valentineWhy even watch the regular season when sixteen of the thirty teams make the playoffs? That’s a very low standard. I’d like to see it cut in half.

highflyer0ParticipantAll I have to say to this is that the Warriors vs. Mavericks series back when Golden State was an 8 seed and Dallas was a 1 seed was one of the most exciting playoff series I’ve seen.

ph90702When there’s teams who win 30 games and make the playoffs, it’s a joke.

ph90702In 1988, 16 of the 23 teams made the playoffs. That was even more of a joke.

B-ball fanParticipantSeeding still matters and it makes the playoffs way more exciting to have sixteen teams. All eight teams from the West will be good this season and the West’s top six teams are all championship contenders. Yes, the east is weak this year, but the West makes it worth it. And upsets are always fun.
Decreasing the number of playoff teams would only reduce the number of contenders. It would not necessarily make the regular season that much more exciting, but it would definitely make the playoffs much less exciting. Having 16 teams makes the playoffs harder to predict and rewards teams that peak at the right time.
Yes, the NBA regular season probably is less appealing to casual fans than that of some other sports, but the NBA playoffs are super exciting. Playoff basketball is just fantastic to watch. Decreasing the number of playoff teams and series would just be a really bad idea for the NBA’s watchability.

apb540ParticipantYea lame thread but I am just going to throw this out there: the Heat and Pacers should play a best-of-21 series and everyone else in the east can enter into the lottery lol

baggin13ParticipantI wish they would eliminate the confresnces when it comes to playoffs and just let the top 16 teams with the best records in. It would make the games even better.

BasterdInABasketParticipantWest is still fun to watch, there’s usually a good matchup each day of the week, maybe youre watching too many Orlando-Philly and Milwaukee-Clevleland matchups.
Anyways I would like to propose a new playoff format for this year.. Two team playoff in the East (best of 21), 14 teams in the West with the 14th seed going to the #3 team in the East (4 rounds, best of 5 each)0 - Posted on: Thu, 01/23/2014 - 12:49pm #864443
