What happened to this guy this year? I thought he was going to have an absolute breakout season and he hasn’t even been starting as of late. I’ll be the first to admit living in NJ I very seldom get to watch the Jazz play but I thought this guy could have been the real deal. Anybody agree?

Also while I’m at it  Jonas Valanciunas  What do you guys think of him? Killed it in the summer league and has games where he flashes huge potential and he shoots a high percentage from the free throw line. Decent numbers this year but I was expecting a little bit more from him. Thanks guys. Go Cuse

Kanter was never a proven commodity in my mind and while some expected a huge year from him I had my reservations. He is a banger at center without a ton of skill. Not a lot of guys like that put up huge numbers anymore in the NBA (although he has had some good games lately). Gobert is their center of the future in Utah so I can see them attempting to move Kanter at some point.

As for Jonas he has had some really great games lately. He is putting up around the numbers I would expect and since they got rid of Rudy he is getting more touches. Most of the games he doesn’t reach double digits he only takes 5 or 6 shots…it can be tough getting shots up with the backcourt dominant team they have in Toronto.

      Kanter doesn’t have much skill???

Have you ever seen him play?  His weakness is quickness and defense and he isn’t a "banger" center at all…he has many post moves and a great shooting touch.  He’s an inside/outside Center if there ever was one…

I expected more from him this year as well but he’s had some very good games, he’s just been inconsistent.  I wouldn’t give up on him quite yet simply because he is so skilled.  I think he’s proven he can play he just might need the right system in order to flourish.

I still have no clue where you got the "banger center without a ton of skill" line…that just bugged me.

I’ve seen him play…not a ton being that the Jazz are never on TV and the kid didn’t play any college ball. From what I saw he wasn’t skilled…I stand corrected as the negs on this one have spoke for themselves…no need to be a butthead about it.

The last time I actually watched an entire game of his was last season against the Sixers..when in two games he averaged 8 points…Once again though I am not afraid to admit I was wrong.

lmao nobody is butthurt, you’re getting negged because you were wrong on your description about him.

he’s NOT a banger. he IS skilled. a 2 game sample size is nothing, including last year when he was stuck behind Millsap and A.Jefferson.

From time to tie he puts up an amazing stat line and then lies dormant for months. He’s a serious hoop tease. I keep waiting for him to produce nightly. He’s not close to that. His minutes also vary greatly. sometimes I think they’re benching him to intentionally tank.

Kanter started out the year pretty well, then his production and playing time became sporadic.  I still have faith he can become a solid player, I just doubt he ever reaches all-star caliber.  A little more experience will help.

Offensively, he is one of the best centers in the league. His defensive efforts however have been abismal, thus resulting in his sporadic playing time this year.

I still believe Kanter can be one of the best centers in the league. He’s had flashes this season where he looked like an all-star. He’s also had a lot of bad moments, as well. His minutes have been very incosistant, however. Truthfully, I still think him and Favors can work together. If the Jazz don’t believe so, I would love to have him as the starting center in Boston.

Kanter has a ton of potential. He just needs a system that allows him to play consistently and grow as a player.

"I think they’re benching him to intentionally tank."

The Jazz have a 1-21 (!) record in games that Kanter has started this year. His +/- is among the worst in the league, and he’s been horrid on defense.

Soooo if the Jazz wanted to tank, I imagine they would give Kanter more minutes.

I don’t think the Jazz should give up on Kanter yet, but I would not give him a big extension this offseason, nor would I pass on Joel Embiid if he was available.

he’s a really skilled Center with decent size, i still think highly of him. he’s been inconsistent this year, showing flashes of his potential and than not so much. But he’s still only 21,theres alot of upside with him.

once he gets more experienced, polished and consistent he can average 20ppg. he REALLY needs to improve his defense tho to be a complete player. he got benched last game for poor defensive play.

This is the problem when nba teams draft for potential, he was drafted in the 2011 draft which was two drafts ago, he was 19 when he came in and now two years later at the age of 21 his talent is being questioned. He was never thought of as a defensive big, but his offense is insanely good for a 21 year old center. I can’t even imagine how good he could be in just 4 more years when he’s still only 25. So why is he inconsistent and not a full time player yet, because he’s 21 and still developing. He’s got nothing but time on his side. I just hope the NBA understands this.

The thing is, he is a pretty good offensive player but even if he makes let’s say 15 points he gives up 20 on the defensive end with his atrocious defense.

His rebounding also got worse since last season which is weird because he was always a beast on the boards until this year.

According to ESPN Mehmet Okur is looking to assist Enes Kanter going forward, as Mehmet was one of the more skilled NBA bigs at his peak, this could be very useful for Mehmet.

I also read that without Favours the Jazz were 0-6, so this could indicate that Kanter’s defensive game isn’t there yet. In the last 5 games he has put up 17ppg so he is looking useful on offence but it isn’t great if he is giving up more points on defence.

Like Derrick Favours, Kanter is still on a learning curve and had to compete for minutes in a previously loaded front court, so his development will take time.

More worrying in my mind was that with Favours and Kanter in tandem, Utah lacked front court perimeter defence so had to start Marvin Williams at PF and drop Kanter to the bench. I’ll be interested to see if Kanter and Favours can gel as starters together going forward or not.

"His rebounding also got worse since last season which is weird because he was always a beast on the boards until this year."

He was also a pretty tough defender the last couple years. I think at least one of two things has happened:

    1. He’s having difficulty adjusting to guarding and rebounding against starters.
    2. He’s trying too hard to stay out of foul trouble.

It’s probably a combination of both.
