I give thumbs down on posts where a poster says something stupid like here’s my opinion and everyone who doesn’t agree is a moron. Stop it. You’ve got something to say, take the time and think of an educated way to say it.
I always try to be polite and respond to posts with why I agree or disagree without calling one names and such. Unless it is DHamp. What a legend. Haha

Magic JordanParticipantIn all seriousness I must say after reading the forums on other basketball sites… the people at NBAdraft.net are amazing in comparison. For the most part there is very little trolling.. people seem to speak objectively pretty well and all in all I enjoy reading the majority of posts that people post…. I suggest we all applaud ourselves for being rare civil internet users.

Toronto16ParticipantThe key is to use wit. Try to say something humorous in your post and usually you will get points.

princejamesParticipantI personally don’t care about receiving negative points, because I prefer to be a leader and not a follower. I personally consider myself to be an intelligent individual who knows a lot about basketball. And this website gives me the opportunity to talk about basketball when I’m in the mood to share my opinions.
Mopgrass I recommend that you just have fun, share your opinions, make intelligent comments, respect other nbadraft.net members, and most of all don’t allow yourself to foolishly care about getting negative points

DolanCareParticipantIf you start to worry about points on this site, you will stop saying your opinion. The biggest flaw of this site, is that people can neg a post without writting a response. And once a post has 5 or so negs, then they just start piling on. A lot of folks naturally gravitate towards what the herd does.
princejames is completely right, but he is the exception to the rule. I feel like a lot of posters with a low point total aren’t respected as much, even when they have high quality posts. Just my take.

CynthiaParticipant- Being hostile to other posters is always going to get you some negatives. Too often "debates" get out of hand on here and people get personal. We are here to share ideas and bounce them off eachother, there is no reason to let it get out of hand.
- Showboating or being egotistical will put you on the neg-train quicker than anything. Just because you called something a year ago and it happened doesn’t mean you need to make a post about it or call other posters out for being wrong.
- Trade ideas almost always get negatives, keep in mind there’s a lot more to consider than just salaries matching up. No matter what trade you make you’re going to offend some fans, someone will always feel like they got the short-end of the stick in a trade.
- One-liners or posts that just say "I agree with this guy". If you don’t offer any insight and post just for the sake of it, then you’re probably going to get negged. Personally if I don’t have much to say then I won’t even post.
Be respectful, even if you think someones wrong you don’t have to tell them that. If you wish to debate then do so, just don’t let it get out of hand. One of the reasons I love this forum is because most posters here are highly intelligent and have good ideas, so hear eachother out!

tuck243ParticipantWhat’s the point of debating if you can’t bring it back up? I noticed this a lot on here. People will neg you for your “unpopular” thoughts on a player and when you are actually RIGHT what should happen? Just go about it like it never happened? You state your unbiased opinion and everybody all but damn near call you stupid for it. Then a year later you proved to be right. Should I just let it go? Everyone wants to be right until they’re proven wrong then “Lets not bring that up”. It’s not being an a**hole, its about being held accountable for what you say.
