Let me preface this by saying I dont actually think this would happen, but….

Should the Bulls trade Derrick Rose? He is obviously having a hard time staying healthy, and has a max contract for a long time. It might be smarter in the long run to cut bait with D-Rose if they could get a player like Greg Monroe (maybe toss Villanueva, etc. to make the money work)…

I know it seems crazy but the situation hits home here with the whole RG3 saga going on. If i were the Bulls, i would NOT trade Rose, but i might think about re-building, and that means trading anybody on the team (i would keep Butler, Snell, Teague, etc.) and clearing serious cap space for the Melo/Lebron campaign. They could get a lot for Noah, Deng, Gibson, and maybe Boozer (or just amnesty him).

    Just some food for thought.

There is no way the Bulls would ever trade Rose.  Hometown guy, humble, great kid, perfect guy to build your franchise around.  He’s had terrible luck with the injury bug.  I don’t know if he comes back with the same explosiveness, but he will still be a really good player and a top 5 PG if he returns to 100 percent.   They really need to amnesty Boozer.  He’s a horrible defender on a defensive team with a defenseive-mided coach.  I think Deng needs to go also.  Keep Noah, Gibson and Butler.  Cap room needs to be cleared for the 2014 free agent class.  Chicago should be a prime destination for free agents, big market, great city, and a really really good coach.

Even if Drose has been injured, i’m not trading a 25 year old star for a chance, not even a guarantee for a max player in the 2014 class, especially if its not lebron. Maybe Carmelo would be a good fit next to Drose which I have some concerns with anyways, I don’t see why you would trade for a 30 year old Carmelo over a 25 year old Rose as in my mind at least.

On the other hand, the Bulls definitely need to rebuild. No matter how strong Derrick Rose comes back, a core of DRose+Deng+Noah are not beating Lebron+Wade+Bosh or George+Hibbert+West in a playoff series. The lack of a capable second option was clear in 2011 and it is still clear in 2013.

You guys are all looking at this wrong.  To this date the Bulls are 3-11 without Derrick Rose.  This isn’t the same team as last year with Nate Robinson and Marko Bellinelli that could possibly win a round in the playoffs let alone even make the playoffs. If I were the GM I’d blow up the whole thing. Derrick Rose sitting the season out may be a good thing if the Bulls decided to "tank".

Personally my first move would be to move Deng. The Bulls can acquire some pretty good assets for him because he has tremendous value as a two way player and if he were to go to the right team and situation he can possibly push a contending team over the hump. Bulls can get some young talent and or draft picks which should better off their future.  Secondly, I’d amnesty Boozer.  He brings very little value to a defensive minded team and clearing up the books to sign a major free agent in 2014 has to be enticing for the team. Who wouldn’t want to play in Chicago? Big market, beautiful city, storied franchise what more could you want. They have huge chance to get a big free agent next year.  Thirdly, I’d start Teague.  This kid has some talent, I feel they should throw him in the fire let him develop and gain some confidence should Derrick Rose not come back the same explosive player we all know him to be they have a PG in Teague behind him who can provide good minutes.  They could even play together some a-la the Phoenix Suns, (not permanetly because I’m not a fan of the small backcourt but occasionally depending on flow of the game and matchups) you never know the way the NBA is going. And lastly, I’d keep Noah, Butler, Snell and Gibson and everybody else on the team is replaceable.  These four guys are great pieces in my opinion, that like to play defense which I love.

Now with that being said, moving Deng for assets, amnestying Boozer and starting Teague should put them in perfect position to "tank" and be "bad" this year and get a high lotter pick.  Now if the draft balls fall into place this could possibly put them in a position to draft the hometown kid Jabari Parker who also went to Simeon like Derrick Rose.  How awesome would it be to have to homegrown talents as the centerpieces of your franchise.  And with amnestying Boozer they could possibly have the cap to add another max free agent next summer.  If your LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, Chris Bosh etc, your telling me Chicago doesn’t seem entriguing? Hypothetically speaking, Derrick Rose, Jabari Parker (or another high lottery pick), Joakim Noah, Butler, Snell and Teague isn’t a great core? If I’m one of those guys for sure I’m considering that for sure. Just some food for thought.

Is there a team that would trade for the contract that Rose has given his injury concerns (played in just 49 games the past 3 seasons)? If there is a team that would trade for him you certaintly won’t be getting value for him. That trade just isn’t happening.

Everyone who is saying the Bulls should tank, well, they are. Have you watched them play? It is the non-tank, tank. Every game is extremely ugly and tough to watch. They just can’t score and struggle to reach 80 on a nightly basis. One poster already mentioned the 3-11 record without Rose and that would be 2-12 if it weren’t for a lucky bank shot 3-pointer by Dunleavy to beat the worst team in the league Milwaukee, whom they had already lost to early in the week. Teague is downright brutal. Noah finally called out Boozer to the media the other night referring to – guys who don’t want to bring it every night, play defense, take bad shots, and don’t play team ball. We all know who he was talking about and he apologized the next night. Their regular league leading team defense isn’t the same. The effort on nightly basis isn’t there. They are switching on screens which I have never seen before. And Boozer’s effort and rotations have been worse than ever. Hinrich inevitably is hurt already and the rest of the team’s injury history along with Thib’s mentality should lead to even more DNP’s. Worst of all, Derrick’s injury killed the mental state of this team. They know they have no chance, and they know that Derrick can no longer lead them to the title. They also know changes are coming. This team is falling apart, and tanking without tanking.

It is still so early and all the bad teams are so close to one another it is difficult to say just what will happen. At worst the Bulls will have two picks in the top 17 of an epic draft. If they continue their recent play, I am hoping for Dante Exum if it is top 6, and Noah Vonleh if top 10. Also wanting Jabari Bird with that Bobcats pick.
