Moon RiverParticipantI read this morning that there was a "wild card" team in the mix for Asik, but would not have guessed it was Portland. Wish I knew who they would ship to Houston.

Tongue-Out-Like-23ParticipantIf they truly are a part of the trade, it’s most likely a 3-team trade. They’d probably ship someone to Cleveland, Varejao to Houston and Asik to Portland.
Something like that. Not sure why Portland would change anything though.

UnbiasedObserverParticipantI don’t see the Blazers pulling off a deal of this caliber. They have a league best 22 wins. And have developed great chemistry. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it

OldSkoolBasketballParticipantI rather have Varejao than Asik. Asik is superior defender compared to Lopez but he can’t spread the floor.

theEDGEParticipantBlazers already stated they don’t need Asik.
also I don’t know why Cavs want Asik with Bynum there.

Moon RiverParticipantYahoo (Wojo) is reporting the Celtics are now "gaining traction" for Asik (via twitter).
Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a 1st being discussed.

HitsterParticipantAsik would be a nice fit for Boston and if they can hang onto all their good young players then it’s a good deal for them. If Houston were hoping for a Paul Millsap type PF then Brandon Bass is a decent choice and Courtney Lee gives nice scoring from the bench enabling Harden to watch his minutes and also having played for Houston before will be familar with a lot of the staff.
Daryl Morey would also get a first round pick of some description which would be a useful trading bait or chance to trade up a future draft.
It’s a pity that Crash Wallace wasn’t a year or two younger as he’d have been a natural trade for Asik but I doubt that Houston would want to take on his longer contract at this moment.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI think Asik is a very good defender/rebounder and would be a great pickup, but I don’t see why anybody would want him considering his salary situation. I wouldn’t bale Morey out of that bad deal.

TallmanNYCParticipantBecause it isn’t a bad deal. He is starting level Center with only two years of guaranteed money left. This is a league that recently signed Kwame Brown to two years and $20 million or something insane like that. The last year is big, but it isn’t max and he is a good starter, so no big deal. Also that is an expiring contract.

ericw2013ParticipantPerhaps if Portland gives Robin Lopez and CJ Mc with a conditional 1st…
Asik has a bad contract but it wont hit the sallary cap that much, and if you are in the top 5 contending teams you can afford to take a high salary (of course, if you think that he will help you win the Championship).

KHAM83ParticipantI was just about to post that they should consider dealing McCollum. They have enough backcourt scoring, both starters and bench, and upgrading the center position is the only thing that’ll make them true title contenders. Lopez is the one player that’s over achieving imo, and I don’t see him being the defensive anchor on a championship team. I think he’ll be more valuable coming off the bench.
Portland gets Asik
Philly gets McCollum, Freeland, Claver
Houston gets Thad Young
Asik starting and Lopez off the bench. Ask does everything Lopez does but better. This makes them true title contenders.
Philly gets another young prospect in McCollum, who is also missing time, a plus for their wanting to tank. McCollum is a great shooter and lack of size is complimented by MCW.
Houston gets a stretch 4 to put next to Howard. Not their first or second choice, but he’s better than everyone Houston currently has.

ericw2013ParticipantI have read that Houston is not interested in Thad Young… they would want more assets (like picks).

AmiableBaller34ParticipantI don’t know if I heard this correctly, but during the Celtics game that’s going on right now they just reported that the Celtics and Rockets have agreed to trade Asik for Lee, Bass, and a first round pick. They reported that it wasn’t 100%, because any deal can break down at the last minute, but they seemed pretty confident that it was a done deal, and today was the last day Lee/Bass would be on the Celtics.

ericw2013ParticipantGood trade for the Celtics… Asik will help them long term. the only concerns… your starting PG and C will shoot less than 60% for the line.
Do you know which 1st rnd will they give the Rockets? Is it their own or one of the Clips/Brooklin?

AmiableBaller34ParticipantCSNNE just posted this a while ago, and it’s what I saw last night:
"When asked if the deal would get done, Blakley said he thought so, but it might not include Lee, who told Blakely it was his understanding he wouldn’t be in a deal if a third team wasn’t involved. Trade talks appear to be only between Houston and Boston.
Mannix said he had received texts from NBA sources that told him the trade will happen."So take it for what it is I guess. The Celtics organization is acting like it’s a done deal; Ainge said he’s already talked to some players agents, but wouldn’t say who. Blakely, a Celtics reporter (A terrible one at that), said they are just trying to figure out the picks that will be sent out. I just hope it’s not a BRK pick…

joecheck88ParticipantI’m not sold on Thad Young making Houston better. Terrance Jones has been playing well. A bit inconsistent but he’s started like 15 games. He’s getting better and stretches the floor. I value him more than I do Thad Young. I’m with ericw. They’re going to dump Asik for a 1st of they can. They don’t really need a stretch 4 because Jones is good. I’d want a legit PG for Asik because Beverly isn’t a starter and Lin is good off the bench. If Cleveland really wants him give me Jarrett Jack. Houston needs a good PG and upgrades at backup 3.4.

TallmanNYCParticipantI guess this is why Asik is off the market. The Rockets need to kiss Asik’s butt and get him to play hard for 15 minutes a night when Howard isn’t playing. If a good trade comes, then it comes. But don’t just give this guy away unless it is someone who is actually going to add wins.
