TarHeelRavenParticipant8 points, 3-11 fg’s, 2-7 from 3, and 3 rebounds against UVA tonight. He’s averaging 10 and 5 on 30 percent shooting and 25 percent from 3 in ACC play, During the non-conference, he was an all-american and Wooden Award front-runner averaging 21 and 10 and 50 percent from three. Defenses are keyed to stopping him now and he’s not adjusting. He took so many step back threes tonight it was ridiculous. He’s Duke’s best low post scorer by a mile and is not taking it to the rack and using his strength. I knew his numbers would go down once ACC play started but I didn’t expect such a big dip. The media was all over Jabari when he was scoring 20 and playing lights out. They called him amazing, a franchise, changer, a franchise player, teams should tank to get him, this and that and it was ludicrous. They really did Jabari an injustice by saying those things. He’s a 19 year old kid and a very good player, but people needed to relax calling him, Wiggins and Parker great, great players right now. They are kids, are very good, will struggle, have ups and downs and be very good players in the league. None of them are KD or Lebron. Let them grow, make mistakes and be basketball players, college kids and stop hyping them up to be the next great superstar so early.

Sewok15ParticipantMeanwhile Wiggins has had 4 20 point games since conference play has begun. At halftime of a tie game tonight with 8th ranked Iowa St he has 11 points and 12 boards. It appears that Wiggins is progressing while Parker is regressing lately. I have been on the Wiggins for #1 train all along but could see why people would prefer the pure scoring ability and advanced skill level that Parker has to offer. I just think Wiggins has more potential and would compare his ceiling to that of a Paul George based on improving his ball handling, shooting and finishing.
Now Embiid is a different story and I could understand a team maybe taking a chance on him 1st overall with the potential he has being so new to the game. He might have the highest ceiling of anyone in the draft but I think his floor could be lower than the other two guys in the running for the first pick. Really it will be a splendid year to have a top 3 pick and you can get a great prospect in the top 7 without a doubt.

JM40ParticipantI’m starting to really see the allure in putting Embiid at #1. He has size and a defensive presence you can’t teach. Plus a great motor and excellent hands/footwork. Add on 15 points and 10 boards, he’d be a lock first pick in most drafts.

The media does this with ever overhyped freshmen, its nothing new. He’s stunk for a few games. Do you think GMs are really getting nervous? He’s 18 or 19 or whatever. He’s been cold, and his shot selection has been suspect. All of these guys have looked bad at times, none of them are this perfect second coming of LBJ prospect that some were thinking we were gonna get.0 - Posted on: Mon, 01/13/2014 - 5:21pm #862134

max23ParticipantThe thing is hes really not doing anything else but shooting crazy shots.I remember him being more active on the boards and at least trying to be A playmaker at times, now its rare. With defenses keying in on him you’d think he could create more baskets for his teammates…

TarHeelRavenParticipantParker really has very little play-making skills. Once he goes into scoring mode, he’s looking to drive and shoot and rarely if ever passes the ball out of his drives or once he gets it in the post. I have seen him make some nice passes, but he is not wired to set up his teammates.

B-ball fanParticipantParker seems like a better passer in the open court than in the half court. His court vision seems to be solid, but you are right that most of his go-to moves in the half court lead to shots.

B-ball fanParticipantHe feasted on transition opportunities early in the year and those were bound to decrease or get more challenging as the season went on. He made difficult shots early in the year, but he also had a lot of easyish opportunities at the rim. I also worry if fatigue could be an issue. He is matching up against a lot of big players for Duke and he certainly never had to bang down low so much before he got to Duke. He may be hitting a bit of a wall having been asked to do so much for Duke early in the season.

rileymcshea3ParticipantWiggins stat line tonight-17 points, 19 rebounds,3 assist,1 steal, 1 block.
He is already starting to tap into that crazy potential that everyone has seem to forget about.

clayj44ParticipantUps and downs are bound to happen. Conference play has just started and opposing teams actually have a lot of footage of him now and can prepare for him properly. I think he will make the adjustments needed to finish strong and it doesn’t really seem like he his hardwired to sulk over a poor stretch. Maybe it’s just because I am an optimistic person when it comes to watching young players develop

ibe12ParticipantI think Parker will be fine. Teams are just adjusting to what they’ve seen of him so far and now he has to adjust to that. Considering what all he has to do for Duke I’m sure he’ll have other down games but overall I think he’ll have more good games than bad. His offensive skills are way too good for that. It’s a shame he has to play so many minutes at PF instead of his more natural SF position.

tuck243ParticipantAlways worried about Duke and Jabari. Jabari will be fine, he’s just taking stupid shots right now and he has one of the best coaches on his side. Kid has massive talent and will be a future all-star. The media didn’t over hype him as he was doing exactly what he did in HS. If anything this stretch he’s going through is random and will be short lived. The what have you done for me lately stuff has got to stop.

4ngetnmoreDUKEParticipantI am a huge Duke fan and im really not worried about Jabari…one thing that does concern me is his weight. I dont really consider him the type of guy that plays to his max potential at 235 pounds. i think around 225 is better for him. But i also think his experience at duke is going to help him in the long run. He is playing the post alot and using alot of energy on bigger guys and playing power forwsrd and center is expanding his gnme and making him a total offensive package. Next year in the A hink he. will be a mismatch and a force from day the NB though i would like to see him drop 10-15lbs so he can move and do the things on the perimeter he is capable of doig. I think the Wiggins fans talking of whos better has hushed lol. To me Wiggins looks like he needs one more year of college to learn how to play gaurd. Considering he played mainly power forward in high school and aau. His frame

JoeWolf1I agree. He looks a little soft around the mid section. He’s not a bad athlete by any means, just average by NBA standards. I think if he leaned down that’d help him maximize the athletic ability he does have…plus he’s not gonna be playing the 4 in the NBA like he does at Duke, so carrying 235 lbs in the NBA would just be overkill.

HaleParticipantIt just doesn’t click with me why a guy with such high skill level and IQ has such poor shot selection. It didn’t hurt him as much early in the year because he was new, getting better looks and hitting everything. Now that he’s not catching fire and defenses have figured him out a little you see it glaing it’s head more. Still a great prospect but definitely something he needs to iron out badly.

4ngetnmoreDUKEParticipantLike I said alot of him not getting to the rim or hitting shots has to do w conditioning. if he was 10-15 pounds liggter i think he would get around guys alot more. In the next ten years i think jabari is the best pro. Not cause im a duke fan but because he has the skill versatility and professionalism. Embiid i agree could be great but in todays nba they want guys w that much hype to dominate right away if they dont theyre considered flops. There is no such thing as patience in the league. Wiggins will drown in the hype and the rest of these guys are a dime a dozen. Jabari has unique skillset and i think will be a superstar in this league. Being a laker fan also i hope we draft him he learns how to be a pro from kobe for two years and takes over for him.

JNixonParticipantJabari Parker would benefit from gaining lean muscle to be a better player/prospect. He isnt as good an athlete as he could be because he gets by on natural body strength. He has the frame to be at a solid playing weight if he gets stronger.

Ghost01ParticipantHe was much better today. Not just scoring, but the way he was playing on defense. Obviously he isn’t a great 1 v 1 defender, but he was forcing turnovers, and was super aggressive. He had confidence and his shots were falling. Of course there are still things he can improve on, but today was definitely a step up from how he had recently been playing.
