I rarely start new topics on here but something was really bothering me. I read where Steve Nash and Steve Blake will both start tonight for the Lakers. Now before I get into this, I want to say that I had already wondered what the Lakers would do with their point guard postition when Nash, Farmar, and Blake came back. I thought surely there would be no way that Nash, or Blake would take Kendall’s starting postition away from him. Well, I guess I was wrong. Is anybody else bothered by this? I understand Nash is a hall of fame player but he has been horrible the past two seasons, even though I’ll give him a little benefit of the doubt with his injuries. But you have to ask, shouldn’t the Lakers be preparing for the future? Kendall came in and played very well. Almost averaging a double double with 10.5 points per game and 9.6 assists per game. I know he doesn’t shoot it well, but his play has been really good in my opinion. He also has a PER of 14.41 and rebounds well for point guard at 3.1 a game. Do I think he is a top 15 point guard? No, not at all. However, this is a guy that is a traditional point guard that is going to spread the ball around and make everyone happy as his numbers prove. He’s 22 years old and I think all he needed was a little confidence boost. I also believe the Lakers should play him as much as they can so he can get some experience for the future. (Assuming the Lakers keep him around) Does anybody else see this as a problem? Could they sit him and loose his confidence once again? I mean the kid had 173 assists in the month of January. Thoughts?

Nash most definitely isn’t the future of the Lakers.  I belive he’ll be 40 this year.  Blake is getting up there in age also.  I agree with your assessment that they should play Kendall as much as possible.  He is a solid starting PG at the least.  I hope he isn’t just relegated to the bench because I think he has a bright future.  This will be an interesting development to watch with the Lakers.

I think its as good as it gets with Kendell honestly, Hes slow and point guards look great in D system ( Raymond Felton) ( Jermey Lin), he still cant shoot or defend. You might as well get many min for nash because he wont be there next year, and steve was doing great before the injury, granted it might be harsh for them to start over it but Kendell might be the worst starting pg right now in league

It doesn’t really matter if its’s the system or not… Kendall Marshall is shooting 45.5% from 3 at 4.1 attempts per game. I don’t know what you mean by saying he can’t shoot. I think he’s a decent addition going forward… even as a backup.

D’Antonio said Nash will play 5-8 minutes in the 1st half and similar minutes in the 2nd,with Farmer getting the bulk of time at the point..Thats a shame, becuz Marshall has performed well, his 173 assists last month was the most any player has had in a month since Rondo did it 2 years ago..But Seniority wins…

Even though he’s played well as the starter it didnt lead to many wins..Im not sure if the Lakers will carry 4 point guards the rest of the season…..

But he has proved that he can be a starter in this league..

In some sick twisted way I think the Lakers will be worst with Steve Nash in the lineup then Kendall which helps them with tanking. Nash couldn’t guard his shadow.

Assuming we’re calling Xavier Henrey and Wes Johnson SF’s, Jordan Farmar is the only Laker guard who can play defense. They should try to make sure he’s their backup PG next year.

Kendall Marshall has earned a serious spot on a roster. However, his starting has helped the Lakers win, what, one game? Two?

Kendall Marshall doesn’t play defense, nor do the rest of the Lakers. I also find it very strange they don’t play Jordan Hill 30+ minutes a game.

The guys I mentioned on here are the only guys they should try to bring back next year. Everyone else is too old and/or defenseless.

I’m used to this. Lakers don’t give a damn who’s playing well or not, they don’t care about anything but names. While I agree, Marshall has played well, Nash is a HOFer that casual NBA fans may recognize. Marshall isn’t. I hope the Lakers don’t fuck up again and don’t re-sign Marshall like they did to Clark.

Marshall is on a 2 year deal with next year not guranteed. You can bet the lakers will pick up that cheap option since there is no way they get anyone better for what they will be paying him. Also, how is earl clark doing in cleveland?

I made this post and numerous other posts defending KMarsh NBA potential while he was still in college.  I just want to address the shooting.

    http://nbadraft.net/forum/breaking-down-kendall-marshall

@King_Calucha gave you his stats from deep.

thats the main thing I hate when people keep saying he cant shoot.  people here someone say something then they go around repeating it instead of watching games or even bothering to check stats.  Tony Wroten cant shoot.  Kendall Marshall isnt Ray Allen but his shot is respectable.

    @mopgrass

if he has helped them win 2 games out of 20 thats a good percentage when you consider he is not a franchise level player.   adjust that to a full season and 10% increase in wins is very good for one player…just think if you start adding more quality players.  Quality players raise win percentages.  How many lottery picks in the recent years have come in and helped their teams win 10% more of their games?

Nash starting over Marshall (even though Marshall still will play a lot and learn from Nash) is more about Nash’s name than anything.
