Magic Johnson recently tweeted a list of the Great Ones to play the game. On the list he had: MJ, bird, Kareem, lebron, and KD. Obviously the missing name from the list is LA laker Kobe Bryant. There’s been word about tension and a bit of animosity between the 2 for years but could this possibly prove it? I personally wonder why Magic would purposely leave Bryant off the list. I mean during the lakers run a couple of years ago when they were winning magic had nothing but praise for the guy. Now it seems he’s changing his tune. Idk I just think it’s a bit shady of Magic. If the guy never thought Kobe was great then say it but this was no accident

To be honest, I don’t care either way.

Interesting. No Russell or wilt, and no Kobe or Duncan. I like the other 5 except too early for KD.

That’s because you’re looking at the tweet out of context (not your fault since there was no context given in the OP). His exact words were: “The great ones Michael, Larry, Kareem, LeBron and now Kevin Durant can put their teams on their back and win!”

This was obviously in response to KD’s fantastic play as of late and Magic trying to say that he has now joined the pantheon of greats in his opinion. That doesn’t mean anybody he hasn’t named is not a great and couldn’t put their teams on their back and win. Nor does it mean he is ranking KD above those that he didn’t take the time to name. People take this twitter stuff too seriously.

I don’t too much into it because you look at the 5 he picked and who are you going to pull off to insert Kobe, or Wilt or Duncan?

Is there a potential ego issue between Magic and Kobe?  I would venture yes as Kobe dictates most, if not all, of his dealing with anyone and Magic was Mr. Laker forever.  I think a little friction between the two is almost inevitable.  And you know what Kobe would think of Magic’s list?  I assume not too much.

I too think it’s too early to place Durant on the list over Duncan.

There are so many players left off this list that it doesn’t matter: Duncan, Shaq,Wilt, Karl Malone, Reggie Miller, J.R. SMith, etc.

There are a lot of names missing from that list; Wilt, Russell, Shaq, Hakeem, Duncan, The Big O, Jerry West, himself…I don’t think the absence of Kobe is evidence of any kind of grudge

LMAO, I guess Magic’s taken the criticism to heart he’s since released a list of greats including Kobe, Barkley, Frazier, Baylor and even guys who got injured like Grant Hill, Danny Manning and Brandon Roy.

I can’t believe he left off Alonzo Mourning though. What a jerk!
