Seeing as how the Lakers are pretty much tanking this season, it gives a pretty rare oppurtunity to view which top prospect they’ll get in the upcoming draft. (Which is stacked) The Lakers have never been a team known to build through the draft but now they have a chance to grab a game changer at any postion. My question is, outside of the top three picks of Embiid, Parker and Wiggins, (since I don’t think the lakers will finish THAT bad), who do you see them picking up? Do they get a PG like Smart or Exum or draft a PF in randle? Personally, I’d want to see them drafting Exum to be the guard of the future for them. Thoughts?

Kendall Marshall and Kobe Bryant are starters

    Pau Gasol could continued

Steve Nash could retired or could be bench player

I think if they get a top 6-12, they must choose a pleyer with real potential will be a good

Zach LaVine: could be a very good sixth man, and being the remplacement of Kobe, the day he decide to retired

Aaron Gordon: it could be a typical player who starts playing 20 minutes in his first season, but then becomes the franchise player, this guy has potential to be the bests of this draft

James Young: for me it is a candidate for rookie of the year

Noah Vonleh: if they selects this guy, will not regret, is a worker and puts easily statistics

I hoope they do not choose any other player, but i’m sure that had just choosing McDermott, Cauley-stein, Payne or Montrezl, then faileth very frustated and disappointed, i’m not saying they are bad players, but not be players or around which to build

As drk said, they can’t be choosy right now.

Also, I don’t see Exum, Randle, or Smart dropping that far.  Lakers are going to pick in the 10-12 range, those guys will be gone in the first 8 picks.  Almost locks there.

With that said, I think they go with James Young.  He could be a very good player and probably has the most potential of the players going late lottery.

I know you’re a Laker fan, I am too. But 10-12 is really optimistic. I don’t expect they’ll keep playing this bad. If they did, they could get as low as 3rd (unlikely). I think 4-8 is realistic and I’d guess 6th.

Obviously, Embiid, Wiggins, Parker, or Randle would be a dream come true. But at 6th, Exum is a possibility. I’d like that. He could drive and make things happen… which they need badly.

The problem is, D’Anotini’s system requires guards and forwards to hit 3’s. Neither Exum nor Smart can do that yet. The question is: will they draft for the system? If they draft a PG for the system, Lavine is more of a fit.

They need more than one pick. They need someone at every spot. They should get to trading.

        Not a Laker fan

I do believe that when Kobe comes back, they’ll be decently good, good enough to not be an embarrassment.

I think that the highest the Lakers go is 8th.  I don’t think Kobe will let them be a bottom-6 team in the L

In my opinion, Exum is probably the ideal guy that may be available when they pick. After Embiid, Wiggins, and Parker, Exum probably has the best shot at being a "franchise" guy. Plus, his slick, scoring style would be a thriller in LA. If Kobe can teach him to become a killer, Exum could lead Showtime for the next decade.

The beauty of it for the Lakers this year is that since they aren’t locked in to anything in the future, they can really just take any player they want regardless of position.

I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that they get a top 3 pick either.  This is the lottery we’re talking about.  My personal big board right now is this (obviously subject to change):

    1. Embiid (just absurd potential, and if you’re going to completely rebuild a team, why not start with the center that can likely be an anchor?).

    2. Wiggins (chance to be a franchise kind of talent, and can be that first guy to give LA a real defensive presence to rebuild around).

    3. Exum (For me, he’s ahead of Jabari for now.  His first step and quickness for a guy his size is just amazing.  Not sure if he’ll settle in at PG or SG, but for now, he can play PG next to Kobe since they can both handle the ball, and then he can move to SG if they so desire when Kobe retires.  I think he’s the last of 3 prospects that can really be a franchise player).

    4. Jabari (Love his offensive potential, though I think it will take him a little longer than a lot of people expect to adjust to the NBA.  I think he’ll struggle early on to adjust to the athleticism, but I think he’s skilled enough to eventually figure it out and be a good scorer.  However, I don’t think he’ll ever be an average defender.  I think there’s a very good chance he ends up being a SF that produces like David Lee, meaning that he scores 20+ points, but also allows his man to score 20+ points.  Still, he’s a very good prospect.)

    5. Julius Randle (I think he has more NBA potential than people give him credit for.  He has the ability to develop into at least an average defender, and if he just spends the summer working on his right hand, that alone will make him a force in the paint.  I think he can be a great PF and could fight with Exum and Jabari for the 3rd and 4th picks).

    6. Aaron Gordon (It’s easy to downgrade him because he’s playing SF in college and most of us see him as a PF with his current skillset, but looking beyond that, this is just a really smart basketball player, an athletic freak, and an elite defender.  He seems to have far more lateral quickness when he’s playing defense than he does when he’s playing offense.  Regardless, I think he can be a Shawn Marion type of player, which would be a great value IMO.  Don’t think he’ll ever be THE guy you build around, but he can be one of those pieces to give you a starting point as you rebuild your team, and his potential to play both PF and SF gives you some flexibility in how you construct your team).

    7. Marcus Smart (This guy can give your team a new personality.  I don’t love him as a prospect, as I don’t think he’s a PG, and I’m not sure how good he’ll be as a SG, but you can’t deny this kid’s defense and heart.  I imagine he’ll be a great locker room guy and can be a leader for your team for years to come).

The Lakers will virtually be drafting with a clean slate, they have Kobe under contract for two more years but any draft prospect could play around him so I virtually think they just take BPA. With their current draft position being 10th I’d be interested to see them look at a PG like LaVine, Clarkson or Ennis within that draft range. Having Nash there next season possibly and Kobe alongside would be a great learning platform for any of them.
