MikezParticipantWhen will Anthony Bennett start to see minutes?
Before Mike Brown had him behind Gee, Dellavedova, Clark, Thompson, Varejao, and Jack.
With the addition of Deng I don’t think that they will be giving him less minutes now (Averaging 10/g but take away 5-6 garbage minutes at the end of some blowouts and hes down to about 8/g) since he will be the first one off the bench to play behind Thompson(which is how its done now).
But the question lingers in my mind, when will Mike Brown realize that he needs to play Bennett for him to learn the pace of the game, or to get chemisty with his teammates, in is averaging 1.5 fouls per game in his limited minutes, most of them being illegal screens.
Also, his stats may not show it, but when he gets the ball facing the basket with more than 5 seconds on the shot clock, he looks pretty good, his footwork from the beginning of the season to now has shown a lot of improvement, the only thing that has to happen for him right now is his shot needs to start falling, his form looks good I just think he gets tense hoping he wont miss the shot, which probably leads to him missing the shot.
How do you think that Bennett will finish the season?
MPG:
PPG:
RPB:
FG%:I’ve got high hopes which probably won’t happen since Mike Brown is to rookies as hot is to cold.

TarHeelRavenParticipantI’m not the first person on here to criticize Anthony Bennett and I’m positive I wont be the last. For a team so young to be playing their number one overall pick 12 minutes a game, something is just not right in my opinion. Attitude? Work ethic? I think someone posted on here that they knew the coach of the Canadian Junior National Team and Bennett was the only guy he had negative things about and how he had terrible work ethic. I don’t know how much truth there is to that, but it just makes you wonder about him. If I was a Cavs fan, I’d be extremely worried. Of course he’s still young and there is plenty of time to improve, but his terrible start is not a welcome sign for his time in Cleveland.

bloodshyParticipantThe Jazz don’t have any #1 picks on thier roster, but we’ve now watched for 2.5 years as Enes Kanter (#3) and Alec Burks (late lotto) have received sparse minutes. Favors averaged less than 20 mpg for his first two seasons and only 23 mpg during his third season.
When your team is young, talented, and far from being a contender, sacrificing development for the sake of a few wins now makes no sense in my mind. The Jazz have underplayed their lotto picks over the last several seasons and it has hurt development. Cavs seem to be doing the same right now w/Bennett. Bad choice.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantBut it has led Favors into only getting 10 to 11 million a season instead of 15 to 18. Underplaying guys helps surpress there unrestricted free agent leverage. A healthy Granger last year would have led to George getting the four year soft max Hibbert got instead of the super max 5 year 80-90 deal. That’s the extra 2 to 4 million Lance needs a year. Kanter might actually sign a 4 year 24 million dollar deal because they surpressed his value. If Bledsoe stayed on the Clippers they would have made him a 8 million a year guy instead of the 15 million a year guy he is going to be this summer. Its bad for players but winning is better to watch. If you want minutes then earn them.

PhogifyParticipantAnthony Bennett isn’t your usually number one overall pick, he is a number one pick that could’ve fallen out of the top 10 if the Cavs didn’t pick him AND it was considered a weak draft (although it isn’t looking all that weak now).

QuickPostCParticipantHe will start to get minutes when he goes down to the D-League where he belongs right now. He is overweight, unprepared for the speed of the NBA, shoots to many 3s, thinks he is a SF…..
…..and has a big butt.

tuck243Participanthe should go to the D-League. Never should your #1 Pick (or even top 3) need to go the D-League because he provides absolutely nothing for your team. Until this year with Anthony Bennett.. Send him there and hopefully he’ll get his confindence (and jumper) back by being the man on the team again. I can’t see him bouncing back after seeing 5 minutes a game on a bad team. Overrated is an understatement so far for him.

TheArtistPaysthePriceParticipantThis Deng move will cut his minutes but Alozo Gee is playing even poorer than he used to. Bennett will get those minutes.
When he makes some shots, thats when he will get more minutes. He has been pretty good defensively which is a real suprise. How is he better at being a PnR defender than a PnR offensive player? Who woulda predicted that?
When he releases his jumper on the way up instead of on the way down he will get more minutes. Other than that he has great mechanics. Beal struggled with his shot in college and early in the pro’s despite sound mechanics and figured it out. He is a pure shooter and it will come eventually.

drk3351ParticipantWhen he starts performing like a first round pick. You guys have to realize Bennett was just terribly overrated. Yes Im going to be negged, but understand what i’m saying.
– Undersized
– Not a great post game (could bully people at UNLV)
– Injury issues
– Not a great defender
– Good not great shooter

AmiableBaller34ParticipantSometimes I wonder if some of these guys actually watch the Cavs play…While Bennett wasn’t the best first round pick, he’s not exactly void of talent either, and sure as hell isn’t as bad as a lot of people are making him out to be. His biggest hindrance, like others have said, is his weight and conditioning. Once he gets used to his body, and can stay on the court for more than a few plays without getting winded, than he will get more time. He has talent, he just needs to work on the other aspects of being aNBA player.

He has had his weight back down to 240 for at least 2 weeks and has been getting 11-19 minutes for a while(Dec 23rd), other than the 1 game he was sick(ATL).
95 minutes in those 8 games, when you take out Atl(sick 5min) and Brooklyn where he got only 8minutes, due to matchup, he has gone 80 minutes in his other 6games since the weight loss.
In those 6 he is averaging 4.5pts and 3rebounds in 13.5minutes and I think he will continue and probably improve some on that as Deng’s primary backup.

Jester87ParticipantI don’t know, while obviously Cleveland wasn’t the best place, the biggest problems for him have been the fact that he’s not been able to work this summer because of his injury, the bad shape he came in, the consequent lack of conditioning (the fact that they found out he suffers from asthma makes things even worse). Those things would’ve been the same anywhere else.
