hbomb3300ParticipantI’m a big Thunder fan so I just wanted to open up a discussion on their current state and standing in the NBA. Here are a couple of my opinions:
1. They play Fisher TOO much. There is too much young talent on this team to take away minutes from them for an over the hill veteran. I like Fisher on the team as a mentor and decent bench option but the Thunder need their young players to mature to have any chance at competing for a title now and in the future.
2. Perry Jones is getting no time! It seems like after he finally had a solid game, getting 10 points off the bench, Brooks has completely shut him down. I don’t understand it… he has a chance to be a very solid player for them.
3. Lamb is finally starting to gain confidence and be the player I expect him to be. Hopefully he continues to improve and Brooks gives him a little more minutes.

AmiableBaller34ParticipantHonestly, this thread will probably turn into another "Should have kept James Harden" thread, but I hope not, so I’ll avoid that territory all together. I think the only problem with the Thunder are their coaching. They have players, players that could easily fit into a good system, but they don’t have a system in place to let these guys excell. The Thunder’s entire game plan seems to be keeping the game close until the final minutes or so, then no one but Westbrook or Durant gets a touch.
I love the Thunder, and have been following them since that first year in Seatle (I kind of think a lot of people have "grown up" with this Thunder team too, not just me). I always thought that they would go through the usual sequense of events that most championship teams go through.
1. Get good, young, exciting players.
2. Go to the playoffs and lose.
3. Get back, create expectations and underpreform, and then get rid of the coach who taught them the fundementals, and hire a better coach.
4. Finaly get over the hump, and win it all.
That formula is a little more obvious in baseball than basketball, but it’s the same mistake the Cavs teams made with LeBron when they should have fired Mike Brown way before they did. You can only go so far with certain coaches, and I feel like this is the case with OKC. You can no longer win in the NBA playing isolation basketball, and someone needs to let Scott Brooks know this. They have stars, they have the token "Three and D" guy, they have a good back up point guard, and they have legit size and length. The only thing they don’t have is a good system. Which makes me sad, because I thought I was going to be a witness to a Thunder dynasty.

hbomb3300ParticipantBrooks is starting to wear on me… I don’t like a lot of his substitution decisions and the offense is extremely predictable. He just got a huge, new contract so I doubt he is going anywhere anytime soon.

Its clear Scotty Brooks was the "young coach who gets hired to coach a really bad team and does well", but he doesn’t really seem to be a good coach. His X’s and O’s are Del Negro level. No ball movement, no sets, really nothing. He also seems to be a guy that doesn’t understand metrics that playing guys like Perkins and Fisher are not helping your team, but he does it anyway.
Not trying to pile on Brooks, but he isn’t a very good coach, and its definitely showing now.

Brooks hasn’t really improved the offense, just durant and westbrook are that good and they keep getting better. They need to be able to have some kind of half court offense to lean on when they need it and they dont. I would fire brooks, but they probably wont. I think they should have gone for doc rivers or some other experienced coach, maybe george Karl, I dont know who else is out there.
