I don’t know how you don’t root for a guy after he talks about the Deng trade, what basketball means to him, and who he plays for. Good for him for taking the time to analyze his thoughts and emotions before saying something to the media:

"The trade definitely hurt," Noah said, adding that he had spoken to Deng about it. "But we got to move on. I feel confident in this team; we’re working really hard. A lot of people say this is a business and all that but this game is more than a business to me. I put everything I got into this. I feel like Lu was the same way so it was hard for me to digest. But that’s just my perspective, that’s just my side of the story. Everybody has a different job. I’m not mad at anybody. I’m not mad at the organization or anything like that. It’s just that my brother isn’t here anymore. So I just needed a little bit of time to digest that."

    . . .

"It’s hard to say because at the end of the day that’s my brother," he said. "And he’s not here anymore. That’s the way I see it. They see the game differently. They’re not out there on the court. They’re not out there on the plane. They don’t know how much Lu meant to me personally. But I’m not mad at anybody. At the end of the day, the games keep coming — we’re just going to go out there, give it everything we got. There’s no tanking. None of that. We’re going to go out there and give 150 percent. When people in Chicago say ‘Chicago Bulls,’ I want people in Chicago to be proud of that. Even if there’s four guys hurt, guys are hurt, no matter who’s out, we’re going to go out there and we’re going to give 150 percent, win or lose. I know people in this city are proud of that."

    . . .

"We just want to represent. We know this is a city that … even when I come to the game, I see the guy selling the newspapers on the streets. [It’s] cold outside — when he sees me driving by, he’s excited. You know what I mean? He’s excited. He’s like, ‘All right. Let’s go Bulls! Get it done tonight!’ I feel like I play for that guy. Like when I look at the top of the arena, and I look up top and I see teams call timeout, and I see the guy who looks this big and he’s up cheering up and down, jumping up and down, that’s the guy I play for. To me, that’s what this city represents. There’s a lot of hardship in here, a lot of adversity in this city, and I feel like when I play basketball I want people to be proud of their team."

my favorite Noah quotes include anything about Kevin Garnett.  Great interviewee and always speaks his mind and holds nothing back…

He is one of my top 10 favorite players for sure. I get why some people might not like him but if you love basketball then guys like Noah and KG deserve to be respected. They play the game (both ways) like its the most important thing in the world to them and leave it on the floor every night. I would never want D12 on my team if I could trade him straight up for Noah.

If basketball isn’t a hard fought, tough struggle of wills then you are doing it wrong.

If you get paid millons to play basketball and its easy then your overpaid. Guys like Noah, Deng, Rose, Lillard, Varejao, KG and Russell Westbrook are better to watch and appreciate to me. Nothing against the Harden’s, D12’s, Irving’s and Curry’s of the League but maybe its just me but I don’t value them as much.

This is the guy you HATE playing against but LOVE to have on your team.

I’m a huge Noah fan, except when he plays the Rockets.  The guy annoys everyone and gives every ounce of energy he has in every game.  Not to mention, he’s highly skilled on the defensive end and is a very good ball-handler and passer on the offensive end.

Noah will find his way on a title team before he retires.  The reason? Everybody wants someone like him on their team, and when money/ego isn’t a problem I can see him gladly playing 25 minutes per game to help a team win it.

And this coming from a guy who’s mother was a successful model and who’s father was a world class tennis player.  Jo could have done anything he wanted with himself, including living off his parents for his entire life, but he chose a different path and I say good for him.

I also find it ironic that they sent Deng to Cleveland given Jo’s histroy of ripping on the city of Cleveland.  From 2010:

Joakim Noah was asked by reporters if he regretted the disparaging remarks he’s made about the city of Cleveland after the Bulls dropped 0-2 in the series Monday night.

“Not at all,” Joakim Noah told reporters according to the Chicago Tribune. “Do you like it? Do you think it’s cool at all? I never heard anyone say I’m going to Cleveland on vacation . . . My whole life I’ve been booed. It’s OK. I have my friends, I don’t care.”

Well, looks like he’s going to be visiting Deng in Cleveland after they’re both bounced early in the playoffs.
