 He was pretty similar to Rudy Gobert at the time when he was going into the league. Was overhyped prior to being drafted because of his size and length like Gobert, then ate himself out of the league at a young age. Glad to see he’s getting another chance with his NBA career.

Ajinca was regarded as a finesse big when he first came into the NBA and almost every team was trying to find the next Dirk Nowitzki or Pau Gasol. He bounced around teams for a few years and actually had his spell with his last NBA team – the Raptors.

I agree with Dizzle that hopefully he has stopped trying to be something he isn’t and will concentrate on using his size to try and be a servicable NBA C. He is still only 25 so it’s worth him giving the NBA another shot.

 I’ve my eye on him since the summer and he is looking good. He can be a effective defensive big from bench for Pelicans.

 I’m glad he is getting a second chance, he was an intrigueing big man. If his maturation is true then he should have no problem keeping a spot in the league this time around.

The problem with taking 18-year old projects, like Ajinca, is that even if you think he will be a player by the time he is 25, you have to get him to that point. Given how well he has done in France the past couple years, it will be interesting to see how he fares this time.

Very valid point as always by Both Teams Played Hard, big men in particular are often projects and when a team drafts them they know they will need time. Sometimes as is the case with Andre Drummond a team gets lucky and the prospect becomes a legit improving NBA starter in only his 2nd year, a player like Steve Adams is also very much a project even though he is seeing good rotation minutes already in OKC’s frontcourt.

Another thing is that guys like Adams, Drummond and DMC came to the NBA with NBA ready bodies or the bulk to be easily transformed. Guys like Ajinca and Brandan Wright were basically tall skinny guys who needed to add bulk if they wanted to become inside players.

Due to injuries and getting bounced around teams it has taken Brandan Wright a good 5 years to finally look something like an NBA player, Ajinca who is a similar age is probably in the same boat but he had to continue his development abroad.
