After extensive talk from everyone, including myself, over the past year or so about how epic of a draft 2014 will be, it seems the buzz is dwindling a bit. One scout said this draft no longer ranks up there with greats. This was even taking place before the rumors of both Parker and Embiid staying. Both of them staying seems improbable but it clearly wouldn’t hurt either player. Even if the rumors are false, and the 2014 class does include Parker and Embiid…….. can the 2015 draft be even better than 2014?

I am really excited about the potentail of several prospects such as Turner, Alexander, Oubre, Mudiay, and Looney. Not particularly high on the top two freshman headed to Duke but I’ve been wrong plenty of times before. That draft could also include Karl Towns, Hollis-Jefferson, perhaps a few players from Kentucky, and guys I really like in Jabari Bird, Jabari Brown, Jake Layman, and Sam Dekker.

If Parker and Embiid stay it would surely put 2015 over the top, but even without them 2015 is also stacked. There is no one as athletic as Wiggins in 2015. There is no player who could affect the game more than the 7’0 in Embiid. There probably isn’t a polished scorer like Parker in 2015, but with the buzz quieting on 2014, I am now even more excited about next years draft. Yes, these current high school players will be playing at a higher level that will show more flaws in their games, similar to what Wiggins, Parker, and Randle are all experiencing. However, I have really soured on this current draft recently. It seems like most people on this site are extremely high on Parker and Randle but I have worried about them at the next level for quite some time now. I worry about Parker and his defensive abilities on the perimeter, which he will be playing at the next level. Even as a freshman Randle is able to bully guys in the post, that will change in the NBA. He also may be crafty around the rim but will struggle with length. We all know the concerns regarding Wiggins, his complacency and asking if he really wants to be great. Then there is Embiid, who you can’t really say a bad word at this point except only playing for a few years and being raw.

Whatever the case may be, the future looks bright for basketball. (2016 – Rabb and Newman!)

I disagree. There are some intriguing prospects in 2015, but even without Embiid and Parker there is Wiggins, Smart, Randle, Exum (probably), Gordon, Lavine, Young, Vonleh and etc. This is a very deep draft and I would not be surprised if down the road a guy who has not been getting much attention becomes one of the stars from this draft. Despite the reports, I highly doubt Embiid and Parker would stay unless their draft stocks plummet for some reason, or if Duke does poorly in March Madness. Out of the top guys, the only one who should stay IMO is Wiggins, but I doubt he will. As much as Randle gets picked on he is still a very skilled, athletic PF, and even though his size is limiting his vertical athleticism makes up for it somewhat. Parker on the other hand is a decent defender, but teams want him for his offensive versatility, so as long as he stays decent defensively his stock should stay where it is.

Okafor is a stud brotha. He’s like a bigger, stronger version of Jared Sullinger but more advanced post game wise and more athletic. 2015 will be stacked at the top too, though I could see Alexander and Oubre having a Wiggins like tenure at KU where the expectations may be a little too high. Also, unless Wisconsin loses in the Championship game, I don’t see Dekker coming back. This site totally underrates him. Stanley Johnson is also a stud and I think a sleeper could be the Tarczewski kid from Zona. He is huge and surprisingly athletic.

I watched a little of him in High School and he dominates effortlessly, assuming he makes the transition well, he should be a high guy on that 15 board. The only thing that worries me is he’s gonna become codependent on Tyus (his point guard) who’s been with him in AAU for years and might accompany him to college. I agree with this guy.

In regards to the overall draft, I think a lot of people are sleeping on Tyler Ennis, I think he’ll stay for his sophomore year and come out in the 15 class and be one of the best point guards if not the best. The rest of that class comes down to a lot of freshman living up to the hype, so I think its too early to really tell if the 15 class is gonna be any better or worse.

Pretty cool watching him play against high school kids when he’s 11.

There’s also a little girl with the last name Newman as well, who came up when I looked him up on YouTube. She’s 9 and breaking girls ankles in high school, pretty funny to watch.

It is that time of the season where we downgrade the upcoming draft and hype the next one.

For me, the only thing that would have helped 2015 was Okafor and the lack of a franchise centre for 2014, but with Embiid’s dramatic rise, I feel that 2014 has it over 2015 in every position.

Have you seen Okafor play. He’s a 10 year vet in a teenage body. If he can stay healthy, I think college will be a breeze for him. Who would guard him?

I think 2015 is going to be a hell of a draft. I wouldn’t say better than 2014, but I think it has the potential to be just as good.

    – I believe Jahlil Okafor is so good that he would be in the mix for the number 1 pick this year. I mean as a high schooler playing on the U19 USA team at the world championships, he shot 77% percent from the field and scored 10.8 ppg in only 14 minutes a game. He was the best player on that team which featured Marcus Smart, Aaron Gordon, and Montrezl Harrell, among others.

    – Emmanuel Mudiay is the next hyper athletic PG in a line of highly rated HS ballers to come along (John Wall, Derrick Rose, etc.). He’s got all the tools to excell in the NBA, and is not going to look out of place amongst the Westbrook’s, Wall’s, and Bledsoe’s of the league. I wouldn’t hesitate to take him over Marcus Smart this year.

    – Cliff Alexander has All-Star potential. Perfect tools for a power forward. Has a huge motor and is the best rebounder in the class. Got some Drummond in him, maybe not quite the athletic specimen, but has a better motor.

    – Some people think Myles Turner has the most potential in the class. I’m not sure what to make of him yet, but 7 foot rim protectors with intriguing offensive skills do not grow on trees.

    – Tyus Jones is the best distributor and leader to come along in a several years in my mind. It remains to be seen if his game can fully translate to the next level (I personally think it will), but he has the highest bball IQ in the class and makes the players around him better more than anyone else.

    – Very solid crop of wings; Kelly Oubre, Stanley Johnson, Justice Winslow, etc. I don’t see why these guys can’t be as good or better than Rodney Hood, James Young, Glenn Robinson III as prospects

    – Great thing about the 2015 class is that almost all the top guys are said to have great motors and they are all producing at a high level.

Obviously, a lot remains to be seen, but I honestly believe that 2015 can be right up there with the 2014 class as well.
